What I love about the Switch is that there are so many RPGs on it that you could make an entirely new list of equally worthy omissions. Just an embarrassment of riches on this system.
The Switch became my go-to RPG machine the second I realized I can just PAUSE AND EXIT TO MENU regardless if I’m in the middle of a 30 minutes long unskippable cutscene, dialogue sequence, 12 stage boss battle or any other bullcrap that doesn’t let me save and exit. Going to sleep has never been so easy!
Wait ... what performance issues does D3 have on Switch? In my experience, it's basically the definition of a perfect port. I've never noticed any slowdown. Maybe something happens on insanely high torment levels that I'm unaware of, though ...?
Dragon Quest 11 on switch has one major flaw - I really think that the added stories for each individual character halfway through the game KILLS the pace. I felt like the game never recovered after that, which is a shame because I loved the first half
Zelda isn't exactly an "RPG" it's an Action-Adventure series so ...least to me, it feel weird having Zelda in a list like this anyway, you sure did miss some, like: Miitopia Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Sparks of Hope The World ends with You the rest of the mainline Pokémon games (Scarlet and Violet, Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, Sword and Shield, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX) Sea of Stars Hogwarts Legacy (it's listed as an: Action RPG, so I guess you could count it, but I'm mentioning it anyway) and even tho they're cloud versions, the entire Kingdom Hearts series is also on Switch (...well almost, if you count the mobile games)
Just finished Witcher 3 and both DLC. What an amazing game. CDPR really knows how to craft a story. Didn't expect to get so drawn in or feel the feels. I was genuinely sad when I was done. Sure I can play multiple times but I'll never get to experience it for the first time again.
Criminal indeed. I mean I somewhat understand not including trails because playing trails only on switch would be like watching a view episodes from a series without the rest (allthough crossbell arc is pretty complete on switch and extremely awesome) but not including Ys especially Ys 8 is very sad bordering on ignorance. Edit and that while calling a hidden progression action adventure like the new zelda rpgs no less 🤷🏼♂️
Kingdom Hearts doesn't count because is only on the cloud, shitty port, sadly we won't get a actually copy of the game, no digital nor physical, so for me doesn't count
Please play Octopath Traveler 2 if you haven't and like or are interested in JPRGs, the gameplay, story, graphics, and characters are incredible, and the music is my personal favorite of all time. Top 3 all time game for me for sure.
Etrian odyssey is a personal favorite series of mine. Oh sure I'll highly recommend the xeno series first, but if you want an rpg with a bigger focus on your party synergy through a class system that's pretty customizable. It's the one for you. Let's just say you can create a healer the focuses more on paralysis and poison in certain entries of the series.
Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster edition has FF 1-6, which makes choosing easy! It did cost about 100 dollars though, but not bad for 6 games on one cartridge.
For the Xenoblade games I highly recommend playing them in order. I was first introduced to the series with Xenoblade 2 and absolutely loved it to the point it is top 3 all time RPGs for me. Then the original Xenoblade was released and I found myself kind of rushing through it to see if I would find a link between the stories at the end instead of taking my time and enjoying it. Then Xenoblade 3 is a masterpiece as well. I hope to one day go back and play them all again. They literally check all the boxes for top tier JRPGs: incredible music, great combat, ample things to do outside of main story, etc. If you are anything like me plan for a minimum of 100 hours for each game. I think I logged almost 200 in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 but that included the prequel time (Torna, the Golden Country, which was also amazing)
I think the switch has many amazing rpgs some of my favorites are octopath traveler 2, paper Mario thousand year door, xenoblade chronicles remastered, xenoblade chronicles 3, but my personal favorite is dragon quest 11 that games just amazing in every way. But xenoblade chronicles remastered is definitely a close contender for my favorite. But dragon quest 11 definitely wins for me. Especially because of the ability to switch to a classic snes graphics mode.
@@mamaluigi429 Well I can try. Fuga Melodies of Steel is a 20 houer long turn based JRPG about a groupe of anthropomothic animal children that go on a quest to save there families. They live inside a giant ancient mysterious powerful fortress like Tank. Its a bit like Howls Moving castle but based on technology instead of magic. The turn based combat is really good. In my opinion its even better then the combat of Persona 5 and Final Fantasy X. Its not that hard or complicated but I need to keep my head in the game at all times or things will go south fast. Almost no fight feels like mindless filler. Its very engaging. The music is amazing. The boss theme "Flower on the Trails" is my favorite piece of Videogame music. I was lukewarm towards the children of the Taranis at first but they grew on me more and more and more and now they are my second favorite protagonist groupe in fiction. The game is super linear with almost no exploration, no sidequests and no optional super bosses. Fuga is available on PC and most modern consoles like Switch, PS4, PS5 and so on. Fuga has a free demo which is just straight up the first 3 chapters of the game. I highly recommend that demo. It also has a direct sequel: "Fuga Melodies of Steel 2" but I advice against playing the second game before the first game unless you do not care about the story and characters.
Disco Elysium brought me to tears, laughter, provoked deep thought and reflection more than any other video game has, and probably ever will. I encourage anyone over the age of 18 to play it.
The Switch has a pretty good Library of JRPGs, sadly you missed a couple of real bangers with the Legend of Heroes: Trails from Nihon Falcom, Ys from Falcom, Aegis Rim from Vanillaware, all of the tactics games...
My backlog is begging for mercy. Great video with the bite sized previews. Unfortunately for me, most of these games are already in my backlog. My toes curl as i try and choose one to focus on😂
For someone wondering where is Persona 3, although the portable version can be played on the Switch, the remake reload is saved for the Switch 2, that was leaked by Midori, I know Midori has lied about a lot, but her leaks of Persona were real
As some have mentioned here, Zelda games, except for Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, none of them are RPGs. They are adventure games with the Switch games being open world adventure. They are not what is considered typical RPG game play and elements.
Also you have classics like EarthBound, Golden Sun and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga on NSO. Monster Hunter Stories 2 and Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince are also great creature-collecting RPGs.
This just covers like as mostly 15% or perhaps just 10%) of the whole RPG library of 'Switch, and it will still getting a lot of new RPG's in the upcoming years. What a difference from Wii U which got less than 10 (or even less than 5?) retail released RPG's. I hope that Nintendo's next console continues to getting new HD-2D games and that it will get more 3rd party exclusives if it's close to PS4's power.

I like how the octopath travler sound track was used to close out the list...really lets you know which is best 😌
Wait ... what performance issues does D3 have on Switch? In my experience, it's basically the definition of a perfect port. I've never noticed any slowdown. Maybe something happens on insanely high torment levels that I'm unaware of, though ...?
Good, I have pretty much all of these in the backlog collection. Hoping for an Earthbound Anniversary Edition next year! Please, Nintendo!
Do you hate fire emblem or triangle strategy that much?
More of a tactical RPG, but I think on Zion's list would be Unicorn Overlord.
Dragon Quest 11 on switch has one major flaw - I really think that the added stories for each individual character halfway through the game KILLS the pace. I felt like the game never recovered after that, which is a shame because I loved the first half
That is exactly where I dumped my playthrough 💀
@@rubberducky5383same
@@rubberducky5383Try it again. Once you overcome that annoying section the rest gets soo much better.
Surprised I didn’t see fire emblem in this list or is it categorized differently in another video?
Zelda isn't exactly an "RPG" it's an Action-Adventure series
so ...least to me, it feel weird having Zelda in a list like this
anyway, you sure did miss some, like:
Miitopia
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Sparks of Hope
The World ends with You
the rest of the mainline Pokémon games (Scarlet and Violet, Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, Sword and Shield, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX)
Sea of Stars
Hogwarts Legacy (it's listed as an: Action RPG, so I guess you could count it, but I'm mentioning it anyway)
and even tho they're cloud versions, the entire Kingdom Hearts series is also on Switch (...well almost, if you count the mobile games)
Cry about adding zelda then list hogwarts as an rpg 💀
Why dont they have the final fantasy gamcube game whats it called again crystal chronicles
Trails to azure. Tales of vesperia. Omori. Wolfstride. Tactics ogre. 13 sentinels aegis rim. Eastward. DQ 3. Romancing saga 2. KOTOR 1 & 2.
I wish one of these lists covered Labyrinth of Refrain. It is truly my favorite RPG of the last decade
Wait, no Monster Hunter Stories? :c
What game is the blue hair girl in the thumbnail from?
Just finished Witcher 3 and both DLC. What an amazing game. CDPR really knows how to craft a story. Didn't expect to get so drawn in or feel the feels. I was genuinely sad when I was done. Sure I can play multiple times but I'll never get to experience it for the first time again.
"¡Y ahora tenemos Monster Hunter RIse!" I somehow loved that line so much I got distracted the whole segment.
As ALWAYS these people forget about the YS games. 8 and 9 specifically are better than 90% of the games on this list
and Trails 🥲
Criminal indeed. I mean I somewhat understand not including trails because playing trails only on switch would be like watching a view episodes from a series without the rest (allthough crossbell arc is pretty complete on switch and extremely awesome) but not including Ys especially Ys 8 is very sad bordering on ignorance.
Edit and that while calling a hidden progression action adventure like the new zelda rpgs no less 🤷🏼♂️
Not on Switch they aren't.
@fabriciofla8019 performance doesn't mean the game is bad, Witcher 3 looks like azz on Switch and they included it
I am not sure if persona 5 royal footage is from switch itself because on switch it looks much more blurry
No Fire Emblem, Triangle Strategy, or Kingdom Hearts? 👀
I'm actually surprised Fire Emblem wasn't mentioned.
One I was expecting was Unicorn Overlord.
Kingdom Hearts doesn't count because is only on the cloud, shitty port, sadly we won't get a actually copy of the game, no digital nor physical, so for me doesn't count
Any other games like Zelda by any chance sane kinda style ?
Good list but how is LOZ an RPG?
Also, no Dragon Quest 3??
Please play Octopath Traveler 2 if you haven't and like or are interested in JPRGs, the gameplay, story, graphics, and characters are incredible, and the music is my personal favorite of all time. Top 3 all time game for me for sure.
What about YS? Do you guys at Nintendo Life cosider them Best RPGs on Switch as well? I’m hesitating between Nier , Star Ocean and YS VIII
Ys VIII is definitely up there with these games and worth playing
What about YS 8 and 9? loved thoses ones
As always, amazing content. ❤
Can’t stop playing Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Disco Elysium is so much fun on my Switch.
Is it just functionally impossible to not mention Persona 5 when discussing Shin Megami Tensei?
Normies 😂
Humans thrive on comparison. Chances are, people will be more familiar with Persona, so comparing them helps newcomers have a frame of reference.
FE 3 Houses is my favorite on the system. Mario + Rabbids 1&2 are both fantastic.
Sea of stars became one of my favorite games. So good
Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster edition has FF 1-6, which makes choosing easy! It did cost about 100 dollars though, but not bad for 6 games on one cartridge.
Unicorn Overlord, FE: Three Houses, Langrisser 1&2: Are we a joke to you?
It would be nice if there were time stamps for games. It’s cumbersome to ff through haha
My favorite JRPG and favorite Videogame in general is pretty small and unkown but my personal number 1 is "Fuga Melodies of Steel". I adore this game.
can you make a quick review?
The Switch has a pretty good Library of JRPGs, sadly you missed a couple of real bangers with the Legend of Heroes: Trails from Nihon Falcom, Ys from Falcom, Aegis Rim from Vanillaware, all of the tactics games...
nice list, have all of em on my pc.
No Fire Emblem and Atelier games? Glaring omissions. Still, good video, I'd like to try quite a few of the ones mentioned here.
What about Torchlight 2? That's one of my favorites! ❤
Good job!
i think South park stick of truth are pretty underrated on switch
Golf story was awesome, loved that game. They also have one called sports story but ive heard mixed reviews on it.
For Tactical RPG fans, Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Unicorn Overlord are superb games.
My backlog is begging for mercy. Great video with the bite sized previews. Unfortunately for me, most of these games are already in my backlog. My toes curl as i try and choose one to focus on😂
Start with the better ones.
@@mamaluigi429 Luigi, I’m trying
I just bought Trails Through Daybreak so I hope that’s good
You missed CrossCode. I don't understand why it is so overlooked, it's just great
Sadly I saw no YS and no Trails from zero or Trails of cold steel and no Valkyria chronicles 4.
For someone wondering where is Persona 3, although the portable version can be played on the Switch, the remake reload is saved for the Switch 2, that was leaked by Midori, I know Midori has lied about a lot, but her leaks of Persona were real
portable is better than remake.
Did you just use Persona 5 music while introducing SMT 5 Vengeance?
Oh Golf Story. Everybody usually forgets about that game.
thank you very much!!
Yay! So happy whenever we get a Felix video
Awesome list

You should check out Moon: Remix RPG Adventure. It was an influence for Undertale.
Ys 8 Lacrimosa of Dana, immortals Fenyx Rising Harvestella, Trials of Mana are also all great action RPGs!
Botw and totk are Rpgs??
I would say no. That was my first thought too.
I would put them in the adventure category.
@@sparkypack exactly.
If i dont see all 3 xenos on switch i will riot
