  • Hi folks,
    in this video I deploy the new "Jungle Knot Tarp Ridge-line" idea I've been planning for the past few days to see how it performs. I also had a play with a different wood combo for the bow drill - Willow/Hazel - And then reward myself with tea in the woods to chill out. I hope you enjoy the video folks, I'm really thankful for you taking the time to watch. If you liked the video could you please give it a thumbs up and share it. Please leave a comment and if you'd like to subscribe, then hit the subscribe button and the notification bell to be alerted of my next video. Thank-you for watching... take care.

    I just saw a couple of channels with the jungle knots and made three of them. One paracord, one #36 bank line, and one thinner diameter paracord. I also added a toggle to the end of one of them.

    Nice one Andy. Interesting and informative
    I'm sure years ago I saw an old farmer boy tying his load down on his trailer with something similar to the 'Jungle Knot', never occurred to me it could have other applications. When I learnt to climb many moons ago I was told the smaller line helped kink the larger line on the prusik , I'm still here so it must have worked ;)

    The original jungle knot is descended from the British Army in WW II Southeast Asia, and making doubled cordage for use in the same hammock hanging or other "jungle cordage" uses. My john-cord was designed tinking out of the box ... away from Dave Canterbury making his rope marlin spike ladder (that basically is a PIA to construct then deconstruct (and hank back pinched rope). I thought there had to be a better option, and my design was the same with paracord in making jungle knots. And john-cord can be used for so many options in several 6 foot spans - that can be connected for longer lengths, or using 50 and 100 foot 550 or 1100 paracord and making ~22 and ~47 foot lengths. And doubled paracord with an overhand knot (barrel knot) can take the weight, even with the stated 125# working strength that is now 250# above the knot and 250# below the knot. No fear of dropping a hammock with a proper set up. Many comments on the use of john-cord or jungle knots are in my commentary of YT Bulgarian Organic Smallholding and his first making of john-cord and making various set ups.

    • @johnlord8337
      @johnlord8337 5 лет назад +1

      And if you really want an easier loop knot (easier than prussic and klemheist) then the john-knot is the way to go, and more gripping power, or easy sliding than these. Easier on, easier off. Use whatever ridgeline or cordage. Place your loop behind the ridgeline/cordage with your lesser hand. Reach down with the dominant hand and toss the loop to the left of your held upper loop, and drop. Pick up the bottom loop and toss to the right of the held loop, and drop. Pick up the loop, and thread through the held loop. Adjust, clean up, and tighten. This makes 8 cinch knots on the line. If you really want to have a King Kong grip for heavier options, then thread the bottom loop under the left and right lines THEN through the held loop for 16 cinch knots. Damn well will hold anything you need to hold, or just as easy to slide. Getting off ? Finger snap the loop knot, pull the held loop up and off, and the rest of the wond cordage easily pulls off.
      This knot can be used for any horizontal, vertical, or diagonal knot holding force for hanging objects, towing along a cordage line, and more importantly for James Bond For Your Eyes Only ... stepping up a climbing line. Same options for easier hanging of a ruck or a bear hang in a tree cordage, and adjusting the height of the hang with the sliding john-knot for proper storage.

      If you make the -cord with a palm width or 3-4 fingers, it provides a smaller loop and greater knots for multiple threading and multiple knot-locks on the line.

      Cheers Mark, yeah I'm the opposite mate, I can remember clove hitch and other simple knots, but there's a few out there that are used for the tarp that are a bit more complicated - I can learn them, but then forget...and when I saw the video by the guy at MKR channel, I thought to myself, "that's potentially the solution" but I'd like to test it under harsher conditions before I fully trust it and start recommending it. Thanks for watching, take care.

    The missing part to your system is the toggle. Any amount of extra length can be added with a toggle at the end of a cord. If the knot isn't big enough to hold the line, just put a toggle (stick ) between to hold.

      Nice one mate, does amsteel have alot of stretch? I find the standard paracord has alot of give in it which I think would cause the jungle knots to fail in high winds etc. I got the idea from MKR channel, but he uses them as guy lines for a tarp rather than a ridge line. Still a little project I'm working with off screen.

    I’ve watched a video from a military guy from about 2 year’s ago. The bank line on Para cord was Isle of Wight Bushcraft (Shane) I think
    I can’t do knots. So I’ve adopted this for my ex military Basha. Are you still using jungle knots?

    • @Woodsman_wildcamper

      Hi Mick, no i don't use them. The idea in my head didn't really work, it was to fiddly getting two trees the right distance apart to engage the jungle knots. It's faster for me to just use a simple ridgeline with a loop and one end then tie the other off with a hitch 👍
