    The option "works with Nest" does not exist in my updated Nest App.!!

    Hello @5:06, your video shows selecting "Works with Nest" under the Cog menu list.
    What version of Nest were you using in this video? "Works with Nest" is no longer there in my version of the Nest app. After the Nest Aware, I only got Nest Renew, then Rebates and rewards.
    Would you know if it's still possible in December 2023 to make my Nest Thermostat to be seen from the Google Home app within Android (or Apple's IOS)?

    Your video was great, much better than anything Google has offered. It's been a year since anyone commented so I'm wondering (before I migrate) is there still an issue with accessing the Nest thermostat after migration?

      @BeardedTechGuy  3 года назад +1

      Glad you liked the video!
      I don't have a nest thermostat so I can't speak to it directly. Nothing came up when I did a quick Google search, but that doesn't gaurantee anything unfortunately. I think with it being basically a year now they should have the kinks ironed out.
      If you don't have a need to migrate you can always wait at this point as well.

      @@BeardedTechGuy it was a bit more than I expected, but I finally have everything working. I had to remove and re-add the Nest Thermostat in Alexa. At that point Alexa knew about the thermostat, but the Google HUB didn't. I had to do a factory reset of the Google HUB for it to search for and find the Nest Thermostat. The biggest problem I had was self-inflicted. I had 2 Google accounts, but I mistakenly thought one was a Google Account ID and the other was just associated with the Google Account ID. So instead of migrating the gmail.com account I migrated the sbcglobal.net account. Turns out any Google Account ID not a gmail.com ID is known as a G-suite account and that type of account cannot invite anyone to join a home. I spent probably 10 hours on this "simple migration" as Google puts it. Anyway, thanks again for your video.

      Oh wow that's interesting, well thanks for putting in the effort to figure it out! I added a note to the video description mentioning to use a Gmail account, so hopefully it'll save others the hassle. Thanks for sharing your findings!

    I got logged out of my nest account and when I got back in I wasn’t on my nest and it said I had to like start a new one or something so idk what to do, do you think I have to be invited by my mom (the owner) to get back in?

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  4 года назад +2

      You will need to be added as a household member in the Google Home app. It can be found under Settings > Household then click on Add a person. Once that is done, you can login to the nest app with the account that was invited.

      @@BeardedTechGuy after migrating my access to my nest camera from my PC was disabled. My wife used her nest app on her phone to invite me to join her group which I accepted then when I used the nest icon on my PC to connect I was asked to set up hardware which I did and the app directed me to connect my PC's USB to the Cameras USB cable to complete the process. However, I am worried that if I disconnect my cameras USB cable that I will loose my original setup connection and have to install the camera again.

    So once you migrate to google home can you still access your devices from Nest app? I have multiple homes and was wondering if google home would allow be to add multiple homes like nest.

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  3 года назад +1

      Once you migrate your account you can login to the Nest app with your Google Account. The cameras do show up in the Google Home app, but honestly its slower to load video, you also can't make setting changes in the Google Home app.
      I just created a second "Home" in nest, and it gave me the option to use my secondary Google "Home" location or to create a new one.

    I’m wanting to migrate for the new subscription plans, as we have a lot of cameras. Do you know if the native geolocations for the cameras work with the Nest App after the migration? We have an indoor camera that currently turns on after we leave, and back off when we come home. Also, I’m a bit confused on family members. I’ve got 1 family member that has their own login for our Nest App. Will I be able to select their gmail address to migrate with me so they can use that email address to access the nest App? Or will they have to use mine?

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  4 года назад +4

      Great questions!
      The new plans are available in the US on the Google store. I converted over to the new plan a few days ago.
      I honestly never used that feature, but its still there within the Nest app and looks to be intact. I will try to test it out tomorrow to see if it still works, but I didn't find anything about it being broken from migrating.
      As far as family members go - if they are already part of your Google "Home" you can add them during the migration. If they are not, you will have to add them as a family member to your "Google Home" to be granted access. They would then be able to login to the Nest App with their Google Account. If you have the Nest X Yale Lock those users will be migrated over, also their pins will be changed (but can be changed back after). If you have smart home devices in your "Google Home" they will have full access to those devices as well as be able to add or remove other devices and add or remove other users (including yourself). This in my opinion is pretty short sighted.... but unfortunately there isn't much you can do outside of creating a separate "Google Home" and assigning the cameras to that one and leaving your other smart home devices in the original one. Doing this though, removes your ability for your Smart Home devices to interact with the cameras.
      Also, don't forget that ALL Works with Nest integrations will be lost during migration and will not be able to be restored. Make sure if you have any, that there is an equivalent under the "Works with Google" program or you're okay not having that integration anymore.

    I do not have the 'Migrate to Google Account' option. How is that possible?

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  2 года назад

      That's weird, it might be region specific I guess but with for how long they have pushing everyone to migrate I would be kind of surprised to see they haven't enabled it for everyone by now.

    ***Note: It is recommended to use a Gmail account for account migration. Failure to use a Gmail based account may limit your ability to invite others to your "Google Home"***

    Can I use just the Google home as a camera inside my home?

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  3 года назад +1

      If you have the hub max which has a camera, then yes you can use it as a nest camera. The other Google homes (by Google) do NOT have cameras in them so they cannot be used.

    I have G Suite- can I use the Nest Thermostat?

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  2 года назад

      My understanding is that the G Suite accounts have issues with a lot of Google products.... I would personally recommend making a personal Gmail account for any smarthome devices and use that instead of a G Suite account.

    So I’ve hit the migrate button.. followed the steps. Tried to sign into nest via google home app, and it won’t let me link the migrated account. So I went back to nest app.. now no longer able to sign into my old nest log in to be able to forget device to that account. So I’m now stuck signed into my nest app under my new google migrated unable to pair my nest cam to that account and unable to sign into anything on the google app... am I going mad? Tried all the obvious. Deleting apps.. resetting passwords.. contacting google and nest and yet stuck. Does anyone have an answer?
