Zhiyun Crane M3 and the Sony ZV-1 // The Perfect Match?

- Опубликовано: 26 июл 2024
- Today we travel the world (epcot) with the Zhiyun Crane M3 gimbal. The M3 gimbal is the next generation of the Crane line and this one is surprisingly very good with small cameras and even larger full frame cameras.
Todays video I'm testing out how good this gimbal can be and telling you why I think this is one of the best camera stabilizers I've used with the sony zv-1 camera.
The crane m3 is most suited for cameras like the sony zv-1 / zv-e10 / a6400 but works very well with the a7siii full frame line. #zv1 #cranem3 #sonyzv1

I got so excited in the first 5 seconds as I knew this was Epcot! We just came back and editing my footage now is making me look into gimbals, I think I am now sold on the M3, thank you so much for this video its been so so helpful!
This is what i was waiting or searching for,, crane m3+zv1,,, thanks alot for this upload:🙏🏻
Thanks for watching !
Thanks very much for this video. I’m constantly looking for gear that’s going to make outdoor vlogging just that much easier. I hate carrying around a bag full of lenses, tripods, cameras etc. This ZV1 and M3 combo may well be the answer I’ve been looking for. Thanks so much.
I'm digging your videos. I've taken an interest in photography and videography so that I can document my sewing/quilting/embroidery. One art feeding the other. Lol but your vour videos have helped me make my cam decision and to see what potential the ZV-1 has. Thanks a million and what a beautiful montage in the beginning
My car videos gone take off with this one ‼️💯 appreciate this vid
Thanks just got my crane 3 for the zv1 so this was super helpful.
perfect video. top quality and great explanation. subscribed!
Sweet Gimbal Kyle . I like it . Thanks for sharing this.👊🏻👍. I’m getting it
Impressed. Plan to move for my ZV1
Love the video, will definitely be looking into this for the ZV1!
🙏
Awesome review, i just got the ZV1 couple days ago, and im definitely going to buy the crane. Thanks for the video 🙏
It’s a great set up! I just love that it works for my larger cameras as well
I bought a crane m3 after seeing his review..its awesome..
Ooooo look at all those 24mm 1.4 B-roll shots of you and your gimbal action!!! Looked so good! Great job dude!
The is again Paul for filming
@@KyleWattsTV thanks again* 🤪 No problem loved it!
Great Video Kyle! You convinced me to get one. Thanks!!!
I’ve been desperately looking for a gimble to use with both the ZV-1 M2 you’ve got me convinced. Great video
How was your experience? I am considering this combo or go for the DJI Osmo 3 which might be even more compact with comparable quality output... Please let me know. Thanks
Just subscribed. Looking forward to more zv1 related content 👌 😀
EXCELLENT vblog for zv1 application , thanks , going out to buy one today
Thanks for making this. I have both but instead of me getting up and testing this myself…you just did it! The m3 works well on the Sony A7c too. Have a great day
Ive been using my a7siii and Sony 20mm on it too
@@KyleWattsTV nice! Yeah 24 mm fe 2.8 over here
This was dope. I didn't know I needed one until I watched this video. (actively reading Amazon reviews to justify this purchase)
Excited to see how it works out for your channel with the zv-1
We've been looking for some extra stabilization outside of just the standard in-camera stabilization that the ZV-1 offers. We got the Crane M2 originally but had some issues with the motor keeping up with the camera with the Ulanzi wide-angle lens attached (also felt a little bulky which got some wild looks from people around us while filming lol). This is an awesome review, especially for travel vloggers. Thanks Kyle!
Great review. Straight to the point. No nonsense. Subbed 😎
🙏
Just bought this gimble after watching your video, I’ve been desperately looking for a gimble to use with both the ZV-1 and the A7iii, you’ve got me convinced. Great video
ive been pretty surprised by it so far. didn't think it was gonna replace my weebill s but so far i haven't even used that gimbal.
@@KyleWattsTV damn, that’s reassuring, I should have mine in tomorrow, I’ll likely do a review on it after a while. Thanks for the infor in your video man. Definitely helped in my decision.
Wow, awesome review! Thank your for your work!! 👏🏽
🙏
In the long term, I'm sure I will upgrade to the M3S as it will also work wonders on my Canon M50 I & II with the Sigma 16mm f1.4. It looks nice and compact which is what floats my boat. For now, I will have to make do with the M2S during the current cost of living crisis in the UK. Will plough on using it on my ZV-1 M1- which I've recently bought in preference to the M2, - on my old HX80, on the ZV-E10 with the 11mm f1.8 and the Canon SX740 HS. As always, great to be able to watch your back-catalogue of excellent videos on the ZV-1. That's why I subbed.
This was so incredibly helpful! Thank you!!! Used your affiliate link! 👏
Glad it was a help!
Thanks from Austria, great review 👍
🙏✌🏻
Great looking Gimbal and seems like a perfect match for the ZV-1.
It’s pretty awesome for the zv-1. They also just released the m2 s which is a bit smaller and also made for smaller setups but the m3 is way better.
I wish it came in black, great review chief!!
Great review!
Very good job for the review bro, it is better than the other. The other just talk and talk without show us the footage to show what's the other's mean.
I hope you understand what my point is.
Best regards from Indonesia 👍👍
Great review Kyle 👏 for my Fx6 I have the crane 3s but for private holidays I use the ZV1 and I am very satisfied with this little small cam. I ordered yesterday the crane 3m 💪🏼😊 best cinematic greetings from germany
have you had a chance to use the m3 yet?
@@KyleWattsTV hello Kyle, yes I made some test shots (but I had not much time) but it looks very well out of the ZV1 😀 I am sure I can make some smooth shots with the 3m 👍🏻 in my next holidays I make a film with this combo 😉
Perfect! Thank you!
Just put it in my cart. Thanks man.
I was wondering if you got that gamble. Watching now. 🤭😉💪🏻 wow it’s pretty killer!!
Great video 😎
Nice I myself use the moza and the Sony zv1...but nice to see other gimbal moves thank y
What about the R3 mini Kyle? 😊🤭 I’m watching your video for the second time.. I got my R3 mini yesterday. She’s all set up and ready to rock and roll. First footage tomorrow. 😊👍🏻💪🏻
Great video! I have a zv1 and been looking for a gimbal that will work with it, I’m definitely convinced to choose m3 over m2s. Thanks for this great review, you definitely earned a subscriber here. Hope you have more zv1 related videos. ✨
Hey @ilarie2557 What your opinion on zve10 vs zv 1. I know like we don't have to buy extra lenses when we get zv1 but still I am bit confused that which one I should go for.
@@kaal6474 hi! i don’t really have any idea with the zve10, but for me, zv1 totally works for me. I wanted a compact camera I can easily use for making short films and travel vlogs (as I don’t like having huge cameras that people notice. hehe), and zv1 had made the cut. So far it haven’t failed me, and I’m pretty happy with it. I’ve been using it for quite a long time now and I don’t feel like I need to upgrade or change into a new camera. Hope that helps. ☺️
@@itsmeeilarie can I see your work somewhere like clips or short videos. Will really help me a lot. Cause i am worried about its video low light quality and stabilization when in car or business just walking 😅.
You deserve loads of subs bro
Hey, great to see. Got the M3 a few feeks ago. "only" tested it with my A7c - which is also a great fit. But the ZV1 has it's place and is very nice to use. And it's weak battery can be charged as well ;)
On the A7c with 50mm prime, I still had some shakes although I balanced it well (at least I think). So I activated the normal IBIS additionally to the gimbal. Looks better there...
On my a7s3 I turned the motor torque to high and it helped a lot
@@KyleWattsTV ok, I will try. But on medium I sometimes have shakes already...
How long the zv1 battery last when shooting 4k 30fps sir? Can i use powerbank to charge it?
nice review!!!
Thanks!
Great video thanks 👍
🙏
Me encantó ❤
Thanks for the review! Epcot is the perfect place to shoot. Do you know if you have room to plug in the hdmi out port when on the gimbal? Using a Sony ZV1.
You can get wider shot by adding a tripod extender to the gimbal. They have 6” or more. They sell different sizes. Just something I did.
Thanks for this comprehensive review Kyle. We have this exact camera and we’re thinking about upgrading to the ZV10 but after you’re review will just buy this gimbal and probably sell our GoPro 10.
Nice bro 👍
Hi There, could you please do a setup video and what additional module you might require to allow you to zoom in and out and pan via the gimbal. Looking forward to your help. By the way great intro video for the crane M3. I have one and thats exact reason why I purchased this one!
i went to check out Paul's channel but saw that i was already subscribed lol
Thanks! Great review! I started following Paul Feinberg's channel too.
Thanks! Hope the video helped!
@@KyleWattsTV It for sure did! Thanks!
great video
When speaking outdoor did you use an external microphone and how did you avoid background wind noises? I know you had the wind reduction soft feature attached to the ZV-1 but I've used that outdoors and still hear rumbling of wind in the background. Any advice?
Thank you for this video! 😃 Short helpful! What picture profile are you using? Also, do you color grade?
On the zv-1 I found that standard profile works best for me. The other profiles didn’t do enough to highlights for spend the extra time on. Standard looks pretty good on this camera. As far as grading, I usually do the basic highlight/shadow adjustments and use my go to basic lut that just adds a tiny look to the shot. Some of the talking head parts in this video were shot on the a7siii in slog3 and graded in post
I use crane M3 with my fx3+24mm/f2.8G, mostly in indoor for family life recording. Pickup anytime to gun.
Great set up for the m3!
Now I use Feiyu G6Max + fx3 + 24mm/f2.8, it’s more reliable, and lighter. Sometimes the crane M3 become shaking when standing alone.
Any thoughts on the M2S version? does it solve any weight problems?
Very useful, thanks a lot
Is this gimbal good for iPhones too?
Also I am looking for an high tripod for this camera and I want to video tape while I am standing with this camera
I am a DJ and I want to just record while I am standing
If you can please shoot a video about the ultimate tripod for maybe holding the recorder with lights .. etc thanks again
Yo! That white bird was a real bird?!?! What gimbal mode were you in when doing the walking vlog ptc? great vid btw!
There’s a selfie mode on the gimbal. That’s what I would have been using
Danke!
✌🏻
Can you do a set up guide and review of Zv1 with small rig cage and crane m3?
What lens do you use to get the wide angle? Is that good for filming real estate video walk throughs? Does it make you look wide?
Hi boss what do you think can we do planespotting videos with gimbal
Thank you for this informative video! Do you know if there is a way to zoom in on the Sony VZ1 using the gimbal while recording)? Or are you manually zooming in on the camera while it's connected to the gimbal? I've been trying to figure out if I am missing something because I haven't been able to zoom with the gimbal.
I believe that it only controls the rec start/stop on this gimbal when using the cable connection. They did make a new version (crane m3s) which is Bluetooth, but I’m not sure if that can control zoom or not
Thank you for your reply, your expertise is much appreciated @@KyleWattsTV
Hey kyle great video, thx alot!
I want to buy the zv1 and use it with the crane m3.
Because i have no experiences with cameras or gimbals i have a few basic questions.
If you buy the original handgrip GP-VPT2BT from sony for the zv1 you can connect it over bluetooth and control the zv1 like zooming or start recording.
How do you connect and control the zv1 with the crane m3? I know In the video you said with the cable (i assume i need a micro usb to c cable?), but this is neither really practical nor user-friendly? So i dont really get it 😅
The gimbal connection it using a cable that’s supplied. It only will start and stop the recording.
Thanks for these videos… new Crane M3 owner and I pair it with the ZV-E10. Question: the Small Rig Mount you have in the gimbal can you share a link? I found it but I wanted you to get the credit for the purchase - fellow creator here so I know the hustle.
Side Note - I’d love to have you as a guest on my show on my channel. Let me know if you’re interested.
What do you use to connect the zv-1 wirelessly to m3 (without the extra base accessory + bluetooth module)?
I've attached the cable that came with the M3 to my ZV-1 and it's not controlling any functions at all. Isn't it supposed to control the zoom, start and stop recording and the shutter function to take still pictures? Or, is it just to keep the ZV-1 battery charged?
Great review! I purchased this gimbal for the Sony ZV1 but how do you connect the ZV1 to gimbal to control the camera record and zoom?
The gimbal connections only control the start stop function on the camera. You need to use the connection cable (micro usb multi)
My last few videos were by my Sony zv 1..i tried everything but is still shaking..i Even download an app to stabilise my videos but its still not good enough...i am very disappointed can u help
does the zoom button on gimbal work with zoom on sony camera?
Kyle, did you turn off stabe for zv1 on this vid? It still looks tight AF.
I’m not 100% sure since I filmed this a year ago but most likely I would’ve turned it off
LOVE this review and sold on this gimbal without a doubt! Does anyone know if it will fit the Sony ZV1 Mark II?? I only see the ZV1 on it’s compatibility list
Zhyiun also just released an updated and upgraded crane m3s. That one has Bluetooth for the controls.
Hi have you used the new shotgun mic with the gimbal and the Sony zve1
Not with the new m1 mic but I have with the ecmb1m which is about the same size/weight
Paul's channel is a gold mine and he has only 1.5 k subs.
He sure does! He should have more subs by now
good
I am using with sony zv e10, I have purchased rode shotgun mic and now I am unable to balance the gimbal with mic on top. Could you please advise what can be done now ?
i have ziyun crane m2 whit cannon m50 and a huge mic and am stiĺl able to balance it chek out my balancing video
Thanks for a good review! Can you control start/stop and zoom on ZV-1 with the handle of Crane M3?
Start and stop yes. Zoom no
@@KyleWattsTV Just bought the M3 after watching this video. But how to you control the Start and Stop ?
@@Franklin8806 the kit comes with a micro usb multi link cable that you can plug into the gimbal.
@@KyleWattsTV have they updated the M3 firmware to control the zoom yet?
@@nwmi23 I haven’t checked yet. I’ll take a look at that soon
Hey boss, you mentioned being able to connect via cable then using the record button on the handle to start and stop but that you prefer to just push the button on the actual camera, have you actually tested it with the cable? Reason I ask is bc the m2 was supposed to have that same function but it didn’t work with the zv1. It would be a deal breaker for me to have that not work again on the m3. Also hoping that cable charges the zv1 bc battery sucks on these cameras. Cheers!
Yes it does start and stop recording on the zv-1. And you can set it up to help charge the camera as long as you have it set up that way in the zv-1 menu (power on usb)
@@KyleWattsTV awesome dude, and great review. I normally run a Sony A7iii with my Ronin SC but sometimes im just looking for a small setup. This may be the ticket :)
I just ordered this on eBay for 179.99 it’s on Amazon for 239.99 with a 20 off coupon as well. I hope it’s worth it
Really useful!
Is it possible to charge the sony ZV-1 with the gymbal, if it's, is it neccesarry to buy something apart to do it, and how much battery time can you have if you do it?.
Thank you.
It can charge with the gimbal. Connect the gimbal to the camera with the connection cable that comes with the gimbal (I think it’s the usb c to usb micro.) then in the camera you have to turn on the setting “power on usb”. It the. Should charge from the gimbal. It also should start and stop recording with the ref button on the gimbal.
@@KyleWattsTVThanks :)
When u zoom in and out does it throw the gimbal off balance or too light to make a difference?
Too light to make any difference
WHOA
hello i cannot conect my zv 1 to the crane 3 it say cannot recognize the usb cable on the camera, I've tried multiple cables and plugged it into my PC as well to test the connection.
You need to use the usb c to multi micro usb cable that comes with it. Make sure you have remote pc turned on in the menu and control with smart phone off. If you want the gimbals batteries to help charge the camera you can also turn on power with usb in the menu
@@KyleWattsTV We've tried this, power is going to the camera but it still says "cannot recognize this usb" on the camera. PC control is on. Thanks for the help!
What PP did you shoot in?
How did you connect the ZV1 with the gimbal to use camera control? I find it odd that the cable access in the camera is blocked by the tilt axis motor.
Just slide the camera over until you can plug the cable in and then re-balance the gimbal
@@KyleWattsTV It worked :) just would have been great if we can connect wirelessly as well.
Hey, great Video. Got a question. Please can u put the link by the Mic holder at the Crane M3?
It was from smallrig but I’m not sure they make it anymore. This one was a rotating version
@@KyleWattsTV thx 😎
Sorry but i have another question... is it possible to make a vertical mode for Insta Storys like the DJI RS3 Mini? And the second questions is, if u connect the Sony ZV1 with the Crane, is it possible to zoom in and out or is it possible to press the record button on the Crane. I meann i thinks it works with the Blotooth tool but i would lik to know if it fix with the Cable connection. Greetings
It will work to only control the Record button when the cable is attached. And as far as verticle, if you have a base plate or L bracket with a 1/4 mount on the side of the camera then yes you can do vertical. It doesn’t have the same kind of attachments to do vertical like the rs3 mini does
@@KyleWattsTV many thanks 🙏🏽
I am wondering, and if there is room on the side for the ports to attach the cables. The port on this camera to attach an external microphone, is on the same side of the gimbal motor, so I I am wondering if with that door open big cables will fit there
Yes you can mount the camera over a bit to the right to attack the cables and it will still balance on the gimbal. I just wasn’t using the cables so I pushed the camera up to the motor in this video
@@KyleWattsTV thanks a lot! I really appreciate your response.
Does the monitor display go dark with this gimbal too. It does with the m2. Even if you have the monitor set for sunny weather
Haven’t noticed it but I’ll have to check it out
@@KyleWattsTV yes it does with the M2 and the m2s as well. Spoke to Sony and the crane people they both agreed with it. What I did is turn the airplane mode on when I'm outside I have to manually turn the camera on and off for recording and in the inside I do not need the airplane mode. A little bit of extra pain but not too bad
Does the crane M3 come with a camera mount or you have to buy it separately ?
Crane M3 standard package includes the quick release plate.
@@hebehe462 thanks
WAS THE INTRO to this video is filmed with the sony a7s III ????
The entire intro was on the zv-1 on the crane m3 gimbal.
Do all the lenses you have listed work and fit perfectly with the Sony ZV-1?
The zv-1 is a fixed non interchangeable lens camera. About the only thing you can add on is the Ulanzi wide angle lens attachment
can you use all the buttons of the crane m3 ?? and if you can focus on objects or focus on yourself without touching the camera, that is, touching the crane m3
The only button on the gimbal that can control anything on the camera is the record start and stop button. The other bottoms control the gimbal and settings
Looks great.. How do you color grade this video?
All the zv1 shots were in standard profile with just adjusted highlights and shadows in post And maybe a touch of saturation added
How does it compare to Crane M2? Does the improvement justify $100 price and weight difference?
100% yes. The m2 is a good gimbal but the motors on this one are way stronger and also future proof you if you ever wanna go to a larger camera. The m2 I had struggled if I used the ulanzi wide angle lens and also the rode micro but the m3 has no problem with them even being used at the same time.
@@KyleWattsTV Already have bigger gimbals. I'll wait and see what DJI comes out.
I saw a lot od divided opinions on amazon about this gimbal. I am still wondering if it will works well with sony zv1, on amazon there are many complains. I am also considering beetween crane m2s or Dji r3 mini. And I am still confused which will be the best option, for quick and easy calibration etc.
Does anyone can advice me something? And also do I need to buy combo version for Zv1 to works well? Or, does a tripod from sony zv1 can be used for zhiyun crane m3?
I’ve never had any complaints about this gimbal and the zv-1. Works great for that camera. They did make a new version of the crane called the m3s which has stronger motors and Bluetooth connectivity
@@KyleWattsTV Ok, Thank you, but is combo version needed to connect with zv1? Or standard version its enough? Crane M3s unfortunatelly is out of my budget now.
@PodrozdoAzji I believe the standard version is the same.
Bro! why did you have to show that gimble, now i have to return the M2 i ordered that is coming in tomorrow. Debating to press the buy button.
can you attach a rode wireless go to the Zv1 while using the gimbal? Does it block the port?
Yes you can. You just have to move the camera away from the side of the gimbal enough to plug into the aux jack. Then balance it.
@@KyleWattsTV Awesome, thanks Kyle. Didnt it have a problem on the M2s?
@@midnightj1994 can’t really remember I guess but the adjustments on the m3 are more forgiving
I hope this gimbal u are talking about is all true..I bought the Sony zv 1...it's hopeless...I need a good gimbal...
Can you shoot vertical on the Sony zv1 with this gimbal?
If you have a base plate or cage that has a mounting point that will allow you to mount it vertically then yes it will work. The camera might get in the way if you go to an underslung position though
Hey Kyle,
Was the entire intro sequence shot in 4K 30 fps, just out of curiosity.

4k 24fps
@@KyleWattsTV thanks Kyle. I noticed a few speed ramps, hence my curiosity on the chosen fps. Wasn’t aware 24fps was capable. Correct me if I’m wrong. Cheers
@@kalkeyz you can speed ramp any fps faster. Can’t really slow down 24fps with out getting choppy though.

Which lens are you using
The camera /lens I was using for the talking head parts was the a7siii and Sony 20mm f1.8. All the rest is the zv-1 and the fixed lens
Hi. This stabilizer is suitable for the ZV- E 10 camera ?
Yes but I would look at the newer version called the crane m3s which has Bluetooth control for the zve10. Allows you to start and stop recording from the gimbal
@@KyleWattsTV What other stabilizer can you recommend for the Sony zv-e 10 camera ?
@@user-hh5hy7me8w the weebill 3s is a bit larger but it will hold more heavier lens set ups. Also the DJI rs3 is great but a bit more expensive
