Hi Ms. Pearl, Wow I truly enjoyed this video. It really made me feel good to see & hear you to ladies say what you did. I was so proud of you both. I'm near 70y.o. & it makes my heart glad to see that all is not lost with youth such as you two. I've only discovered you (2) in the last couple of day's thru a video you made with Xiamanye (in N.Y.) Hence I tagged onto you thru him, & JJsay's thru you. I"m amazed @ the courage you took locating to China; my hat's off to you. I wished I could speak every language so I also could break down the barrier's that we people have. God love all of you people who create content like this. Thank you so much for expanding my knowledge. Have a blessed day!! Illinois, USA
I come to this a year late but, you two rock! You make excellent points in a very cogent manner! I agree totally. People like you two only promote harmony and how can that be a bad thing? I'm really quite jealous, I have no talent for languages at all except my own. Tried to learn French and when in France, people I spoke to always answered in English because I was so terrible! Lol They really appreciated the effort though and I did have great experiences. So, to anyone who's nervous, don't be. The fact you try, even if like me you fail miserably, you'll still be better thought of!
I remember getting a similar reaction from my Grandma when I first decided to move abroad to Japan. She'd grown up during the second world war so she had Japan = bad in her head ever since and thought it would be dangerous. It was interesting getting her to visit before she passed away and she actually really enjoyed it, probably healed some old prejudices and stereotypes she had from way back. People tend to have an idea in their head about a country and also feel you can only be part of one country and culture. I'm very proud of being English and that culture, I also enjoy being part of Japanese culture. There are plenty of things I like and dislike about living in either country and didn't leave England because I hated it or had no friends or whatever. I think I'm like most people and just hit a point where I felt if I don't go experience what's out there soon I never will. Seeing life from other perspectives is a really good thing. There are probably plenty of negative China RUclipsrs as much as there are Japan ones. I grew tired of English speaking RUclipsrs in Japan for a long time because they were either miserable or just batshit crazy, only so much negativity you can take before you're asking "If you hate it why not leave?" but they never want to. I guess it's more because negativity and sensationalism gets more views lol. As far as stereotypes and people questioning you're a spy or being paid by the Chinese government, I guess you didn't help matters by showing footage of yourself in university doing a presentation on how evil American media is and how they are wrong about China lol, even I laughed a little at that. I guess if you're a positive person and don't act like all these super negative expats people make assumptions that you're a shill.
I think a large part of the problem is that there are two types of people. Those that have no interest in travel, or just travel in the manner that is basically the same as the life bubble they were raised in. The others want to travel and experience the true culture including the language of other parts of the world. The media tends to highlight disputes between governments which colors the knowledge that those who have never traveled to those countries. They understand that they are different unique individuals, but view others as basically monolithic clones who are all identical. It makes it easy to have flawed ideas of what is like to live in a different country. This is not a limited to North Americans but to a lesser extent every different environment. This is no different that an individual who was raised and lived in an urban environment and one living and raised in rural Wyoming or Montana. Their views of the life are formed by the images presented in the media, and not real world experience. When you add the learning of a language that is not directly related to their day to day existence it increases the skepticism. Why are you learning Japanese? What good will it do you? Are you going to live in Japan? What's the point? When I say I find the language unique, challenging and fun to learn, some just can't comprehend that type of thought process. The But Why's just never end because the general idea is just such a foreign concept, that it holds little or no interest to them, so their must be something wrong with you. There must be hidden, unstated reasons why anyone would engage in this sort of endeavor. Another thought provoking video.
I love the subtle dig to seprentza 🤣 I'm not chinese but it is obvious he has some sort of negative bias against chinese people, as almost all of his videos are about bashing china.
Hello, I am very recent on your channel. I love your videos! I just want to say thank you, first!! They help a lot! Please, please don't be self-conscious with "haters" on line. All humans are primal creatures, no offense, but it's true. 🙂 Most people are very afraid of things, that they don't understand, since the Stone Age era. When we are afraid of something the first reaction is to defence ourselves. Unfortunately, most of the time it happens through anger or frustration, which is sad in the 21st century. Happy filming!

Anming don’t stop with Chinese and Japanese....you can master Korean too...,especially with your experience with those two. Even though they are linguistically unrelated, they have so much in common that they can pave the way for Korean, both written and spoken. Written Korean, with its 24 letter alphabet, would be apiece of cake for you. In a matter of hours, not days, you would get a handle on it, some pronunciation hurdles not withstanding. Sentence word order is the same as Japanese, with a little more emphasis on honorifics. No question that this third fascinating language would round out and enrich your East Asian experience.

With respect, when China embraces democratic reform, respect human rights, and stop their aggression towards Taiwan and in the South Sea, the free world will welcome China naturally, no need for any ambassadors or 大外宣.
@@nycsimon2024 with respect, in your mind China is evil by default and hence, he is always the bad guy in every conflict. Have you even considered for once that China "may" have legitimate claims in their disputes with others? The South China Sea for instance, some of the documents China presented in the court ruling pre-dates human settlement in many of the other claimant countries. Have you tried seeing from their perspective? Talking of aggression, America is the one pursuing military alliance in Asia with one purpose alone: annihilate China; not China in North America. The issue is not that China is often misunderstood In America but instead Americans do not want to see the good in China. China is far from perfect and need reforms for sure. But it is by no means an embodiment of evil and neither is America a land of holies.
@@janglalgoupiak1891 The ideological differences between China and the free world is “the elephant in the room”. This is about human rights, democracy and freedom. Those values are enshrined in our Constitution. Chinese propaganda tries to sweep these values under the carpet and only talk about economic prosperity and the same old “mutual benefit” narrative. This pandemic proves that this doesn’t work either. What China did in China is affecting the whole world.
Most people don't realise international trading keeps moving between the West and East. Asian people invest in Western products and Western people buy Eastern products and made in China like consoles, iphones, macbooks, pc parts etc. A modern car most of the parts are from all over the world. If you go to a grocery store most foods are from different countries. People are always supporting each others country without realising it. Great video! I get these comments a tiny bit too, in a very small way, because of my interest in Asian culture and and because I'm prepared to identify and talk about Australia's weaknesses. But, when I was living in the US, Australians never assumed that my residence there implied that I hated Australia, but they did assume that I was a yanky-phile (which is not true). These problems of perception are why the US should be encouraging their kids to travel OS, do a working-holiday gap year, study abroad.
Shots fired at SerpentZA @ 15:10? lol. I think his perspective is valid. He's cranky that he had to leave China because of how creepy it was getting for him, his family, and his friends. I do miss his older content when he wasn't so jaded and he and Laowai86 got to explore China. Basically it seemed like a freer society - until you anger or get abused by someone in power. Then you have no recourse. Or if you try doing productive things, like petitioning for clean water or clean air, you get harassed or worse by party bosses that run the local factories. Not the only perspective, of course. But honestly, as an American, I do feel that if I went to China, I'd always have a sense of fear that I could get swept up for any reason. Will I probably be fine? Of course. But if something happens, that system is designed to ruin my life. I don't want to travel to a country that could randomly incarcerate me and I couldn't get the legal system to protect me. wo yao zou zhongguo lai, danshi keyi zhen bu hao. duibuqi. danshi, ni men zhongguoren - wo juede ni men dou shi hao. my chinese isn't very good, but it's a fun language and surprisingly straightforward. regrettably i don't feel comfortable going to the mainland at this time.

After watching your whole video, just some things to comment on: I got tired of the men in suits who speak poor Chinese with their video titles sooo clickbaity that the only truth to them is where the incident took place. Once in a while they’ll pop up again and I’ll be ready to click that “do not recommend channel” option Sadly, even some well educated westerners think that China is still living in the Qing Dynasty 😂 Rigid, black&white thinking is not conducive for mental growth, and people need to learn that rarely (if ever) is something 100% good, bad, mediocre, neutral or whatever. Totally unrelated: When JJ said “Latin” languages it reminded me of a Chinese friend who thought 拉丁文 was like 中文 and 法西意语等 were like dialects, but I was happy that my Chinese was at a level where I could explain to him the differences, and similarities 😃 Take care, and great video(s)! 赞!bravo!
I seriously doubt that “plumbing stereotype” anecdote. Everything you bought from Walmart are made in China sadly. The “ignorant person” who asked that question must be living in a cave.

我去年开始了学习中文,中国文化有趣。😍 I hope I can learn more and more about Chinese culture and language.
That's right. The older generation tends to be extra suspicious. Thanks for your insightful comment!
This warms my heart speaking japanese and chinese together. Its a blessing. You are the best oriental pearl muah love and kisses.
Thank you so much for sending love!
What's wrong with having no interest in travel or wanting to live in a bubble?
I love the subtle dig to seprentza 🤣 I'm not chinese but it is obvious he has some sort of negative bias against chinese people, as almost all of his videos are about bashing china.

I'm glad you liked that part. I spent a lot of time editing that first little bit of the video.
