The japanese/peruvian guy seemed awesome. Looks like he probably has interesting stories + life experiences too. Seems like @OrientalPearl is interested in interviewing, so look forward to seeing that video if she manages it!
I really like rickshaw guy. He's a lot more charismatic and especially casual and genuine than you usually expect from a japanese street vendor (or whatever generic term you wanna use for "person who sells good or services by talking to people in public"). In everything I've seen they are usually less reserved, but still very billboard professional in their language and vibe. This guy has big "normal dude" vibes and i fuck with it.
The part-Peruvian guy is right. I've also thought from the first video I saw of you that despite your (then) much longer time in China, your Japanese accent sounds much better than your Chinese one. I wonder if your greater experience with language learning in general let you acquire good speaking habits from the beginning. Or maybe it's more social! Being married to a Japanese guy means you're essentially "all-in" on Japan as part of your identity.
The guy who was born in Peru, his grandmother is Japanese and he is one quarter Japanese, he is funny! It was interesting to hear about the mixed race girl Pia, whose mother is Japanese and father is Swedish. I enjoyed the video!
I was thinking the same thing as an American - I can't judge her Japanese or Swedish but.... her English (vocally, and word choice) sounds just as native to me.
I can definitely relate to Pia. People tend to think I'm Mexican too. I really do look like it but I'm actually Native American. I can speak English, Spanish and Otomi (my native language) but I only speak Spanish because I married a woman from Latin America.
Yay… another Indigenous American Subscriber. I’ve been following Anming for several years. I can speak my language…ENGLISH and some SPANISH. My Sisters are part Mexican but they are totally fluent. Merry Christmas 🎁🎄🕊️. N. California Many people would get angry that I’m not fluent in Spanish sometimes as well. 😉
Honestly, I think one of the biggest things that makes her look Latina is her hairstyle and false lashes. As a child she looked very Japanese with her clothes and hair. Now with a slick back bun and long lashes, very Latina looking. I think if she had bangs and maybe a long Bob with common japanese makeup, she'd look more Japanese. I never realized that a hairstyle can really alter a person's look! Beautiful either way. 😊
It is their loss if they don't approach her or say she is "scary". She is FLAWLESS! What a beautiful girl. Honestly I don't see Latin, I see Pilipina ❤ She looks like my Chamorro family. 💕
She would blend perfectly in Mexico. She looks straight up mestiza. Now in a more European-white Latin country like Argentina, yes, she could be mistaken for Asian. But Mexico has way more native people mixed with Spanish. Just remember, Native Americans comes from Asia, so it’s also evident in ther DNA.
@@Galactusz007the reason why some filipinos like me can pass as latin is because natives came from asian. We are all originally part of the asian race.
Tbh, I have the opposite problem. I *look* Japanese. However, as soon as I open my mouth, they are confused. I'm Latin American Japanese raised in the States. xP
It’s no surprise if a person who doesn’t have the distinctive physical features of a Japanese person isn’t taken for Japanese; that seems perfectly normal to me. And it’s not a matter of racism, but simply rationality. Here in Italy, there are people from North Africa, China, and Black individuals who are Italian because they were born here and attended Italian schools, but no one would assume they’re Italian just by looking at their physical features, simply because the majority of Italians don’t have those traits.
Thats just how humans work. Im filipino and people say i either look bumbay(indian) or latino. Weirdly im chinese by blood and have no spanish mixture. If you live in the capital mostly no one willl ask but if i was in the province people would wonder. So i agree its very normal for people to be curious people if they dont see the common features
Yeah I’ve been in Japan for a few years and when I speak Japanese to staff or other people, most try to speak back in English. I look at it as practice for them so it doesn’t bother me anymore. I think it’s cute that I am giving them a chance to practice their English and feeling more comfortable with it.
It's a "hybrid thing". We all halves have felt like that in some situations and settings where most of us don't feel like we fit in. But she's a positive person and socially approachable so there shouldn't be that difficult for her at the end of the day✌️🇸🇪🇯🇵
It seems being Japanese doesn't mean being born Japan. It means both your parents are Japanese and you are completely adherent to the culture and language and look.
Thats how it is for most countries in the world. It is only NA, SA and some immigrant countries who follow the logic of being born in that country makes you that. Most countries it is ur blood and ethnicity that matters. U can live and be brought up with their culture but by biology you arent like them.
With Hispanic coworkers I tend to speak Spanish to them as they speak English to me. It's just a matter of practice for everyone involved. If we don't understand each other then we revert back to our preferred language. When it comes to important things I won't speak Spanish. Like when approached by an officer in Mexico. I was extremely sick and told him in Spanish that I don't speak English after he talked to me in Spanish. He stopped talking to me after that. lol
My father, an Australian, was intensely interested in Japanese culture and language. He spent two years in Japan and was completely fluent in the language. I remember him telling me that Japanese found it hard to believe he could speak Japanese. On meeting someone new he would speak several sentences before they realized. In another video Pearl called it the Glitch In The Matrix.
The rickshaw driver was so funny when he said "... I'm from Ishikawa prefecture. I'm a sh*t hillbilly." He has a terrific sense of humor and so much personality. I was blown away by how much a rickshaw costs, and that doesn't even include an engine!
I have to disagree! I am mixed Japanese/American. My Japanese relatives loved me and when I was stationed in Japan when I was in the Navy, Atsugi and Yokosuka, I'd go out in Tokyo and when I spoke with the natives, they were surprised and accepted me. I also had a Japanese Girlfriend even though I looked Filipino or Mexican.
That’s awesome. I’m really happy for you and to hear that. I’m mixed race too. Originally from Brazil (adopted) and found out I’m European, Asian, and Native American. My European heritage are England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal, and Cambodia. Israel. My Asian heritage are Japan, South Korea (Seoul), China, and Taiwan. I for the life of me cannot remember if I am a bit Vietnamese too.
@@OrientalPearl it was part of a promotion they were running to get more members. I thought it was really cool. My aunt is Japanese and collected a lot of Japanese plates and tea pots. She'd gift them to my grandma as presents to hide them from my uncle. Lol.
And there is me, half european, half filipino, learned fluent japanese. Japanese people sometimes think I'm half japanese. When I'm flying from and to japan, the airline members greet non-japanese tourists in english, while they greet me in japanese
My ex is mixed thai/swedish, and I thought she was Latina before we were dating. For some reason, the asian/swedish mix sometimes has that effect. On another note: she's absolutely stunning, so the lack of attention in Japan is surprising to me.
Happa dude from the west coast of the US. Everything she said is 💯 spot on. You never fully inhabit either space, for me white or Japanese. And the poorly worded questions like “what are you?!” During the pandemic when we all wore masks people I’d known for years would say the dumbest things like “wow you actually look asian with that mask” (they could only see my eyes).
2nd beautiful girl from japan ive seen on this channel that said they've never been asked out on a date in japan. its crazy! japanese guys need to step their games up!
3:58 Hi Pearl. At this point in your video, I think I heard a sound, a voice from Noh Theater and I copied it out loud. My family thought I had gone bonkers. "YO-Ooooh!" 🇺🇸🤝🇯🇵
1:03 As a mixed swedish/chinese person living in Sweden I just had to say that Sweden is a really diverse country when it comes to ethnicities. There is a bigger chance that people would speak swedish to you if they saw you in public than for people to think that you are a foreigner. I don't know the statistics but im guessing about half of Sweden or maybe even more is non swedish ethnicities.
Your last sentence is sad to hear. And I'm not trying to troll or being a jerk here. It's sad to see native people's culture diluted and them lose control of their own nations no matter what people it is. And I don't blame the ppl who immigrate in mass, it's the elites in the EU who push it and the ones who make other nations unlivable with their wars and religious/tribal garbage. It's just sad for both ppl who are losing their cultural and national identity and the ppl who have to escape theirs as well.
I am white and got told by a Japanese man that I look more Japanese than him and it's weird I don't try and learn Japanese because when I smile I look like his mom and would blend in so well with his family. 😂😂 Idk if I was insulted or fascinated but then he found out I enjoy learning about Japan and my family history with the country and he said" see see you were Japanese in your past life. You know more than I do and I been there and was forced to remember our history. I forgot it all but still." He tried to teach me some Japanese but learning other languages makes me nervous. My family is French, and I though understand French, Spanish, and Portuguese. I can not speak it confidently, though my accent and pronunciation are perfect. I am on a server that is mostly all Brazilian. 😂 They are amazed at what I understand and don't. I am good at reading and writing even in English than speaking it.
Reminds me of this one girl who's half black and half Japanese and she prefers to live in Japan despite living there and in Texas was bad for her because of the bullying
My aunt is from Tokyo. My friend is Japanese. They definitely are Not excited about mixing races. Modern kids don’t care. Just older people lean that way.
I love your videos, not only great entertainment but full of information 😊 Also I think Pia should have a date with the guy from Peru! ❤ Good looking and funny!! 🤗
Oriental pearl. The girl does look Latina. I know she's not if you would tell me That she's Half Japanese.. Then I will believe it that She's half Japanese. She does look. Latino and her body looks Latino. She's very pretty. I'm surprised that no Japanese guys have not Approached her. she's very pretty.😊❤
I like it when you tell us where you meet the people you are interviewing. A previous one I watched you said you met the actress Mika (?) At karaoke. Where did you meet Pia?
I have distant Japanese ancestry - 11 generations back - & more-recent Swedish ancestry - from only 3 generations back (among many other ancestral ties). IMO, it's all good (& I wouldn't be able to write this without them; so, I thank God for bringing them all together as He did). Now, to me her face appears more Japanese than Swedish & her figure looks quite Scandinavian-like (as in hour-glass like): quite nice overall (whether or not she's mistaken for a foreigner among her own Peoples). 😎👍 I have so many racial, ethnic, & regional mixes in my ancestry that I wonder if any of my ancestors had any great social issues to deal with in their lives (esp since many were at war with one another at some point in time). Now, she comes across as if Japanese men don't seem to like her looks; but, the rumor is that Japanese men aren't pursuing women much lately (& Japan's birth-rate is way down); so, currently she might be experiencing more of a national trend than a personal rejection (& hopefully this situation will change sometime soon).
WOW, she so beautiful, and do fluent speaking i all 3 languages, for me, her English sounds like britiske accent, Swedish was perfect, and i guess her Japanese was spot-on. im Half Philippino Half Danish, Living in Sweden, planning to move to Thailand. I would date her any day. She so beautiful and cute. But wow her mom was stunning beautiful like a Model.
Like this girl, my 5 friends who are half say they didn't face discrimination in Japan, just curiosity. They said they faced more discrimination in America and Europe than they did in Japan.
I also think so. Especially half women get fetishized in Europe. As a german woman with japanese husband, i have a baby daughter and definitley dont want that to happen to her. She will grow up in Japan
The guys in Japan must be totally nuts or very intimidated by her mere presence. She's pretty, great shape, speaks 3 languages, seems very kind, and we share something in common. I'm a 1/2 Swedish citizen of the Creek Nation in Oklahoma, USA. Great video, thanks!!
For me just upon looking, it’s not so much her looks but how she carries herself also. Her hair is slicked back really tight and she looks like she’s going to an important business meeting. She looks like a strong woman in her facial expressions too so it could be intimidating. I think a softer hairdo on her would make her more approachable. Don’t get me wrong she is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous but I think she has an intimidation factor even tho she’s as sweet as a marshmallow when you talk to her lol.
The tight slick back is a very rare look for a Japanese woman. This is a more prevalent look in latinas so can't blame ppl for assuming that upon initial impression.
London is close to where I was born. But I'm really glad I got out years ago. What a mix of languages this lady speaks. I didn't think she was Japanese. Looks can be deceptive.
Aww Ms Pia is so stunningly gorgeous!!😍 Its crazy to me to hear about how she has been mistaken for everything but Japanese lol. I know how she feels a little bit. I am half Native American and as far back as i can remember, everyone has asked the same questions..."where are you from?" or "what are you?" 🥴😅 Ive been called a "mutt", bc im mixed, folks usually assume I'm hispanic, or half black, and I've also been asked if i have Asian in me (that one i dont see lol). I love my ethnicity, eventhough I become the guessing game for some lol...i wouldnt want it any other way! 💛❤️🖤🤍🪶
I just saw one of your where you and matt discussed how some people on RUclips claims to be polyglot but to me you speak Japanese and mandarin very well I want to learn many languages for sure but I am a great listener and I have been around people who spoke different languages from the countries they was from like Thai a person from Korea so I can recognize how some languages sound. And the reason when you put more complicated levels of Japanese on your channel and people don't watch is because some people's brains don't appreciate nor comprehend that level of Japanese so to me you are doing very well on making videos and some people are to dumb and shun intelligent videos like yours and many others
Korea really doesn't either. Its a Asian cultural thing. What I have discovered is that they are more opened to white-mixed race but even then that varies. Bullying is a SERIOUS thing that they never really address. It always came off to us as either you "fit" or "you don't" and that's that.
I can totally relate to this 😂. Whenever I transit through an airport in Japan I am asked to show my passport (Japanese) at the security checkpoint. The Japanese security officers then ask me questions in broken English while I reply in native Japanese 😅. Yet the officers still refuse to speak to me in Japanese.

What a great Interview
fabulous episode as always, your interaction has such casual vibe yet engaging and fun to watch!! I learnt a lot!

The guy who was born in Peru, his grandmother is Japanese and he is one quarter Japanese, he is funny! It was interesting to hear about the mixed race girl Pia, whose mother is Japanese and father is Swedish. I enjoyed the video!
Another fun introduction to a lovely Japanese person with some uniqueness. With her English accent she can easily mingle with us Londoners! :D
Glad you enjoyed it! I appreciate you always being here for support.
N. California
Many people would get angry that I’m not fluent in Spanish sometimes as well.
@Galactusz007 Yup I do know ancestory and genetics. I also know what she looks like to me.
Whats a chamorro? Arab?
@@Galactusz007the reason why some filipinos like me can pass as latin is because natives came from asian. We are all originally part of the asian race.
@jmgonzales7701 It's a true indigenous native of Guam.
the 3/4 Peruvian guy was funny. I wanna be his friend.
Me too. I’d love to interview him.
Dude was high AF. At least that's my impression. Couldn't stand still. Fidgeting. Very restless.
@@OrientalPearl Hope to see that video soon!
@@OrientalPearl Hey I saw you one time in Takeshita Street. You look awesome!
Love this 😊
Mixed race is a tricky yet fun thing to discuss and explore 🤘💜🤘
Tbh, I have the opposite problem. I *look* Japanese. However, as soon as I open my mouth, they are confused. I'm Latin American Japanese raised in the States. xP
The Peru guy is so funny, hilarious and nice!
Nah, her English is not even close to British. She has very strong not English speaker accent.
@salazarreach1636 Ok. I mina svenska öron låter hon brittisk, men förmodligen inte för en britt. Hennes svenska är i alla fall perfekt. Hur tycker du hennes engelska låter? Det låter inte som då en svensk talar engelska, inte heller som en amerikan.
I can understand you Because i know English,Swedish is the Real Language closed tights with English language.
@salazarreach1636She has a very good English accent, you can hear the London accent very clearly. You’re wrong.
Enjoyable and good editing
Thank you so much. I just got a new camera so the next video will be even better.
Her London accent is pretty!
I think so too! Love it.
Skoj!
2 lovely ladies and a charismatic energetic guy on the street corner.
Nice video!
Aww, thank you so much!
Pearl is such a pure soul!
She is a pearl!

It happens to me in Thai too 😂 very funny and cute.
@@TheGaragelifterin thai?
The rickshaw driver was so funny when he said "... I'm from Ishikawa prefecture. I'm a sh*t hillbilly." He has a terrific sense of humor and so much personality. I was blown away by how much a rickshaw costs, and that doesn't even include an engine!
Yeah, he’s a rare guy.
Can you interview him again? It’s interesting he said he’s not mix at all.
Thank you! Great video-interview, I really like all your videos. Thank you...
Thanks Alex. I’m making another one for this weekend.
Times have changed, look at the atmosphere and racial climate in America and abroad!
@@DarkbluedevilYou Wrong
What is there to disagree with if it's about personal experiences lol
U haven’t lived there long enough to notice it
With Sakuraco right now you can get a kimono, teapot, or a snack box depending on your teir.
That’s really cool. I didn’t even know that.
@@OrientalPearl it was part of a promotion they were running to get more members. I thought it was really cool. My aunt is Japanese and collected a lot of Japanese plates and tea pots. She'd gift them to my grandma as presents to hide them from my uncle. Lol.
Good Stuff! I enjoyed this video.
I’m so glad you liked this one.
And there is me, half european, half filipino, learned fluent japanese. Japanese people sometimes think I'm half japanese. When I'm flying from and to japan, the airline members greet non-japanese tourists in english, while they greet me in japanese
To be fair asians can pass for each other.
Yes because thats how you know when someone is asian
Relate to the quarter guy suuuper hard. Great video
2nd beautiful girl from japan ive seen on this channel that said they've never been asked out on a date in japan. its crazy! japanese guys need to step their games up!
She is not beautiful, imho.
Yes, and they are both friends too. The last woman I interviewed recommended I meet Pia.
So much new vocabulary I get in your videos 😂❤. You should do video on slang words. Like hillbilly and punk.
Such lovely people.
I forgot it all but still."
He tried to teach me some Japanese but learning other languages makes me nervous.
Yay I like Oriental Pearl!
Reminds me of this one girl who's half black and half Japanese and she prefers to live in Japan despite living there and in Texas was bad for her because of the bullying
Is that the girl who got interviewed by Akita Inaka School while holding watermelon?
Yep
Hello from Portugal, I hope you are having a lovely day.
I really like the Sakuraco boxes. Looking to subscribe!
Local guys are intimidated by her. Those eyes, beauty & the language proficiency 😌
😎👍
I have so many racial, ethnic, & regional mixes in my ancestry that I wonder if any of my ancestors had any great social issues to deal with in their lives (esp since many were at war with one another at some point in time).
She's absolutely beautiful.
There is no way the rickshaw guy isn't a model
Different experiences
Great video. Thanks
Excellent expose video. Thanks 🙏
London is close to where I was born. But I'm really glad I got out years ago. What a mix of languages this lady speaks. I didn't think she was Japanese. Looks can be deceptive.
Would've guessed she'd say she's most comfortable with speaking Swedish, her Swedish sounds perfectly native.
Wow you hit a million! Congratulations!
Ha ha, yes about a year ago. Where have you been all this time my friend?
Beautiful.. En riktig pärla 😮
Lovely video 👍🎄
@3:49 and @10:35 Samurai Showdown II battle start sound ? Very interesting video.
They respect the racieal hierarchy
2:36 is he really Japanese. Looks like Latin guy living in Japan
Alot of japanese look like that. You would be suprised
@ likely mixed
Please interview the Peruvian-Japanese person! He stole the show
I can totally relate to this 😂. Whenever I transit through an airport in Japan I am asked to show my passport (Japanese) at the security checkpoint. The Japanese security officers then ask me questions in broken English while I reply in native Japanese 😅. Yet the officers still refuse to speak to me in Japanese.
I just ordered my first tokyo treat box
Great video. She is such a lovely person.
Thank you so much friend! I’m working hard to get another video out this weekend.
