      You have to move up to the highest Snapdragon Elite SKU to get increased GPU clocks. And there are no Surfaces that use that SKU (the Surface Elite chip is the middle of the three Elite SKUs).. So far only the Samsung laptop has it.

      @@dpodjasek Yea I’ve seen, just doesn’t make sense to me. Why give the base model the same gpu performance? They could lower the price even more and get even more competitive with Apple. • @trevorhanson3489
      @trevorhanson3489  3 месяца назад

      I don't see any vents on the back, ventilation is around the edges, and fans rarely ran while the tests were going. I would say it does not affect the performance, but I will stand them up on the next tests on the 32gb vs the 16gb.

    • @Manuel-rl6um
      @Manuel-rl6um 3 месяца назад +2

      @@trevorhanson3489 I've seen other times that the verticality of the Surface form factor actually allows for more airflow to cooldown the back of the Surface. Similar to what Asus used to do with the ergo lift thing where the keyboard raises a bit, but more, as it's completely standing/vertical. If otherwise it's flat on the surface of the table, most of the heat will escape through the fans/vents but some will stay there longer.
      The difference is probably negligible, as you said. But it would be an interesting test.
      Thanks!

    I've watched about ten hours of video reviews on the newly released Snapdragon offerings. Broad and in-depth HP, Lenovo, Microsoft and Samsung reviews. I'll cut right to the chase. These laptops in no way match the marketing expectations and frankly, are a complete bust.
    For the same or less money you can buy better configured Intel/AMD/Apple laptop systems that will perform flawlessly without the emulation and compatibility problems. Best advice I've ever read regarding the purchase of a new laptop is, "Buy the system for what it can do now, not what the venders promise it may do tomorrow". Personally, I'll wait for the new AMD Zen 5 or the Intel Lunar Lake chipsets before making a major purchase. We should see those systems become available in the 3rd quarter of this year and there is every reason to believe they will deliver a much higher performance and compatibility expectation. I suspect that the Qualcomm Snapdragon systems will ultimately rank as the most over hyped laptop computers ever made.

    • @trevorhanson3489
      @trevorhanson3489  3 месяца назад +1

      I am in an agreeance on most of this, I feel like they had to push something of an arm chip to get their foot in the door. As of now they can't compete but perhaps in the near future they can provide some sort of arm competition with apple and give the consumers more options.

      @@wheezel55, Yes. The battery life on these ARM based systems is very good and definitely superior to what you'll get in most Intel/AMD solutions. They are also very good in terms of performance when running many general purpose productivity applications. My disappointment, expressed in my earlier comment, was based on the reality of the system versus the marketing hype. To be clear, these new Snapdragon systems are, in fact, very good at what they do, but you need to be clear on the limitations and, in my humble opinion, the manufacturers should have been clear on those limitations from day one.

    Thank you for the deep dive appreciate the effort that many didn’t do to provide useful information about these “revolutionary” chips.
    Sadly this won’t make anyone rush out to buy them at these prices with this performance and compatibility issues that still need to be resolved.
    And if they don’t exactly sell a ton of them, then developers won’t rush out to support them so it only makes the transition much slower.
    It’s clear today apple M much better if you care about bang for buck at higher performance and better package ( screen, battery, etc)

    • @trevorhanson3489
      @trevorhanson3489  3 месяца назад +1

      I agree, there had to be a rush for compatability since it was apple. MacOS is king in terms of productivity and if you don't have apps for it then you may lose money to a competitor that does make something that is compatable. I think this is a great step for windows laptops though, hopefully gives Apple more competition so that they also push to give us (the consumer) more performance. It'll be a win for everyone.
