You probably should put a Fanless Macbook Air into the freezer and use a stress test and see the performance gains!
Next video, 10 best freezers for your X Elite Laptop?
😂😂😂
Building condensation, avoid doing this if it’s your laptop
Any electronic to be exact
Condensation can only occur if the testing environment is humid. Water can never condense if it’s not present in the testing environment.
@@baltazarcortez7328 would you say this method is risk free then ? The heat generated by the laptop will melt the small amounts of ice present in the freezer raising the humidity levels and creating potential hazards for the internals. Correct me if I am wrong please.
@@Jeannemarrethis is correct
Thank you for putting this as this wasn’t explained in the video. This should be an immediate “Do at your own risk” warning before the video begins. Just because you and I as well as many others know this, an equal amount of people probably don’t.
putting a laptop in a freezer to get more performance is the most bizarre thing I've heard this year
You must've missed the 2019 Macbook saga
Chips get hot and when they do, they throttle if they reach pre-defined temperature thesholds, so it makes sense.
Qualcomm wants you to take your new X Elite into Sam's Club or CostCo and do all your work inside of the Milk and Produce walk-in cooler.....🤣
LTT had a water cooled Macbook - and with water cooled I mean real water cooling. :) But they also had freezers afair.
I do this with my iphone and my other phones🗿
Your coverage of the X Elite has really been outstanding.
!!!WARNING!!!
Don’t ever do this to your laptop. It may die because of the condensation forming inside
Not unless it manages to cool down sub zero internally and you put it in humid environment. Few minutes with CPU heating up the device won't do anything
keep them in front of an AC, we need that AC vs non AC.
nice find with the fan control!
Now try this with the macbook air. That would be cool!
Pun intended?
They are limited by software. Linus tried that.
Lol
Someone did it with the m4 iPad and managed to get the highest single core score in geekbench that anyone’s ever got for that chip 🤣
@@perseus31 that was so long ago.
It's not healthy for any CPU or GPU, to run at 107°C. It shortens the lifetime of the chip. Doesn't matter who makes the chip.
Silicone degradation is thing. Ask Intel.
It depends on a product. Intel typically has Tjunction max temperature is 100-110C. There are also components (incl. CPUs/SoC) with rated temperatures 120C or even 150C. It usually depends on market segment and related requirements.
based on the criteria and what OEM have done, the inconsistency of the benchmark prove that at this point just get the cheapeast snapdragon x plus model and set it to best battery, for normal uses would be great and would be a great casual experience with all the benefits.
I hate it when people do stuff like this. It's like advertising a Mustang with 300 horsepower and then governing it down to 240
“there is no reason for them to throttle speeds at low temps” how do you know? are you a cpu engineer at qualcomm?
They have no reason.. there are multiple country where the summer can hit nearly 40°C, and the cooling is depends on the environment air temp.. imagine when your 39°C chip heating more, because of the 40°C air from the envuironment..
in my city is 41°C , today i was repairing machine whit my scar strix i9-12900h, it is loud , but it just works. It is better to be loud then to advertise speed that is not there
Just use a laptop cooling pad with multiple fans instead of putting the laptops into the freezer.
I dont think Max has seen Alex video where he explains that windows has all power perfomance all messed up
Oh my !!! rigor is back !!! THANK YOU !!! and thanks to Alex Z for his work !!!
Boss: Can you complete this work for me quickly?
Me: Yeah, let me find a freezer to sit inside and work boss.
There is a simple reason why the Samsung is slower, they just have a hide different power setting that you could change over the terminal
Great finding. I had to put my old Intel Mac in the freezer to get it to boot
Why not test the 15" Surface 7 laptop? I bet you that one will hit closer to the top performer.
That's what i thought. The bigger the device. The better the cooling
What was the ambient temperature when you run the tests ?
Significant effort and excellent discovery. Thanks
Macbook air is fanless and have the same performance regardless if its unplug or plug to charger. Non of these Windows laptop can do that so it only means its not efficient like M1. Its just a bit better than Intels chips but still require fan and require mote power to get the highest performance
Waiting for x elite 2
2025 end.
Waiting for x elite that can run games Nvdia level. What’s the point of buying windows laptop when you can’t even play games
Really interesting video. It seems to me the big issue is that the laptop manufacturers are limiting the fans (not entirely sure why).
I'm pretty sure to be co-pilot plus certified they have to be within a certain battery life and temperature threshold so that's probably why
The SKU absolutely will make a difference if your workload is punchy. Loading apps or web pages for example, the chips won't overheat in a couple of seconds, so you'll actually get those 'turbo' speeds. Whether you'll notice, not so sure, but the 'faster' X Elite laptop may feel a bit snappier. For sustained workloads, I agree the SKU won't matter because of thermals and throttling. This is also true of many Intel based laptops - they often have power envelopes that reduce clock speeds after a short burst, even if thermals are stable, presumably to limit chassis heat, fan noise, and battery drain.
Imagine the VivoBook S15 had the 84 SKU. The performance will be dope, cause of fan control.
I still cannot believe that Samsung will try to reduce fan noise to be as quiet as Apple's MacBook, but due to that, it loses performance and is slower, just crack up the fan, lad. Make it loud and give us the performance you advertised, I don't care if it's loud, just don't let the fan crack up for no good reason when I am watching a RUclips video.
It's called Surface Laptop cause all the heat is at the surface
Great job guys. Very informative!
@MaxTechOfficial, perhaps you could share the fan noise in these tests.
good cooperation between youtubers
I have a suggestion try to get a TEC Thermo Electric cooler and you can test rest on open environment. Which will help better understanding about the temperature and its limit.
I wish the Vivobook S15 had a touch screen
Try putting it in the freezer! Once you close the door, it has a touchscreen! Magic!
But after changing the fan setting on the vivo book, did battery life suffer greatly?
When changing Samsung's high-performance mode, Cine's score is 960 to 980 points.
You have to change to FN + F11
Windows power setting does not affect Cinebench score
The default 850 points are balanced in Samsung performance mode.
I used to put two of those reusable ice packs under my laptop when compiling C++ code back in the day! 😆
"Cool" findings, thanks!
To play on my laptop, I use cooling block in my freezer. The thing you use to keep cool your food when you are outside (I am not sure of the name in english
English : maybe we say, "Freezer pack", "saltwater pack"
@@systemBuilder thank you
It can be happening because of the thermal paste on each cpu die. Try to see if it is properly applied.
Great and interesting video. Do you know or you can test if the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x (78 sku) have this fan controller?
simply amazed that it it's even more powerful that all we have seen these days
Very interesting and formative video. I'm wondering if a firmware update could change that.
Nice conclusion
Thank you!
thank you, very helpfull
In your Reno 12 Pro vs S24 Ultra video, the Samsung being used is the S23 Ultra. Comments are paused there so I have to say it here.
Galaxy books should also have different fan options in ,,samsung settings,, or something like this
My first thought was, did i click on a laptop vid from 2005? But no, just a retro do lol... Hey now, your an all star😅
These discoveries are not new, this is common in most windows laptops especially with Chips than can suck in more power than the TDP allows for. Since 8th gen intel and maybe ryzen 4000 mobile, the surface temps and TDP has always been the limiting factor in laptop designs. For intel's case you can manually change the target temp and TDP profiles using throttlestop and for some AMD laptops you can do so with APU tuner something. This is expected behavior in thin and lights. You only get gains in single core power but when you run a heavy multithreaded test it's a benchmark of who has the largest heatsink/fan setup/power budget.
they could also unlock undervolting because they tend to go overboard with excess voltage.you can gain alot from that
@@fdgdfgdfgdfg3811 This is true. Was usually done on intel chips from 7th to 10th gen untill the undervolt security flaw, then intel made the manufacturers lock voltage control sad.
I think you can share the fan noise in these tests
Have you tried freezer test with Macbooks? ;-)
Aren’t there any new technologies or any progress towards cooling systems or radiators for laptops n mobile?
Thanks Vadim for those good results. The 12-core Snapdragon X Elite is comparable to the 12-core Apple M3 Max which also gets very hot, in both cases the problem lies in the number of cores they have.
If you can, try to get at least a laptop that has the 10-core Snapdragon X Plus chip to do the necessary tests and compare them against the Snapdragon X Elite SKUs.
Regards
the advise is only about the performance. but which has the nicest entry screen and upgraded screen? how do they type? touch screen? sound (from speakers)? ports. webcam quality? battery life? all those things matter as well. so buy what fits you the best. the hard thing is only that there are not allot of stores anymore where you could try them out.
I am wondering, that the Surface Laptop 7 13" has an 80SKU - from my understanding there must be a 78SKU, only the 15" has the 80SKU
Why no "binned" X Elite with fewer CPU cores and/or fewer GPU cores?
Max, what about thermal pads? Are you going to try it out?
What do you want to do with thermal pads in these laptops? They already have fans. The thermal pads technique is for fanless machines.
freezer stuff only helps with long term perf
But isn't this true for pretty much any laptop anyway...?
I'm going to run linux on mine anyway 😀(got a lenovo yoga on order) Would be interesting if you could test that. I know that not all drivers are upstreamed yet...
Nice video, I am saving my money to buy the MacBook air M3 now
since when is 109°C on MacBook Air a good thing lol ?
user-adjustable optional fan control indeed should be available, good point :)
And what if you combine the freezer and the cooling stand?😅
In auto industry user reachable top surface temperature for non-conductive materials (plastics) is +50°C and for conductive materials (metals) +40°C. I can guarantee, that over +5 °C top of that starts to be feeling uncomfortably hot after few seconds. Consumer electronics manufacturers may have lower limits, but at least many high-end smartphones tend to have surface temperatures exceeding these figures on high load conditions. (This info is from GM's OEM certification test specification 25 years ago, that follows regulatory acceptance criteria for such devices as infotainment systems.)
What users need is for Windows to have a single usable tool for managing power settings. Every company adding bloatware that overrides Windows' settings is such a mess.
Another thing is we don't always run the laptops in best performance. we might use them with balanced power settings. a comparison regarding that'd be nice too.
with 2021 ryzen 7 4800hs G14 gtx 1660ti max q, still no worries either with anything packed with this presice beast matchine.
Why not bring the yoga slim 7x along with them
Doesn't fan control equate to Louder fans + Higher keyboard temps + Lesser battery = Back to what was with Intel and Amd before snapdragon? Then what's the point of advantages of Snapdragon?
Putting any laptop into a freezer is a really dumb idea, coz “Condensation”. You could damage the internals with these silly suggestions coz you know fellow geeks are going to try this! Stop it!
You beat me to it.
If they still do that after they saw the result if the cheap cooler positioned under the laptop, than you can't do anything to stop them, i mean they are already have multiple bad ideas in their head, even without that freeze..
Got the cooler base - and saw a 10% increase in performance in CPUZ. A Yoga 7X - just - wow!
We need pc with this chip with normal cooling system
How does that compare to an M1/M2/M3 stuck in the freezer?
MacBooks are rated for 10-35 C as operating temp. Not below 10 C. Warranty will probably not cover using a MacBook in a freezer (~ -20C). Not even in a fridge (~ +2 to +4C).
Just use any portable Mac/PC in a pretty standard room temp. That's how we all are using portable computers. A couple of degrees warmer at summer.
I hope we will not see "all youtubers" test portable computers in a freezer. It's enough.
Never ever put a daily driver in a freezer/fridge.
Isn't setting the laptop to High Performance a bit unrealistic? I know this is a laptop comparison test but make it more realistic by using battery optimized mode and compare it to Macbook would be a real world usage test. I don't mind a bit of a lower performance as long as I can maximize battery life throughout the day.
One thing you did not tell us is how loud the cheaper laptop is with the fan running at full speed! My almost 11 year old 17" i7 laptop drives me crazy with the fan noise when it gets hot! If the fan is too loud, having good performance isn't enough! We need fan noise to be reasonable with high performance!
U r right, in comparison to Apple - XElite has too agressive thermal throttling.
well the iphone phones also cant keep the same frequency under load and drop significantly.test it with apps that use the gpu and cpu 100%. also due to not enough power to power both simultaneously.
Odd. I'm fine with a Cinebench 2024 multi-core score of 800+. Doing all these workaround techniques to squeeze out an extra 7-26% seems unnecessary for a non-workstation laptop.
Thermal pad mod needed
They using copper heatsinks. They should use liquid vapour cooler with the fans to keep the temps low
Are you saying that the two fan+heatsink is insufficient to cool the Vivobook and the Samsung ?(Surface uses single fan+heatsink) Many Intel iGPU laptops make do with the single fan+heatsink, so why do these laptops that are supposed to be much more power efficient require even better cooling solutions ?
@@longdang2681 they can use single fan but they using copper heatsink with no vapour chamber they should use copper vapour chamber cooling
Sounds like ice bars will make a comeback
well maybe there is some 3rd party software that somehow allows to control fan on laptops? even on older Intel i would like to have somethink like that to force mmore cooling... i have dell xps 9570 any ideas?
5:01 -> "Base Clock" is not the same as "Max Frequency".
It is so frustrating - if they are measuring things differently, why even bother with this number - it doesn't mean anything.
test an x elite laptop vs afully maxed out 16 inch m3 max macbook pro
Can you test msi titan 18hx vs M3 MAX please and do it charging and battery performance test
Qualcomm should make mac studio like windows studio pc using 12 arm Core without any power and thermal limit
Desktop variant will shine, especially with proper cooling.
Their Dev kit already exists
Sure...but it's in LAPTOP performance where they can BRAG. ...and market and SELL !! Everyone already expects that a PRO desktop machine will outperform ANY laptop.
Milking these things is going pretty far now, really, a fridge, what is this, 2019 with core i9 macbooks?
VivoBook S 15 (S5507QA) / Geekbench 6.3.0 for Windows AArch64
Best Performance / Fan Full Speed / on battery
Single-Core Score: 2450+
Multi-Core Score: 14400+
And how yer doin, boy? Didya get your ASUS Firmware updates? You sure? Are you sure? Are you absolutely sure about that?
Does the screen good enough and bright enough? I’m considering buying it
@@majordemo582 it is Brighton. Todays gonna be sunny weather and i am takiego it outside witam me. I Kinga want to discover auro-brightness function.
@@majordemo582 I don't know what you are asking here? If you would ask me is it good enough to see clearly - than i would say yes it is. Image quality is pretty high to its size. But if you are asking is it good to see something in a daylight, being outside, on a full sun - than definitly not for you.
This would be insanely confusing for a consumer or admin. That alone makes apple an easier choice
add liquid cooling.
Quiet mode on Galaxy gives more performance.
Buy a thin-and-light ARM processor to have a sleek, cool, long-life laptop.
Add a chunky 3 lbs heatsink with fan to destroy all 3 benefits in a single swoop !!
I hated my Intel 2019 MacBook Pro because I had to set the fan speed to 100% all the time whenever I was screen sharing !!
x86 CPU - use Throttlestop. ARM - put it into a freezer.
The multi-vendor model gives customers choice - the choice to fail.
These chips aren't that more efficient as Intel it seems.
Performance and efficiency are better, still a nice option for windows users, someday there will be an option for Linux users, most likely from Lenovo and Dell.
Throttlestop?
One thing that puzzles me is why the Surface is still not using a Type C connector?
Surface Laptop 7 and Pro 11 have 2 USB-C 40gbps ports that do everything. You can also use the Surface port to keep your USB ports free for other items while charging the laptop like a Macbook Air.
Snapdragon X Elite 🔋💪❤️
Looks like the Windows laptop x-elites lost the battle. Looks like the MacBook Air is still better. I wonder if it is just cheap thermal paste is the problem?
What is SKU?
Stock Keeping Unit. Used for inventory management do designate different products.
It means model number for computing parts and is used to tell between slight variations.
