- There’s something special about this North Texas town. Maybe it’s the history and iconic town square. Maybe it’s the lake right in the middle of town. Or maybe it’s the friendly folks on every corner. Either way, there’s tons of trippin’ to be had in Granbury.
The spirit of Granbury revolves around its historic square where you’ll find lots of restaurants, shops, and bars awaiting eager trippers. Make sure you peak into the Hood County Courthouse which has been beautifully restored and still has a hand-wound clock from the 1800’s sitting in its tower.
Unfortunately, the Nutshell Bakery has permanently closed.
Another mystery in town surrounds the grave of Jesse James in the Granbury Cemetery where it’s rumored the infamous outlaw is buried after faking his death and moving to Granbury to skirt the law.
One famous Texan who’s definitely buried in town is Elizabeth Crockett, the wife of Alamo hero Davy Crockett. You can visit her grave and see a sculpture of her standing on top looking West to await her love coming home from San Antonio at this historic site in the Acton Cemetery. She is so revered that at one point her grave was the smallest state park in Texas.
If you’re a lover of hand-crafted food and you love cheese, then head west of Granbury to Lipan, TX to visit Eagle Mountain Farmhouse Cheese. This small trappist-style operation makes some of the most amazing cheese in Texas. They offer tours and tastings and have many different kinds of cheese, but it’s all gouda! (haha, see what I did there…).
Besides being the alleged spot where John Wilkes Booth worked undercover after assasinating President Lincoln, the Nutshell Bakery also has a sugary cure for your sweet cravings. From giant cookies to homemade pies and cobblers, this is your dessert-fix on the Square.
If you’re looking for a different sort of dining experience, head to Ketzler’s Schnitzel Haus and Bier Garten where you’ll find a quaint restaurant and outdoor patio that makes you feel like you’ve been transported to the motherland. There are some amazing German beers and one of the best, most-authentic schnitzels in Texas. Prost!
If you’re away from the square, or enjoying the lake, then stopping by Stumpy’s is mandatory. This marina serves up some of the best burgers and tacos in town. You can fill up the boat, rent a jet ski, or just sit around in the Texas sun sipping a cold one and feeding the fish. Your choice.
Granbury is amazing in that the entire city revolves around the beautiful Lake Granbury. It’s great for boating, jet-skiing and fishing. But if you aren’t renting a water craft or bringing your own, then you need to head to City Beach. This white-sand beach is blocks from the square and will likely be full of folks doing everything from playing Frisbee to grilling fajitas. There’s also a kayak and SUP board outfitter on site to rent self-powered watercraft.

Ketzler's moved two blocks away into the building formerly occupied by Linda's Southern Kitchen. They've got marvelous German food and is my go-to in D/FW (or near it). Moving into Ketzler's old spot is Fisherman's Corner, which is run by the folks who run Ketzler's.
Love living in Granbury!
Now there is a restaurant you and I agree on! I have traveled to and had diner many times. The german food is insane good! And I am 85 miles way. The homemade pretzels and cheese with cold beer for apetizer are to die for!
This video must have been shot a couple years ago because Ketzler’s has moved down the square and used the old place to open up a seafood restaurant. Ketzler’s food is still great but losing the beer garden really changed the atmosphere. Does not feel like your in Germany any more. But, cannot blame them, the food is so good they had to find a bigger place.
I think these are just now being released on RUclips and they were made a while back.
Chet, you have been responsible for my visiting many parts of Texas that I would have not otherwise visited. I thought the Nutt House Hotel would be a nice overnight stop while visiting my daughter in McKinney. I googled it, and unfortunately, I learn that it recently burned in a fire.
Granbury has the best, bar none, catfish. Can't remember the name, but boy was it good!!! Well, worth the search.
Oh man. I wish you remembered the name. I love catfish.
Absolutely LOVE Daytripper!!!❤ Granbury also has one of the last drive in movies The Brazos Drive In.
Love the show!! Keep bringing it!!!
With everything going on in Granbury I would have to give this tour 10 stars. And gotta visit here soon ❤
I had a very dear friend that was the Sheriff in Lipan. He passed away many years ago

I’m From Houston Tx And These Small Country Texas Towns Look Like Ants 🐜 To Me 😂
If you think you got the full reverb you need to be right under that bell, or as a friend did lean against that bell just as it totals. I died laughing and him, he wanted to kill me at the the time
Yup, i live it everyday.
Have you done Galveston yet?
I live in Granbury
What town or city in Texas that you haven't been yet?
Did you see the driver of the jet ski for that illegal display of operation?
This must have been shot years ago, I live in Granbury, the nut house hotel is not a hotel anymore just an old abandoned building after all the fires that people have set off there these past few years. Ketzler’s also moved on the square where a place called Linda’s used to be. Great video 👍🏼
They drove stolen cars. Was it across the street from the bank they were casing?
I would not swim in the lake lol 🤢
It is so nasty
The Nutt House hotel burned down. Ketzler’s moved. Stumpy’s…really? With so many GOOD restaurants in Granbury, you went to Stumpy’s? And a cheese shop in Lipan? Lipan is twenty minutes away. Sorry Chet, this one is a dud.
I realize I sound like wet blanket but as much as I enjoy seeing all the places you take us with you, the theatrics are a bit much. Well, not just a bit much, but a lot much. 😒
For example?
