Appreciate you taking the time to do an analysis of this show. While the DC animated universe has it's ups and downs, this series has always been a highlight. Great review, and eagerly awaiting the follow-up.
Cannot understand the hate that this series has received in later seasons. This show fills me with such happiness, like a comfortable pair of slippers. Season 4 has been so good at story-telling, and cramming so much in a 23 min. time span.
Season 3 had a lot of catching-up to do, after the show was unjustly cancelled. It still has it's edge. Even Season 2 gets a lot of flack and I thought that was one of their best.
@@kirasutton1973 Invasion was really good, plus I loved that they reinvented a number of secondary characters from the old Superfriends cartoon for the 'Runaways' episode. Young Justice is amazing...the newer seasons are definitely a step down. One core criticism I have is they're trying to do too much with too many characters for a weekly 30 minute show.
I watched season one when it came out as a small child and loved it, I only recently found out that it had been brought back, I then rewatched the first season and 2-4, upon completing the show I can definitively say that it is truly a masterpiece
I watched season one with my dad when it was coming out as a kid, some of my best memories with him. Obviously I loved the show. Then an entire DECADE later I found out it was on HBO max and was almost nervous to watch it, because I was afraid it wouldn’t be as good as I remember. Turned out it was even better
The whole nightwing arc is what I wanted, them being a team once again. Idk why they decided to give all of them their own arc with a bunch of side arcs that were pointless. I did like beastboy side arc. But after SP "death" pacing just slowed down.

Really looking forward to your thoughts on season 2, as that’s the one I struggle to enjoy the most. There are individual episodes I do enjoy, but overall it felt lukewarm compared to season 1. Hope you’re enjoying season 4 though, Leo!
I feel like season two of YJ hit the same problems as LoK in that the writers didn’t think they would get another season so they had to make it self contained and not leave as many open threads for future seasons.
I just finished seasons 3 and 4 and I'm really disappointed tbh. It's still cool to have them actually have queer characters in their story though, I can always appreciate that at least
Season 1 was my favourite dc animated.... anything actually. Season 2,3,4 is what ruined it overall. I think the 5 year timeskip was the beginning of the end of the show. It's sad really.
I can only dream to create character like this for my own stories. The way they not only interact with eachother but with their thoughts and feeling makes them more than just characters in a cartoon but people that could realistically exist in a superhero setting. They are treated as if they are in a war on a lower scale and that presents itself beautifully.
Damn, this episode hit me in such a deep place with the analysis of shame and self defense. What excellent timing. Your videos are so helpful to my life. Thank you.
The first couple seasons were pretty good, with some great episodes and subtly woven story lines... Then season 3 happened... And then Phantoms. That's when subtly went out the window and subtext became text delivered like a sledgehammer.
My issue is that season 3 could've been great, but I feel like there had to be some kind of manipulation behind the scenes that the writing room had to deal with. It felt so tonally confused, with the way that halo would violently die every other episode where at the same time they'd do super dumbed down versions of the same themes from previous seasons. I think that the writers wanted to tell a more mature story but were stopped from doing so. I think that they honestly wanted to move on from young justice and write another story in the same universe but were forced to deal with the restrictions of a kid/young adult friendly show Season 4 is a bit better but I still think it suffers from the same problems. It's just hard to stay invested in the characters when it feels like the show doesn't have the ability to give them the proper time needed
I know Implicitly might not read this, but if they do, thank you. Getting to confirm that these childhood shows did have deeper meaning and in exploring their greater meaning seeing how profoundly they can impact us. Its a great experience and helps me with healing and growing, plus entertaining as hell.
I can in some way appreciate what they’re trying to do in the newer seasons but it’s too many new characters and plot lines for me to follow. While I can’t speak for everyone I feel like most of the viewers wanted the new seasons to focus on the original characters. My favorite moment has to be when night wing had a fever dream mid mission, it felt so nostalgic and exactly what I was hoping the new seasons would be. Just seems like we’re presented with new things and have to accept it with little to no explanation.
An excellent take on young Justice season 1. This season got the drama of the characters and why they pulled together as a team. I am sure that the show will continue that strong writing. Season 2--4: our heroes lie to each other with no consequences , get lost in numerous side plots with new characters that don’t have the same impact, Me:Crap.
@@ethanlivemere1162 Not them, but my go-to example is the fake-out with Wally in Season 3. After a whole season of "M'gann needs to stop messing with her friends' brains even if she thinks she has a good reason to do so", we get an episode where she uses her and Artemis' memories of Wally to make Artemis think Wally's spirit told her to move on.
@@ethanlivemere1162 Sure! 1)When season 2 ended, and the secret that artemis was not dead and Aqualad was undercover, Superboy was the only member of the original team who showed Anger towards Nightwing and the other conspirators. This admittedly was excusable IF IT WAS the only time the team had done something like this. But the lack of emotions from the other members does the drama less...impactful and this will ultimately get worse from a writing standpoint. 2)The Batman Inc conspiracy. Not only does none of the outsiders or the Young Justice team members who weren't in on the collusion not shown long-term distrust of the guilty parties, Batman Inc isn't even punished. Batman is let back into the league by Black Lightening for no real good reason. superboy gets engaged to Meghan despite the fact that she LIED to him and the team. Recall that even amongst Batman Inc, there WERE heroes who had no idea that Batman Inc, was playing both sides. We get no scenes where Green Arrow and other Batman Inc members who were kept in the dark angrily react to what was manipulation. At least in the comic JLA Babel when Batman's contingency plans were revealed, the JLA members DISTRUSTED Batman and voted him out. Even Superman cast a vote against him. What is even worse is that many of the inside scope of Batman Inc were those from season 2 who ALREADY LIED to their fellow team members, but none of them own up to their mistakes. As Black Lightening said to Batman: "You aren't sorry." 3)Wally West. In what was honestly a sickening decision, Zatanna, Rocket, and Meghan (who has already deceived her peers with batman Inc), trick Artemis into thinking she was seeing wally's spirit. This would be justified if Artemis was suicidal, except this isnt the right way. You dont make some play quiji board to see a loved one. none of the parties feel guilt over their act and why should they? The show makes it clear that what they did was right-except not really. 4)Tara. The same applies here. The team kept crucial information away from the team again and hoped for the best outcome-when there was great chances for it to go wrong. Esepcially when it means the outsiders will resent the older heroes for doing so. Why didnt they use brion as a way to reform tara? They could him that : "Hey your sis is taking orders from the bad guys. But we think there is a chance. We know you are close with her and she cares for you. Talk to her, spend time with her, and ease her through. We think this is where your training is most helpful." Nope, they keep him and the others in the dark. And since this number 3 manipualtion/lying by the heroes agaisnt the outsiders, why arent the outsiders even more angry?
@@bradhorowitz2765 The first one I think is a bad example. Just because we don't see people be angry at him doesn't mean there are no consequences (even then, Superboy isn't the only one, La'gaan is also angry and though Wally isn't angry at the secrets per se, he does get angry at Nightwing). The consequences of it being kept a secret are some of the main plot points. Meghan frying Kaldur's brain, everyone wanting revenge on Kaldur for killing Artemis, leading to interference from Sportsmaster and Cheshire, recklessly dangerous behavior towards Kaldur by La'gaan even before he killed Artemis, and by Blue Beetle when the scarab takes control.
@@ethanlivemere1162 what i mean by consequences is the relationship changes. Notice that lagoon boy and superboy are the only ones who question the lie and angrily respond to it. Meghan doesn't, beast boy dosnt, etc. Now I see this a minor compared to what happens in season 3 and 4; the heroes (off screen in my mind) did understand it and realized the heroes weren't going too far. Season 2 i think did the whole "betrayal/conspiracy" story much better than what was too come. In contrast season3/4 is where consequences dont actully matter. .

Watching how characters change the way they interact with, and deal with death, evolve is heartbreaking, especially in season four (those who have seen the season know what I'm talking about).

I’ve enjoyed Phantoms 4-episode character chunk approach to its sub stories for the Greater Legion and Zod storyline. It’s def clunky but Orphan/Oracle, that damn yellow bus, Cheshire, Beast Boy and Dr Fate have been highlights to see expanded on. Forager has always been a little irksome but I can appreciate them reciting Shakespeare.
My only problem with your videos is that they can't come fast enough. In all seriousness, though, take your time with these and focus on both the quality, AND your mental health, above all else. Trust me, it's INCREDIBLY easy to lose motivation, BUT it's also nothing to be ashamed of!
Growing up as a kid, when I watched superhero shows, the only thing that struck out to me was their power and their abilities.
I grew up in that era and was never proud of that hot-mess of a show. Plus it was great to see a YJ version of Static. Phil LaMarr & Brighton James are great voice actors.
@No. 1 Spidey-Fan "timeskip this timeskip that," why don't you timeskip to when you cetch some bitches
@No. 1 Spidey-Fan I want too see robin becoming nightwing I don't want to see dick wearing the robin suit forever so having time skip make since
The Vandal Savage origin part stands on its own as one the most intriguing stories ever animated for TV.
Not a perfect show (especially in later seasons). But some incredible highs through characterizations and development along with fantastic storylines
this narrative that season 3 and 4 are not good is just not really true? people just have a lot of nostalgia for the early two seasons but seasons 3 and 4 are just as good as 1 and 2
@@nh0522 counterpoint, Megan and Kon ended up together even when she knowingly fucked with his mind knowing how he felt about mind control and telepathy
@@chronodemon8 they set them up being together since season one
@@yarc9 so? It's still shit writing. Them ending up together means no one intervened to shut that shit down. Megan has literally shown she's perfectly fine being a abuser.
They’re not bro it’s too political and they stay trying to push their agendas
To be continued just made my day! I love this show so much, I can’t get enough of it honestly. I’m so excited to see all your analysis!
watching the whole thing again because of intense nostalgia when I first saw it aged 10 and I've got to say season 1 was exceptional. It was so good and it is STILL good. The jokes hit even harder, the nuances are better picked up and the pain about Wally hits doubly which is why can they please bring him back somehow 😔 can we finally see my man again because he has haunted me all these yearsssss lol
Young Justice is amazing...the newer seasons are definitely a step down. One core criticism I have is they're trying to do too much with too many characters for a weekly 30 minute show.
I agree, while I do still enjoy the show it just seems like its losing focus
This is easily one of my favorite television shows, ever. So glad you’re covering it. Maybe you’ll cover my other favorite next. It’s real jazzy.
Bebop??
But after SP "death" pacing just slowed down.
i feel it would have been better if they cut down all their arcs by about one episode then having the final arc about them as a team
But was that really nightwing arc it felt like he was just there is that it for him?
I feel like you can just watch mars arc, rocket arc and nightwing arc then call it a day. The rest is kinda unimportant.
I remember not liking the show particularly as a kid, but rewatching it now has been amazing.
Season 1 and 2 of YJ reminds me so much of Agents of SHIELD. I like how it was more of a spy themed show rather than the typical superhero show
I loved the first 2 seasons so much especially the first
I genuinely hope this show gets a fifth season
It will. Or else!
I genuinely hope it's good though, i watched Season 4 (1/2, still haven't watched 2/2) and it was really disappointing, i won't even talk about Season 3
@@Enja___ What was wrong with season 3?? I haven't finished season 4 but so far yeah I do think it's weaker than the others
@@Enja___ I genuinely don’t understand the season 3 hate. Its literally my favorite season. It is straight up so compelling. I mean The League and Team are literally losing the war so badly the Batfamily has to take matters into their own hands. Its so good.
@@brettvonklock3206 Oh I like that part but the whole markovia kids storyline was very dumb adaptation for Terra and Halo was just dumb with the motherbox ting
I've been watching Young Justice Season 4 but this video makes me want to go back and watch S1 again
Started going woke in the later seasons.
Really looking forward to your thoughts on season 2, as that’s the one I struggle to enjoy the most. There are individual episodes I do enjoy, but overall it felt lukewarm compared to season 1.
Hope you’re enjoying season 4 though, Leo!
I feel like season two of YJ hit the same problems as LoK in that the writers didn’t think they would get another season so they had to make it self contained and not leave as many open threads for future seasons.
had to stop in the middle of this video only because it made me want to go rewatch the whole show immediately
I just finished seasons 3 and 4 and I'm really disappointed tbh. It's still cool to have them actually have queer characters in their story though, I can always appreciate that at least
I'M SO GLAD YOU ARE COVERING THIS SERIES, IT'S SUCH AN AMAZING SHOW AND THE FACT THAT IT'S STILL GOING JUST GOES TO SHOW THE LOVE FOR IT
Greg Weismen never misses. From Young Justice to Spectacular Spider-Man to W.I.T.C.H. to Gargoyles.
Best animation showrunner for 3 decades!
and the first season of rebels! any time i see his name on something i immediately think i should watch it.
I know Greg as well! Super cool dude
Season 1 was my favourite dc animated.... anything actually. Season 2,3,4 is what ruined it overall.
I think the 5 year timeskip was the beginning of the end of the show. It's sad really.
Absolutely. I so wish we could get an "alternate" take from the end of season 1 onward.
honestly this video has me whelmed trout and feeling the aster wishing we could get another series this good
They should have continued this show with animated Young Justice movies, and an Outsiders spinoff shows.
These videos legitimately help me more than my meds do. Idk why, but this calms my anxiety. Thank you
I can only dream to create character like this for my own stories.
Finally, someone else points this out
My issue is that season 3 could've been great, but I feel like there had to be some kind of manipulation behind the scenes that the writing room had to deal with. It felt so tonally confused, with the way that halo would violently die every other episode where at the same time they'd do super dumbed down versions of the same themes from previous seasons. I think that the writers wanted to tell a more mature story but were stopped from doing so. I think that they honestly wanted to move on from young justice and write another story in the same universe but were forced to deal with the restrictions of a kid/young adult friendly show
Season 4 is a bit better but I still think it suffers from the same problems. It's just hard to stay invested in the characters when it feels like the show doesn't have the ability to give them the proper time needed
Most of the videos you make I walk away from with goosebumps and tears, thank you.
I really want a spin-off on the 5 years between s1 and s2
Season 1 is the greatest when ever I rewatch it I always say this was a good episode
Every episode in season 1 is 9 or 10/10
An excellent take on young Justice season 1. This season got the drama of the characters and why they pulled together as a team. I am sure that the show will continue that strong writing.
Season 2--4: our heroes lie to each other with no consequences , get lost in numerous side plots with new characters that don’t have the same impact,
Me:Crap.
No consequences? Can you give an example?
In contrast season3/4 is where consequences dont actully matter. .
Young Justice was so completely unexpected, a superhero teen show that actually deals with the trauma of the burden of responsibility.
Another fantastic video, seriously this man should get more subs.
Thank you for reminding why I love this show. Watching the Season 4 finale was so good. Hope there is a season 5
Young justice season 1 was truly Legendary ‼️
I'm so excited for the next video!! This video is absolutely beautiful!! You put these together so perfectly and wonderfully!!
ngl for a cartoon thinking for kids and then soon realizes that its for teens and young adults this show was a roller coaster of emotions.
I love the way the characters deal with grief, especially as it changes with the characters throughout the seasons. Watching how characters change the way they interact with, and deal with death, evolve is heartbreaking, especially in season four (those who have seen the season know what I'm talking about).
I love RUclipsrs like you cause the depth you guys go in is honestly soul shaking
This and avatar are my favorite shows of all time it’s just so good and the characters are relatable
Can’t wait for part 2!!
This was beyond brilliant, you actually showed me how to salvage my relationship and improve myself. Thank you
I think the maturity of the show is highlighted most in the shifting of Oracle’s origin. It’s beautiful
Oracle's injury origin was awful in the most recent season. Regardless of morals, superheros would not cripple themselves to stop someone from killing a villain like that
great video!! soundtrack was fantastic, and it taught me a little about why i love this season so much!
Binged it all in a week last week and I’ve been so empty since. But it’s motivated me to go out and get back into comics. Idk how I’ll balance that with LNs and VNs but we’ll see. Zatana best girl
I’ve been writing my own young justice analysis for like a year now and you hit a lot of the same points I do. Feeling kinda stupid now.
Not that your stupid I loved this analysis!
Phenomenal video dude, loved the way you transitioned the dialogue into the scenes. Awesome job!
Unpopular opinion. Young justice peaked in season 1
based.
And to think they almost scrapped the whole show. Thank God for the fans.
Seeing how I just started rewatching the show from season one last week and getting it recommended is great
They are watching us🤫
This was my first DC animated show I watched and I started watching Batman the animated series yesterday.
I love YJ and it introduced me to so many Charakters
I will never understand the reason they made such huge timeskips between seasons
The first season was so enjoyable. Season 2 was just ok but it’s finale was phenomenal. And then season 3 just went down the crapper. They took everything that was good about the first two seasons and threw it all away.
This video has me feeling the aster.
Great analysis! Every video and every channel that talks about “Young Justice” is a blessing for the fans.
I’m really glad to hear you’ll be making a series of videos covering this masterpiece and will be watching.
Such a precisely well written show. Hope we get more seasons after season 4.
This is an amazing show, and even if a think the next seasons suffer from a weird pacing, i love them all, i love this show.
I love the complicated explanation you give for an animated show lol. There's a couple of channels that do this well, one being yours. Great vid.
it's also pretty gay, which made me cry. Kaldur was my 2D highschool crush aaand when I finally saw him in a relationship with another man, i burst out into fckin tears. i felt represented. it was so surreal
I skip every dialogue any forager has. I tried but I can’t hear it any longer
But after going some life shit in the last 2 years, you realize the power they have breeds more insecurities about who they are and how to best utilize their powers and how they fit in with the people around them.
Shame is the new Trauma!!!! I am so glad that you are doing Young Justice!
It's gonna be interesting to see you talk about season 2, since I see so many people have very..... differing opinions about it.
I personally really liked season 2 as a kid, and now I still think it's like a 7/10. Maybe that's just the Blue Beetle bias in me speaking lol
I love how you focused on specifically the first season, which in my opinion was the best
Your videos are really beautiful and thoughtful and not only highlight the forethought of the art you are analysing but also show you put in alot of care into what you are doing its very enjoyable.
The exact reason I believe that's the best animated since 92's BTAS. I am so sad that there won't be a fifth season
Glad even tho I’m not able to experience this show for the first time anymore I can still relive the nostalgia with your content
I have been waiting for a video into this show for so long!!! Thank you so much!
So glad to see video essays at last about one of my favourite shows of all time

At I love this show, the world the characters and the story are so damn good! This universe is so big and it’s just makes me smile! I need to rewatch this show.
Cool analysis! More people need to talk about this gem of a show
I love the music selection of this channel it just makes every video an experience
Being a hero is a hard life.
Such an amazing analysis on such an amazing show that many people watch and discuss to this day. I’m really looking forward to your analysis of the other seasons.
It will always be my favorite show
Season 1 of the Young Justice is absolutely fantastic. While I'm not a fan of the direction of the show after the second season, I still have so much love for that first season.
This was brilliant. Thank you!
I always kinda understood Superman’s feelings toward Superboy- I mean it’s literally a younger clone of him. I would feel super weirded out if someone made smth like that from my dna without my permission or even knowledge. Don’t get me wrong Connor is a good character I am just understanding of why Superman is uncomfortable around him.
This was wonderful! And it is quite crazy to me that you shared this and the current season is grappling with many of these same issues. Young Justice is such a deep show I quickly felt this is no longer (just) for kids and young adults we are becoming (assuming many fans were roughly teens when this show began) are still able to relate very deeply to it.
Great video honestly!
Crazy you say mention the next season seconds after I write my comment, #LetTheWholeVideoFinish 🤣
The only mistake they made in the early parts was killing off Wally, truly the best character that they didn’t need to get rid of
bro words can’t describe how much i love this show
