I think you guys made the right choice not naming and shaming. Could you imagine the controversy. At least now you're able to build more of the truck yourselves
I think finishing it yourself will be the best decision ever! It is a fun process and you learn so much about your mog! It is sad that the company didn't deliver to your expectation. But now it will become your box! You have build it instead of bought it! That is so much more awesome!
Shame to see that people are not up to their word but you guys are as positive as ever. Let's be honest this won't stop you from building an amazing rig and living and driving the hell out of it!
5 min google search , with maps , found the box builders , I won’t be going there for my project. Thanks for the great insight into first time camper building .
Good on you guys, it really is hard to get good help and unfortunately it doesn’t matter how much you spend there are still those kind of businesses around which sucks. Love that your honesty comes out in your videos and that your not sugar coating anything it’s great to see and your doing such a great job with the mog. Love watching the vids iv always had a soft spot for the mogs. Thanks again!

When you are on a tight budget and give yourself tight time constraints, delays are inevitable unfortunately. I could still function and use machinery at work depending on the severity of the episode but there is no way I would be working on you mog at that height either. It's hard to appreciate unless you have experienced it. Keep up the great work, it is fascinating to watch. You're doing a great job!
Been following you guys for a while now. Love your channel and love watching the build of the Unimog. Its so heartbreaking being screwed over by people/companies and believe as a community naming and shaming will help others not experience this or at least it will make the person/company pull their head in and (hopefully) rectify the issues risen :)
I feel your pain with the lack of communication. We bought a camper and, they needed to do some work on the motor for the slide out. It took 5 months, summer came and went, we could not do any camping. We did get the camper back and are finally enjoying camping.
Sorry to hear about the bad experience your both had with the box build!! Hopefully the remainder of the build goes a lot better for you both. Thanks for the videos and keep up the great videos:) Cheers, Matt.
Really glad you have Bowser back so you can crack on building it like you were a few months back! Happy and cheerful from this point forward and really interested to see Bowser have more bits done to it, the box interior will be so good to see complete soon!😀 keep up the good work!😁
Top attitude team, I can relate to the delayed time frames with a build it is extremely frustrating being mucked around not to mention the money being put in. Great approach though learning is all part of the journey. All the best!
I saw a very similar build today in my area. Followed for about 20min .... Good luck travelling in that , couldn't think of anything worse unless wanting to attract attention. Hight , body roll and uncomfortably. Need some kind off luxury to relax in
Bugger, that blows. But you more than likely will be able to fix all that is sub standard with the box build, when you finish the build. The end result will make all the frustrations seem a distant memory in the rear vision mirror!!! Can't wait to see progress on the build!!
Good effort at controlling your frustration and getting on with it. I knew something was up when the posts went quiet for so long. You guys are great, so keep doing what your doing and finish this Mog. Where all behind you :-)

With regards to your conduit dilemma my suggestion is that you use Poly Eiger 4mm 3.6m Yellow Poly Cable Feeder available at Bunnings for around $5 . Attach the cable to one end of the poly cable feeder and secure it with electrical tape.
I’m honestly surprised you guys didn’t name and shame, it sounds like you’ve let that business off the hook although I also understand why you haven’t. I actually don’t think you seemed THAT ticked off in the last video Chris and knowing what we know now, I’m surprised you didn’t come across angrier, I’d have been ropable. The box is looking awesome and I have no doubt you guys will make it look amazing. Honestly can’t wait for the interior build!
Please use Epoxy to fix the seams (as others have also suggested). The cost and time are a bit more but well worth the decades of leak free living. With a rubber membrane between shell and trim added in strength and leak protection will be something you never need to worry about. Silicone is a temporary fix and will need to be redone in a few years time as well as offering no added strength to the seams (with the leaks already there I would not trust the rest of workmanship personally). Love the angle on front of box it will make sliding trees over top so much easier LOL. Considering most builds take twice the projected to complete your's is coming along amazingly well. Smile and enjoy what you have accomplished so far :)
Thanks fir keepin it so positive you two are an example of good people! No one would have thought bad if you took legal action to recover losses and name and shame never helps anyone so huge respect ✊
Hey, so sad you were mucked around so much and I would be really pissed!! but I love your attitude, what's done is done just bury it and move on. Looking forward to watching the internal fit out. On another note, what are your plans once your fully mobile again. Covid will no doubt be a factor but which direction are thinking of heading. We are in another shut down currently here in Vic as the wee germ is on the march again, dreaming of heading WA way soon. Keep up the good work and yes, I now allow the adds to play.
Thank you so much Michael! We still have a lot to see around Australia - SA, NT and TNQ. We would love to do the Canning Stock Route as well once it reopens. After that, who knows, it will definitely depend where the world is at. Sorry to hear about this new lockdown in VIC! Hope it doesn't spread out and ends with good news.
on running your string here in Texas they take masking tape ball it up after tieing it to the string and use air pressure to run it through the conduit when running electrical
Great video and happy to be up to date and see your baby back home with you guys qhere it'll actually get worked on lol! At the end of the day if you want something done you gotta diy 🤟🤟 Can't wait for the next video!
With the conduits and running string. U could use brickies twine or cord tied to a sandwich/part of a vegie bag. Poke the bag in 1 way and use a vacumn to suck the bag to the hole ur wanting it to connect to👍 Looks great, sucks paying good money on poor work. Keep positive 🙏
Couple things: How is that box glued together BEFORE you ad the aluminum? It seams like the only thing that is giving you structural strength is the VERY small bonding area of the actual fiberglass skin. I would add the aluminum angles asap! You probably also want to check if your glue needs some kind of primer to make it stick. To prevent stress cracking in the FRP Skin, I would highly recommend to apply a relieve radius in the sharp corners (entry door). This can be done with 8mm-12mm drill bit in the corner. Cheers and happy Unimoging!!!!
Thank you for reaching out! We appreciate having experts from Canada following along. Our supplier has been using HB Fuller Tool Box Original MS Adhesive & Sealant. This week we have used the same product to add the aluminium trimming on the edges of the box. We have also already installed our aluminium extrusions around the door so we won't be able to apply this relieve radius unfortunately?!
Make sure your adhesive sealer works with aluminum, also scuff and degrees the alloy trim and fiber glass panels where the trim and sealer run, you can get proper prep material or use 3m scotch bright pads and isopropyl alcohol to scuff and help the sealer bite.... just don’t skimp on the adhesive sealer, it’s better to put too much and have to wipe off the excess then have a void and then a leak 👍
Something to remember if you get a flat battery in a Mog they a surprisingly easy to clutch start in 4 or 5 gear On flat surface 2 people can push them and you only have to have 1or2 revolutions of the wheels to start them . Or park on a decline Many years ago I went on deployment in the reserve’s for a weekend and my MOG had a new battery that had dead cells so we push started it all weekend
Good on ya! The skills you two are learning now may help you in the future with this beast. How about a, “If you need a box built, stay away from (fill in the blank) city.” No since in sending the wrath of web on them but a bit of caution to others that follow your channel because of this build.
Well done in trying conditions. This is why you try and do it all yourself, so you have control of the project. Looks great by the way. You've done a lot of planning which is 'key'. I'm interested to see how you mount shelves and fixture to this product. If that makes sense then I'd like to rebuild my box out of this product. Cheers Marty from Perth
Well you really should try flex seal the really good product for good with your homemade RV so try flex seal you'll like it I do believe either find that on Amazon or maybe in your hardware store
It is so obvious that the supplier of your habitation box doesn't have much competition for his business based on the situation you have described, and probably the others who are in that business are not too competitive either. It also seems that the supplier was in over his head trying to complete the work you provided and was looking for a way out. There is room for a new supplier in that market there, one who can price it right, do the job right and finish it on time. A little bit of customer service and goodwill goes a long way. It was a wise decision not to name and shame, you probably would have started to receive letters from an under occupied avaricious lawyer. Keep slugging away! Greetings from Canada.
@@pablomax3045 I have been looking into pricing for a similar box and I can't even get close to this (more than double) so maybe the reason for poor workmanship. Agreed that if he makes a quote he should stick to it but maybe he underquoted in error and then when you have other projects that you are going to make money on it is hard to do a good job when you know you are losing money.
Yeah, good luck with Australian consumer law. They can only advise what should be done and if the business refuses to comply then you have to end up taking them to court. They will find a way to weazel out of any form of compensation. Even as far as declaring their business bankrupt. I've been there before. Rules and regulations are only followed by honest operators, which clearly this business isn't.
Don't go cheap on the wiring and switches use good quality Marine gear and marine wire (tinned copper), if you use double insulated you will find it easy enough to just push it down the conduit especially if you put a leading bend in it to go around the corner. Marine solar panels will be your best bet as well. For any inside Led lighting you will want warm white colour to soften those bright walls, believe me it will help a great deal. Don’t go to expensive on a battery bank as you can carry a lot of battery weight on that vehicle, new technology batteries (graphene aluminium ion) are coming to market in the next couple of years that will be cheaper and better than Lithium. Feel free to message me if you want to chat about any of the electrics.
If you need to run string through a conduit, tie a bit of plastic bag on a light string and blow it through with an air gun. It will navigate all sorts of twist and turns and even junctions if you block of the other ends.
Completely understand your anger and disappointment as it's your house that we are talking about. I would be pissed and besides my self if some started to miss with my house
Interesting to hear how the box was designed and built. How will you mount equipment to the box? Can you just drill/ screw into it? Do you need to reinforce it with brackets or backing plates?
Wow, that finish is apalling. Then hearing the box builder say, come and get it unfinished, that is just unprofessional. I think you’re taking it rather well!
Hi - well............ talking about naming and shaming - I'm Rob - I was really harsh in my comments on your last vid... it wasn't meant to be mean... I just so want you both to be recognised and be successful as you work so hard and are doing something so unique. The story might not be following the script you intended. You obviously research and plan things in great detail.... but in a weird way we all love to watch a good drama ... so I still hope you will get your 5m views ... you so deserve it.... and apologies again
The easiest way NOW to get your string through the conduit is with an air hose with gun nozzle & a small round item with the string tied to it & just blow it through also you should have sacrifice 20 to 50mm & made a chassis for your camper box & built it on the ground & then bolt it to your tray live & learn that's what life is about your camper is looking good CHEERS GUYS.
Wow that structural foam / wall board is cool stuff. Can it effectively be cut with skill saws and common shop tools with out splintering? How is its puncture resistance? I live in the Northwestern US and tree limbs are going to get clipped in a tall rig. I can see myself using this in future projects. Thanks for the insight. As for the water leaks, I would think getting the foam to seal water tight by itself is reach. The aluminum edging your installing will offer a sealing surface as well as a hard edge to protect the box corners from trail damage. Perhaps the real lesson here is, no one has the passion for your project that you do. If you have to talk someone into doing it they aren’t the source for you. Perhaps the better result would be to have the panels water jet cut to your drawings and then assemble yourself.
Hi Andy! You will see on next week's episode Chris cutting the panels with a plunge saw 👍 It's an easy material to work with! He will also do more tests with our offcuts to show the strength, it should definitely be puncture free.
Sorry to hear about the poor customer service and run-around you got from the truck box manufacture, must have been so frustrating and lack of respect for your time. I believe 'what goes around, comes around' and that guy will get his some day. Keep making these great videos and staying positive; I enjoy following your travels and taking us along on your journey.
Super disappointed for you both we can see how much it has taken a toll on you. Great to see though that your taking control of your project, I am sure you will be amazed with what you can do with your own two hands ( that includes google) all the best guys looking forward to the continuation of the build
What was the reason for not using the same 40mm composite panel on the floor? Is it because composite panel can't be secured to the frame without screws/bolts tearing through it? Or some other reason?
Hey Chris. You could have easily built that box yourself, and saved yourself the headaches. As far as using silicone, DON'T USE IT!!!!!. Use any high quality adhesive sealant that does not contain silicone. A good product is 3M #4200. (It also comes in "fast-cure" type). Do NOT use epoxy, the seams will crack. Good luck
Hey, how did it go finally with these panels for the walls and ceilings, plus aluminium trim. Did they survive rough roads ? Not too many cracks and leaks ? You're happy with this way of building a box ? Would you recommend this method ? I'm about to start building a box for a Pinzgauer here in Switzerland, thanks for your input.
Hi Hugues if you watch our travel vlogs this year you can see we have been to all kind of rough terrain and haven't had any issues 👍 all the best with your project!
@@TheOutFit thanks a lot for the feed-back, just one last question, i've checked your videos before and after this one and I cannot see how the cabin was attached to your Unimog frame, so basically the white XPS FRP panels for the walls, how are they secured to the frame ?

I bet you are relieved! Really looking forward to seeing your next instalments. Good luck with it all 👍
👍👍 for all the hard work
great job !
Thanks for being part of the live chat! Havw a great weekend 👍
The camper looks great. I don't see the elevator...:) Keep going guys, you are going great and tackling such a big thing as first timers #kudos.
With the conduits and running string. U could use brickies twine or cord tied to a sandwich/part of a vegie bag. Poke the bag in 1 way and use a vacumn to suck the bag to the hole ur wanting it to connect to👍
Looks great, sucks paying good money on poor work.
Well done
That must be exciting, it looks absolutely mint.
Something to remember if you get a flat battery in a Mog they a surprisingly easy to clutch start in 4 or 5 gear
On flat surface 2 people can push them and you only have to have 1or2 revolutions of the wheels to start them . Or park on a decline
Many years ago I went on deployment in the reserve’s for a weekend and my MOG had a new battery that had dead cells so we push started it all weekend
Cheers Barry! That's good to know! I'll make sure Ange does the pushing
@@TheOutFit LOL
Cheers
Marty from Perth
Well you really should try flex seal the really good product for good with your homemade RV so try flex seal you'll like it I do believe either find that on Amazon or maybe in your hardware store
HI Guys I love the box and the idea of a lightweight frameless skin. are you able to let me know where you got this done? ta
If you are in Perth there is a new company we heard great things about called Transition Composite Panels 👍
He ripped you off...
Take him under Australian consumer law. You’ll probably win & get awarded a percentage of your money back.
Yeah, I'd also not take it lying down. Letting it go also only help ensure that tradesman gets a screw the next fellow.
@@derekbeasley no excuse for crap workmanship. Just shows he is not a man who keeps his word.
@@pablomax3045 Yeah and one shit job can lose you 100s of future customers
Love IT!!
Do you need to reinforce it with brackets or backing plates?
if you want to run a string after, use compress air, you will be surprise how easy it is.
Wow, that finish is apalling. Then hearing the box builder say, come and get it unfinished, that is just unprofessional. I think you’re taking it rather well!
Yeah, balls to the piety, save other folk from having the same problem!
Hi, Great vid . just curious if you have the dimensions for your build?
Surprised you didn't use the space over the cab for storage ??
Yes, the other problem is that the box will twist when off road so clearance under an over-cab will change.
We will have a roof rack with a storage box 👍
Use air to blow a light string through the conduit. Easy peasy
You guys are a “class act”. Sorry you guys were screwed by the vendor. I would definitely publish all the facts on FB so others don’t get screwed.
We will certainly put a Google review.
13:30 What is Ange saying? Total cost of what?
Hey guys. Mind if I ask how much rego is for the mog? Insurance? Roughs are fine just trying to do some quick maths on if I could justify a mog
Super disappointed for you both we can see how much it has taken a toll on you. Great to see though that your taking control of your project, I am sure you will be amazed with what you can do with your own two hands ( that includes google) all the best guys looking forward to the continuation of the build
Who is your box supplier? I can't find the xps sandwiched on the internet.
