      @Hughes,
      2003, after a devastating diagnosis, we built our ExpeditionVehicle on a 1996 Ford CF8000 commercial truck.
      Cummins 8.3 mechanical (zero computers), Allison 3060 automatic.
      Within a week -- while selling everything -- we completed our conversion and hit the road from Oregon with the vague goal of 'south'.
      .
      Twenty-four months twenty-four thousand miles around South America.
      Alaska, Panama, all over North and Central America.
      Summers up rough logger tracks to remote mountain lakes.
      Winters on isolated Baja beaches.
      Over two decades full-time live-aboard.
      And none of our caravan chums have factory RecreateVehicles.

    I've spend hour, weeks and month planning the passthrough. Then came to the understanding the main use case voids the complex way it is built. For me the main use case is emergency climbing into the cab and driving away. I've heard some other owners complain about the connection allows a noisy travel that does not have to be. So I decide now since the rear of the cab and the habitat box is 2-3 inches apart, I would not need a bridge for that space, rather just install a correctly built door in each the rear of the cab, as well as the habitat wall. Allow the habitat door opens from inside the habitat, then faced with a tambour door in the rear of the cab can be opened from that view when the habitat door is open.

    • @HD.Adventuring
      @HD.Adventuring  9 месяцев назад

      That's a super good idea. If I were doing it again, I am not even sure if I would install a passthrough!

    Excellent job guys! Can you provide details on the passthrough? I am planning a build and having a hard time getting my head around a good passthrough setup considering the cab has to lift to service the engine. I want a good passthrough as i have a 2 year old daughter that will need to be in a car seat in the living area so I hope you can help!!! Thanks in advance!

    • @HD.Adventuring
      @HD.Adventuring  2 месяца назад

      Hi! essentially we have a rubber "boot" that attaches to the passthrough on both sides. Its permanently attached to the opening on the box, and then has a metal frame that sits in the opening on the cab end. That side is attached with clips that flip open to allow us to detach it when we need to lift the cab. Hard to explain, so i hope that makes sense!

  • @dannydivine7699
    @dannydivine7699 8 месяцев назад

    Ok just started the video, my first dumb question, did you consider using a used commercial reefer box rather than build from the frame rails up yourself? Just seems it would be easier to use a commercial structure as the starting point???

    • @HD.Adventuring
      @HD.Adventuring  8 месяцев назад +1

      Lots of reasons. Weight, customizability, durability for off road. Reefer boxes are cool, but this is exactly what we wanted.

    • @dannydivine7699
