In today's video, I want to talk about how to animate fast motion! A tool that a lot of animators use is called a smear frame! In this tutorial, I teach you what a smear frame is, when to use it, and what I think about when I'm animating with smear frames.
I had a lot of fun making this video, and it's one of my favorite subjects! I hope you enjoy learning about how to animate using smear frames! :)

At 43yo I decided to learn traditional 2D animation after many years working mainly with video, video editing, and such. And while being a champion for gen-ai for the past couple years, I found jaded about the 'AI for everything' trend and felt the need to backtrack a bit from it. Smear frames so far, is the technique I'm enjoying the most in this new learning path I'm going thru! Thanks for all your insights to us noobs!👍🏽

Awesome video! Thank you so much it was really informative and fun to watch. :D I had no idea about that on smear animations and they look so much fun to do. I was wondering can you do more then 1 frame with smear animation? Let's say I want to do 2 frames of smear next to each other instead of separated. Or does it really have to be 1 frame for smears?

It's definitely possible, it really depends on how the smears are drawn though.

Definitely! I think it's worth experimenting with how many smears, there's no absolutes, just suggested guidelines. :)
