I’ve been with my guy for 9 years. Last year we bought property together and for the past couple years I was picking up a lot of the financial slack while he started a business. I mentioned it in a comment on a Dave Ramsey upload and people tore into me telling me how dumb it is to not be married at this point. I brought the comments up to him during a fight and we ended up getting married this past December 21st

@@Fred2-123 thanks 😊 it was so funny because I brought up the comment thread and accused him of avoiding marrying me all these years and he denied it. Though sometimes I believe that he is 'supernaturally superior' in his analysis, it is his human-ness that I have come to admire the most. If they aren't married and they own property together (car, house, et al) if she dies, instead of getting the property in his name, he now owns the property with her mother. He also gets protections under the law if she dies regarding custody of the children and death benefits he might be entitled to as a husband, but not as a live-in boyfriend. If she gets seriously ill and is in the hospital, he has all kinds of rights as the husband to make decisions concerning her medical care. As the live-in boyfriend, he has no rights -- the hospital will look to next of kin, which is probably her parents -- and if the hospital's policy for visitation is next-of-kin only, he won't even be allowed to get in to see her. These are just a few of the rights he'd have as the husband, but nothing as the live-in boyfriend, so *without* being married, he has no legal protections.

Fact is, if your employer is requiring you to have a particular type of vehicle or you have to use it for work purposes, like hauling things or extensive traveling, then they should be paying toward it or providing a vehicle.
BTW, I'm not talking about business owners or contractors, although they do tend to overdo on the trucks, too.
