It’s completely fair to pay back loans that you took out. I am a current college student and for the first two years of college I worked over 40 hours a week between my two part time jobs. I knew what I was getting into with college. I commute to an in state school. It’s not fun. It’s not a party. It’s school. People need to grow up.

Most people go to college thinking you need college to make good money, but that's furthest from the truth. Now, if you are going to college for a specific thing that requires you to go to college, that's one thing. But if you are going to college, because you think that's the only way to make good money in life, then you were badly misled.

They kept asking for more and more proofs that I will be able to repay, even it was obvious from my high income and credit scores, and assets that exceeded asking money several times that I wouldn't have any problem repaying. Moreover, I put 40% as a down payment. Scientists are paid $80K tops for a PHD and pharmacists are horribly underpaid and overworked. Let’s not talk about teachers, social workers, nurses etc. I’m all for STEM forgiveness and paid education for 2-year degrees.
Let’s not talk about how useless some of these degrees are. I had to have an Accounting degree to qualify for government positions in the area, although I already had a Business degree. Once I got a government accounting position, I realized only a few people had a degree. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🧘🏽‍♀️

I agree with you and I agree with the student refusing to pay their loans. They borrowed money and they must repay it but I think the federal government should stop charging interest, too.The federal government needs to learn to run the country using the tax payers money not the student's loan payments. Will these student AND the feds grow up? I doubt it.

Additionally they’re not thinking that if the government were to forgive the loan it still needs to be paid through higher taxes. Now when they start working they are going to to pay as much or more in higher taxes than if they paid the loans they took out and signed to pay back.

I will never understand the arrogance of people who willingly took out a loan, signed a promissory note, but think somebody else is supposed to pay for it. For that stupidity alone, they should have to pay double the interest. What is even more infuriating is those lazy people who don’t want to pay back their loan just don’t care about what the people who sacrificed to pay back their loan did.

I have a fix for the student loan problem. Simply stop. No more taxpayer funded loans, period full stop. Imagine what would happen. All those really, really, REALLY smart people (the snark meter is at 11 when I typed that) going to NYU (and doing so from far away, so living at the dorms or whatever) for their double degree in comparative religion and communications will instead....gasp, have to either skip college and get a job, or go to their local community college. (Wah, wah, wahhhhhh....sad trombone). Speaking of such useless degrees - back in the day, those were reserved for those people who could afford to buy such a luxury good - you know, the useless kids of too rich parents. Yes, a college of arts and sciences degree is in fact a luxury good. Really nice to be all well read and the like, but the simple fact is, borrowing money to buy an expensive handbag or a luxury vacation is equally stupid to borrowing money for an economically worthless degree. All those kids with "unfair" student loans will just have to be protected from that unfairness - in your best soup Nz voice, repeat after me: "No loans for YOU!".

If you don't live in California, it's probably going to be a bad experience. California drivers get benefits, get to work their own hours, and get a minimum hourly rate. I know people who have been waiting for over a year or two to try and get on the app.

  • @BadBrad119

Jade understands. Student loans haven't helped anything. Jobs that would have been entry level are now locked behind a bachelor's degree. Student loans come with that, and so does a reduced buying power of having to pay back loans and losing 4 years of job experience. Not to mention employers today feeling they shouldn't have to train educated employees. Student loans haven't helped anyone, but forgiving them won't help anything. Only scraping the entire program will make a difference, which won't happen in the name of eDuCaTiOn
