Instead of asking thin actresses to put on weight, why not just hire actresses who are already more bulky? I am sure there are many overweight actresses who are equally good.
Haley many people have difficulty gaining or losing weight, all bodies are different and outside sources like medication can also be a factor. I’m a small girl naturally (5’2 and didn’t get to 100lbs. Until I was 16) and then gained a major amount of weight very quickly even though my diet and exercise levels hadn’t changed (I was in cheer and working out and running daily) but I had a medical condition. It took years for me to lose that weight and I did because of another medical condition
To women that gained weight for roles more power to you. Use this as a learning tool to understand the struggle of dealing with weight gain and health. Thank you for going the extra mile for the art of acting thank you ladies.
Fact is that for many, food is an ADDICTION. So, if you offered them large sums of money to give it up, no doubt they would TRY, but for many, a "profit" motive is not enough.
This doesn’t seem healthy to gain and lose weight so frequently when you’re gaining fat and not muscle. I’m in theatre so I understand where they’re coming from and admire the dedication, I just don’t have that commitment level to roles! 😂
If you have an eating disorder, that's very normal and common but I can't even imagine how one could do that without having an unhealthy relationship with food, even more not developing one afterwards.
@@Mackenzie-Ann There are plenty of talented actors who have a bigger size. I just amazes me that almost every hollywood actor is thin, but actors without the perfect body aren´t even considered for those kind of roles.
Ciara Miu Hollywood can’t handle different body types naturally. If they wanted actors with that body type to play the role they’d expect them to lose weight afterwards to be a size -12 again. It’s kind of awful.
Yeah, same. Contrast that with Jessica Simpson who lost 100 pounds in 6 months. There's no way that's possible without starvation, and possible liposuction.
Please stop trying to connect each actor to the next. These “smooth segues” are so annoying just make it a list and let each person have their own thing without trying to tie them into whoever’s next
I love this channel and its content, and this video is no different but the way you go from case to case seems awkward and forced, especially when you say "but Emma was probably green with envy when she heard what Viggo Mortensen did to gain weight". Just some constructive criticism
An aside: Still recall how interesting it was that when Gwenyth Paltrow made "Shallow Hal" and worse a fat suit rather than gain the weight, that one day she decided---during lunch break---to take a walk through nearby streets, while still in costume. She said she was stunned that everyone avoided any eye contact with her. She knew she was still "Paltrow" but the negative judgment of her because of her weight was so eye-opening to her. No one gave her a CHANCE, but instead avoided even eye contact.
I have always wanted to be an actress, but I would not be one if I had to gain or lose weight. I think that health is more important than a movie... especially if it might not be a good ratings that loses money...
I rather pack on muscle, including keeping my body strong as possible. Weight and body shaming is not something I tolerate because it makes people uncomfortable.
Charlize did this before for her role in Monster, these people can afford dieticians and trainers not to mention they are adults who don't need anyone's approval or permission to do anything
These actors say it’s fun to gain weight. Well, that’s because they have the money to get out of the weight gain mindset. Plus, they know if they don’t lose the weight they probably will lose big roles. Oh how fun
If I were an actor, then the studio should either use the body I already have or use prosthetics. Gaining and losing the weight regularly is dangerous.
How can you talk about Christian bale gaining weight for a role and not even MENTION him putting on about 100lbs of muscle for Batman Begins?! His film before that he fucking starved himself till he was emaciated then suddenly he's 238lbs of solid muscle! How that guy hasn't had a fucking heart attack yet I don't know.
One time Kevin Kostner stayed in my family’s rent-out cabin while he was doing some filming or something around where it’s located. At the time I didn’t even know who he was.
"try" and gain weight¿? Most of us are trying everyday to lose weight. Literally the easiest thing to do in the world, it is effortless to do, to let yourself go. Thats why it sucks
Try a real food diet instead of restaurant and processed food. Celery adds no calories. Carrot is fraction of the calorie of Carrot cake. Large apple 130 calories, medium apple likely half that. Piece of Burger KIng Dutch apple pie 340 calories. Also they don't always put the correct apples in the bag they list large apples but I have small apples in bag. that is a horrable thing to do

Anne Hathaway also LOST a lot of weight for her role of fantine in les miserables
Yup, and for Devil Wears Prada
interesting, guess acting is part weight part talent. Learning to be less absolute, for sure.
The transitions where you say how actors feel about other actors gaining weight doesn’t work.
Paul Allen agreed. So frustrating
Yes!! 😂
It made me so confused lol
I was looking for that comment. Its very annoying these transitions
I liked it
Imagine someone having to gain a ton of weight to play you
Just thought about that real quick....jesus Christ
