- Joaquin Phoenix Lost Extreme Weight For Joker Movie, But He's Not The Only Hollywood Star To Lose Weight For A Role.

There’s a lot of pressure to be thin in Hollywood, but sometimes movie roles require stars go the extra mile by embarking on extreme diets in order to enhance their weight loss. Joaquin Phoenix had to shed fifty pounds in order to play Arthur Fleck in Joker but it caused a little problem during filming. Chris Pratt was three hundred pounds at his heaviest and now he can’t stop talking about his workouts on social media. Lily Collins battled an eating disorder in real life so shedding pounds for a part was an especially arduous task. Timothee Chalamet was already slender before he went past the point where his family became concerned for his health. Chrissy Metz struggled with her weight her whole life until This Is Us motivated her to make some changes. Chris Hemsworth went from showing off his abs to showing off his ribs, and Adam Driver was so hungry at one point he could barely think. Running not only changed Jillian Bell’s outlook on herself but it had a big impact on her waistline as well. Christian Bale is known for changing himself dramatically, but there’s a reason he says that part of his career is over.
What do you think about these crazy over the top body changes these celebs had to go through? Which one do you think was the most dramatic? Share your choice with us in the comment section below and remember to click the subscribe button so you don’t miss new videos from us here at TheTalko.

Lily Collins is so brave for doing what she did after her own personal struggle
Katie Bullock ikr? i’d be too scared of potentially relapsing
That isn’t bravery its stupidity can’t put it kindly . She suffered from the disease and then lost weight for a movie . That isn’t brave or healthy .
Beast bombshell hero I agree. That’s like someone who quit doing drugs doing drugs again for addiction awareness. It was stupid and she’s lucky it didn’t backfire in her face.
YEAH!!! That was in my mind too!!!
Kaylin Ann Clearly she’s mentally stronger than you two. It’d be stupid if she were to relapse, but she has the mental fortitude and growth to not do so. Not everyone is weak and vulnerable and susceptible to their past bad habits.
I wish someone could force me to lose weight.

No actor is forced to loose weight. They accept a contract which tells them to do these certain things, no one is forcing them to sign it.
Not anymore.

Yeah it's not that easy
Agreed.
Lily Collins legit didn't have to lose any weight. The film team said she didn't have to. She made the choice on her own to portray the character more authentically.
As someome with an eating disorder, her weightloss just looked like a victory lap for her disorder. Its kind of hard to explain .. Glad shes healthier now
@@smashleymcbashley6250 I know it is. And I know gaining back the weight was probably hell. But I'll take a leap of faith.
finally someone that knows that :(
Yes! I saw the interview with the director of the film. He specifically told lily that she didn't have to lose any weight because they're gonna use editing afterwards instead. But she decided to lose some still so that she could portray the character better...
She probably was using it as an excuse to go back to her old ways in the name of "acting" idk
Lily Collins is so underrated ugh.
Blahblah Blah ???? lmao everyone loves her wdym
ava She’s the type of actress that everyone knows or has heard about, but we don’t see her often in the mainstream media. We don’t see her movies often either unless you really look for it. She’s like more of an indie actress if that makes sense? Her movies are rarely just not mainstream :( she just deserves to be more well known. She could’ve been the next Jennifer Lawrence with Mortal Instruments but unfortunately that didn’t set off well...
Not really the gays love her
She is fucking beautiful, I’ve always had the biggest crush on her ughhhhh
Blahblah Blah I fucking love her UGGHHG

BAHAHA YOU MADE THAT SOUND SO BAD BUT GOOD
Lol
When portraying someone who's anorexic, they should use editing. Especially when the actor has a history of an eating disorder. That's just dangerous to force them to actually drop the weight.
She was not forced, it was her own decision. And clearly you have no idea how film editing works.
@@kadrie3428 they did it in captain America.
I agree and even tho she was not forced she was still in recovery and could’ve gotten triggered to get into that toxic mindset again. I just hope she’s okay now
havent seen the movie, but struggling w anorexia doesnt mean looking extremely skinny. "anorexic" isnt a body type. she shouldnt have had to lose weight to portray her character
@@jeannebgdu70 exactly. Well said. People fail to realize that any kind of eating disorder will not define your weight
Christian Bale is the only actor who willing to lose the crazy amount of weight, gain them back, lose them back, gain them back again. Gosh, I can feel the pressure. Lol.

@Kayleigh Baucom exactly and I’m an actor and even when u get an audition it has a character breakdown that describes what the character can look like so they know In advance
Getting rid of fried food does not mean getting rid of carbs. It means getting rid of fat... Potato is good for you. Fries are not.
Eh, potatoes don't have _that_ much nutritional value. Native potatoes before commercial agriculture, genetic modification, and growth manipulation had way more. What they do contain now, can easily be obtained from another non starchy food with much more nutrition. I'll say they aren't bad for you. But I wouldn't say they are good for you either. Just a mediocre food source; one can take it or leave it 🤷
Elena no carbs aren’t necessarily good for you lmao especially if your trying to lose weight
Getting rid of carbs if you're on a long-term diet is a bad idea but people who have to lose weight in a really short amount of time will usually see the most result if they cut carbs out of their diet entirely.

"To the bone" is a movie that everyone must watch in today's time where people are obsessed with weight and calorie intake. I could relate to it for some extend. I had and still don't have a good relationship with food, but my parents help me so I am better. This movie reminds me of my teenage years mostly, I never knew how thin I was and the way I hated food. Also a lot of my frnds who had same issues, including my bestfriend who fainted occassionally. The movie is amazing in showing the helplessness, stubbornness etc. It really helped me see things different for real !!
Still you have to handle this movie with caution. It really supports the stereotypical picture of people with eating disorders having to be very thin in order to be valid. Also it can be very triggering, I know quite a few people including me who used to watch this movie religiously as a kind of thinspo and seeing lily Collins as a role model
@@Lili-fw9co that's right too! Especially the calorie counting and vomiting back or just the beautiful lily Colins, we tend to compare a lot. So yes, it could be triggering for some.
@@Lili-fw9co yes! it really does only show the stereotypical eating disorder. there’s more to eating disorders than just appearing unnaturally skinny, calorie counting etc. it’s also how people think and their habits- they may not even be underweight. that’s something i don’t like about to the bone. nonetheless, i somewhat enjoy it anyway
I struggle with Anorexia i could never do a film after i recovered for years it would be so triggering and feel like i lost everything. Lily is truly so strong and amazing 💖🙁

Timmy claimed that it really began to effect him negatively, and Steve ended up stepping in to support him. He’s a real trooper! ❤️
The girl who was in “to the bone” wasn’t forced, she didn’t have to loose the weight to be in the movie, they were gonna do it in post to make her look ill but she decided to do it healthily
I'm glad she had supervision allegedly but imo there's no way for anyone to lose weight to an emaciated level healthily, especially not someone who has struggled with anorexia.
Lmao "healthily".. that's funny
there is no healthy way to lose weight when you have an eating disorder, unless it was accidental and you can afford to lose a few pounds because you're already at a healthy weight
I honestly have a lot of respect for Christy Metz. She is a really good actress, and she is gorgeous. I'm glad I've been able to see some of the films she's been in.

Y’all forgetting Renée Zellwegger for her role as Roxie in Chicago, considering the fact that she had just filmed Bridget Jones’s diary a few months before
Lilly Collins was not "forced" to lose weight. They did offer her options for being able to make her look skinny using CGI or lighting tricks, but she said that she wanted to lose the weight in real life so the filming could be more authentic. This was a brave thing for her to do given her past, but it was her choice.

It is probably just a bit of more make up in the movie

ACTUALLY, Lily Collins said that it WASN'T mandatory for her to lose weight, but it was something she decided for herself in the sake of getting into character, and trying produce an overall good message for people hitting rock bottom, signifying that it isn't the end. She did it as safely as possible with the supervision of medical professionals, and when she was done, she regained the weight to continue her happy life like it never even happened. Obviously, since she was a victim of an eating disorder, this hit close to home for her in wanting make an impact of changing the way an anorexic or bulimic thinks. I totally get that, since I'm also an anorexia survivor, and if this meant I could help someone else to recover from something I almost died from, I'd say it's completely worth it. Never starve yourself! Eat but don't eat too much, but don't eat to little that you starve
Simple advice is so uncommon to the masses nowadays...
@Roxie Rocks but these actors had to lose fat fast it's their job... We normal people don't need to do that.
@@johndawhale3197 because people keep looking for the shortest way
@Roxie Rocks you don't get my point... It's their job to lose weight but do we need to lose weight fast? No! And why did Jenifer said she was soooo hungry? It might have been a healthy way of losing diet (i doubt that) but i'm super sure they weren't happy when they were losing those weights... Either way my point was that normal people should lose weight in a happy way if they try to lose weight fast they'll abandon their diets since they couldn't handle it and they'll start eating unhealthy again... To lose weight and have a good body will take years if done nornally and that would fit your schedule
Yup! There is no point in doing so, you are basically just robbing your body energy to function. When the body is starved it will just burn anything to keep functioning and muscles are early to go. Your metabolism is damaged aswell.
Just eat whole foods (primarily plants, or only plants) and eat until you are satiated. Normally this should bring you to your optimal weight over time. Keep moving in the process (doesn't have to be excessive).
