I'm glad she didn't go to SNL because then I wouldn't have seen her tonight in Rooms: A Rock Romance where she was fantastic AND did her Liza impression to perfection. Though this is quite hilarious.
Just because she's been on Broadway and was nominated for awards doesn't mean she's right for SNL. People who have studied at Second City, UCB or The Groundlings are well trained comedic talents, which is why SNL recruits from these places. This video is evidence that she has no legitimate comedy training and is using her position as a Broadway actress to submit an unsolicited "audition."
SNL could use you. Badly. And about 9 other people as talented as you are. It is, however, a trademark of corporate mediocrity with no room for an independent, thinking, artistic sensibility. You are better off doin' your own thang, girl!
Abby Elliott was only cast because her father was Chris Elliott. She's nowhere near as talented as her father, and she's very awkward on SNL. I'm sure she's a wonderful person, and she's ok, but she's not as good as anyone else on SNL.
