the fact that this role was her big break just makes this video much better. and i'm not sure what it is but something about her voice in this role just sounds so nostalgic to how most singing sounded in the 50s/60s and i'm so here for it lol
So, I think I can answer what makes her voice sound of that time. Firstly, she is singing with a mid Atlantic accent which was common around that time but more so in the 30s and 40s. She's also creating a lot of space and having open vowels while not rounding them out too much, which helps her avoid sounding legit and keeps her more in a belt territory. Furthermore, her vibrato is very consistent and prominent without being overly forward. Being overly forward can make vibrato wide to the point of being pitchy or having tension.
i love how fanny bryce is one of those amazing characters (roxie hart, the witch from into the woods) that isnt just the same in every production because each actor adds their own essence and version to the character. i really love that
That was fantastic not just that great voice but she actually acted the song, she took her time slowed the tempo, drove it just all the things you should do acting the tune. A thing very few singers do. Now, that's a fanny Brice I'd pay t see.
I got to see her do this at the Papermill in nj years ago while she was sooo young and thought she should surely been considered for Broadway production
Al i the only one who’s a little upset they changed the voice of Katie. I get Brandon has a news women character that’s exactly like Katie but I was deadass excited to see the ones va preform in the show
I love her ... but I'm confused by her accent.. is it New York? Is it British? Or is it just overly enunciated? Stephanie J. Block and Lillias White OWN this song... aside from Babs, of course.
@@ImNotOdd I was actually lucky enough to be in a production with her in SoCal about 20 years ago. She is phenomenal! There is a version on RUclips from another production she did in Wichita. Check it out!
I didn’t believe one second of this !!! I really wish she gave it a little bit more acting !! The Orchestra was horrible !!! I thought it was a CD tape she was singing to!! If the orchestra was more bombastic!! And gave her something I feel like it would have been better
I said it was vocally incredible - I don’t think that was rude... her voice is stunning. I just wasn’t convinced by the characterisation, it could be the director’s fault. Not everyone has to love everything 🙄
junebug 60 I’m a theatre director - I know the work a performer undertakes to perform a role. I’m not undermining her efforts, the outcome of those efforts just doesn’t do it for me personally - that’s all!
Leslie voicing Rosie in Hazbin Hotel is just amazing
I heard too! I’m excited
Leslie Kritzer has definitely reached Broadway Icon status
Why this woman isn't a headliner on Broadway right now, I will never understand. She is spectacular and absolutely sensational.
you: watching iconic clips of Beetlejuice cast
RUclips: *ANATHA ONE*
Omg same. This was Delia before her husband and his boyfriend bought a boat and then sailed away to Rome....

Skyler Keck rAcHeL BeRRy is the best character in glee
Stephanie J. Block and Lillian White have two of the best versions as well.
"Get ready for me love cause I'm a comer."
Alastor: "A what now?"
Her hands completely vanish with the black backdrop 😂
Wow. Just wow. She's fabulous.
Me: scrolling sees this

OH MY GOD HOLY SHIT I NEVER KNEW THIS EXISTED
I got to see her do this at the Papermill in nj years ago while she was sooo young and thought she should surely been considered for Broadway production
she's in spamalot now, but I really would have thought she'd be a bigger BWay star than she is
This give me Miss Argentina vibes
Chills!!!

very very good
Do you have Leslie singing ITGS?
happy 4th
Like watching Carol Burnett impersonate Barbra Streisand.

i LOVE lillias white's version its beautiful. i didnt know sjb did a version-- ill have to check it out

Austin Kennedy she was amazing!! SJB is so phenomenal!!😁
same. her diction has me scratching my head
Check out Linda Eder
Great voice but why does she sound like she's imitating Streisand? Weird accent or something.

Vocally incredible but the acting is awful in parts and what is with the diction/accent? She’s meant to be working class, far too refined and serious.
That's incredibly rude. Saying she isn't good completely ignores the hard work this took

@@xColmGx no but by saying her acting was bad you are completely ignoring all of the time and effort Leslie took for this role

the accent seems to be mimicking (or trying to) Barbra's I think
She listened to Streisand too much. Same mannered diction, same pointless shrieks as if she's being goosed at random intervals.
She could be Garland
