Not just a Black artist - a Black Brooklyn native. She's got the accent (and that 1-line Streisand imitation) downl. Ms. White is a phenomenal performer and here, she's absolutely Streisand's equal. It's a terrific interpretation of the song, and i so wish Ms. White could have played Fanny Brice on B'way when her voice was at its peak. (She still sounds wonderful, but is - sadly - too "old" for the role now, except in a concert performance like this one.) I came across this video last week and have lost count of the number of times I've watched it. :)
Nando Uchôa this is so much more multi-dimensional and emotional, and Barbra’s interpretation pales in comparison. This is the finest performance of “Don’t Rain on My Parade” I have ever seen.
Nando Uchôa I agree this was phenomenal but not scatting the song and singing the same notes as Barbra is not imitating her...it’s all about how you act, no, feel
Although I do agree, it is that Streisand standard that started it all which makes this show such a difficult one to cast for a revival. Still, I think because of the whole Glee/Funny Girl revival storyline is an excellent opportunity for FOX to produce Funny Girl Live with Lea Michelle & the rest of the available Glee cast. What a cast reunion that would be. Funny Girl is a timeless classic, and deserves a revival!
I love how she made this her own. Most people would try to do this just like Barbra Streisand and ultimately became her shadow, because only Barbra can be Barbra. Lillias White killed it by doing it her way, stepped out of Barbra's shadow and into the spotlight right beside her. I would love to see them perform this together. It would be epic.
I agree. She brought LIFE to the character and told the story in song in her own unique way. This song seems to resonate with her personally and she poured her soul into it. She has a phenomenal VOICE. If her and Barbra would ever sing this song together I would want to be on the first row to see and hear that. AMAZING
I definitely agree. What made Barbra's version special was that it was HERS, and that's what makes Lillias' version special too. She made it her own, and she owned it!!!!!
I love how you can hear the audience gasping at the end. After years of Barbra impersonations, finally someone comes and does this song justice while still making it their own. AND IT'S SO GOOD!!!!!

It's not about whose style appeals to more people, it's about who can put their heart and personality into the song. She didn't pretend that she's a white girl by singing like one, she sang that song in a style a black woman rocks and she did it beautifully. She sang in tune, she resonates well and she put her personality in it. She's JUST AS GOOD as any of the singers that made this song famous.

All this talk about these little girls being better than this powerful and seasoned broadway diva. When they have tread the boards like Lillas has, and live to sing another day, then maybe we can have an actual conversation about voice and interpretation.

This was absolutely amazing...... And inspiring.... Brought tears to my eyes.. On my way to learn it now... Haters, please. If you cant do it, then just shut up and respect it. Good day
that moment in a performance, where the performer, the audience, and the material are in perfect synchronicity, when the performer is sure she has all the tools she will need to just be in the moment and GO FOR BROKE: FROM 3:37 on, she gives this song, audience and story the what for!
How come this my first time seeing this!!!!! I’ve sung this song many times but never like that!!!! Simply amazing. I loved how she made it her own. Omg what a powerful voice!!!! Not an easy song to sing.
Wow, she really made this song her own. Completely different inflections and approach to the song. Simply incredible performance. 2:27 is so good, She really made "Oh life is Juicy, juicy and you'll see I've got to have my bite" part feel sexy and vivacious and full of life. Never seen this song performed in this way, and it's so refreshing seeing such a powerful and invigorating performer. I honestly like this rendition more than Barbara's because I feel like White is doing a better job of interpreting the lyrics into actualized feelings of self-empowerment. And her vocal style feels raw and spontaneous. White manages to put so much new energy into the song, and I think a large part of it comes from her unique perspective as a black vocal artist with a background in gospel music. Never seen a black woman sing this song before and I'm really here for it! Really awesome to see.

Get what I want--I know how,
One roll for the whole shebang,
One throw, that bell will go clang,
Eye on the target--and wham--
One shot, one gun shot, and bam--
Hey, Mister Arnstein, here I am!
I'll march my band out,
I will beat my drum,
And if I'm fanned out,
Your turn at bat, sir,
At least I didn't fake it.
Hat, sir, I guess I didn't make it.
Get ready for me, love,
'Cause I'm a "comer,"
I simply gotta march,
My heart's a drummer.
Nobody, no, nobody
Is gonna rain on my parade!
Omg that little modulation in “me and not you” at 1:52 tickles my brain
I am absolutely knocked over with Lillias White's performance here. Wow! The soul of this lady impresses me all the way to the top. Love her.
Yes the soul of blackness is truly a thing to behold.
CHILLS! Spectacular!!!! Bravo!!!! ANY comment here that is less than enthusiastic about this performance needs to have their ears checked. Sometimes, vocals are not a matter of opinion. Some sounds are objectively good. This is objectively good to anyone who can HEAR and who enjoys music. And truthfully, if you really dislike this performance, may be time to look in the mirror and ask yourself why. Who hurt you?!
This was absolutely amazing...... And inspiring.... Brought tears to my eyes.. On my way to learn it now... Haters, please. If you cant do it, then just shut up and respect it. Good day
The goose bumps refuse to go away i am still in awe of that perfomance
that moment in a performance, where the performer, the audience, and the material are in perfect synchronicity, when the performer is sure she has all the tools she will need to just be in the moment and GO FOR BROKE: FROM 3:37 on, she gives this song, audience and story the what for!
WOW! What chops! I never thought anyone could rival Streisand's performance--but Ms. White is extraordinary...
These people were in the presence of a goddess and they knew it.
My ideal replacement 😭
Her control her power im amazed at those notes and how she kept going and wow just wow I was breathe less just imagining.
You know, I think Barbra Streisand is the best singer in the world and I know her version of this song note for note but dang, that was awesome.
I thought Babs was the Don till THIS
What a spirited performance! No loss of beat! And extra melody, versatility and magic!
So much better than Idina Menzel's..
Black women are just amazing bro🤧😍
