  • This video shows a headlight switch and how i replaced it so that i had bright and dims on my headlights. I think its called a multi switch but the portion i replaced is the headlight dimming switch part. The working part i installed came out of a 1989 Toyota pickup and i had planned on replacing the whole assembly but after findind a major difference i instead replaced just the dim/bright switch section of the multi switch. I created this video with the RUclips Video Editor ( / editor )

Well >> ThankYou!! My '91 Carina II (Corona, non europe) is getting buzz-buzz-buzzy in the cowling and this has shown how I'm to swap a good turn contactor for bad. Excellent Vid >> very clear and easy to follow what needs doing. Many thanks again!!

Man, my 88 is showing same symptoms. I manage to get it to come on by giggling it but soon it will stop working. I was hoping the replacement was going to be simpler, but oh well, have to give myself the extra time. Thanks for posting .

I beleive it was a 1989 Toyota pickup and i put it in a 1994 pickup. Im quite sure toyota used the same switch on all their pickups and i think even the tacoma and 4-runners... If the switch (whole multi-switch) doesnt look the same you can take it off and then take it apart because the part inside (headlight switch portion) may be interchangeable to a wide band of years of toyotas. On donalds, his didnt have the ring on it that controls the wiper blade intermission so thats why i took it apart.

Just had a ground problem with my 91 pickup. Frickin auto zone sold me an alt. that i didn't need. Turns out it was a combination of two different grounds and 7 corrosion filled wires under the dash. What a night mare that was. 6 days to fix it.

Hey I can't get the pins to real ease off of the original black pin connection. My pick up is just like yours and am switching the headlight switch. I bought a new headlights switch from the dealership.

Also, what year/model honda did those seats come out of? I've heard '97 and up prelude seats bolt right into these early 90's Toyota pickups. Did you have to modify them to fit? Thanks!

Haha dang! I was showing that my headlight multi switch can be repaired using parts from another switch. I had switch from another truck but the connector was different so I took the guts from old switch and used them to get mine working again.
Sorry to hear you got ripped off with ur vehicle. I've been a certified mechanic for about 10 years now and I do my best to fix rigs at a low cost. It sucks when their's mechanics out there who do shady things. Anyhow, toyota pickups and 4 runners don't use bulbs unless the lights have been converted to different light system such as HID. So... to change the light assembly you use a screw driver and take out 3-4 screws. You get to the screws by standing in front of the headlight and you'll see them around outside of light. thanks for watching! !
