How to Install Toyota Pickup Cluster SR5 4Runner Upgrade (Tach, Oil Pressure, Volt)

  • I read about this cluster swap on yotatech.com and really like the added Tachometer, Oil Pressure gauge, Volt Meter, and especially the Trip Meter. I found a cluster at a junkyard for $20. I adjusted the tach potentiometer and added the wire for the tach signal and everything worked perfect. I used the thread from yotatech.com for all the help I needed. It should answer pretty much every question you could have about the cluster swap.

    Hey man I hope u still answer your comments. I have a 93 that the speedometer( it is electrical) does not work. I am looking into 94-95 cluster from a 4 runner just like the one you used. So I have a few questions concerning the new cluster. But if by any chance you still have the original cluster from your pickup(which is the same as mine) and you are willing to sell to me if it still works and does not cost an arm and a leg it will buy it. It will save me many headaches. 1st what is the oms on the RPM for a 4 cylinder? 2nd what it the part # for the oil sending unit and is it the same for 4 and a 6 cylinder motor? 3rd do i just connect the 4 connections to the new cluster and does everything works or is there some other thing I need to do so it works? Hope to hear from u soon. Thanks Robert

    I just did this with my 1989 toyota pickup. it has a 5 speed swap. What speedometer cable should I use? And how should I go about with the tachometer?

    • @GarageBuiltHondas
      @GarageBuiltHondas  8 лет назад

      The cable for any 89-93 will work. I believe the 94's were all electronic speedometers. And what part about the tach? The wiring, or the adjustment of the potentiometer?

    • @trimmerkid96
      @trimmerkid96 8 лет назад

      The wiring and adjusting the potentiometer

    • @GarageBuiltHondas
      @GarageBuiltHondas  8 лет назад

      +Sean Trimmer Plug in the instrument cluster first. If the tach doesn't work then follow the instructions that I put in the video. Is your cluster from a v6 model sr5? Then you need to adjust the potentiometer if it is.

    Any idea if I can swap the electronic speedometer out of my '94 pickup DLX 22RE cluster into the '95 4Runner SR5 v6 cluster I got at the junkyard? I've come across 7 of these 4Runner SR5 clusters in the junkyards near me -- ALL of which are for the cable speedo, which stinks since my pickup is electronic speedo. It's a bit of a shot in the dark, but I just don't want to go to the trouble of removing my DLX's cluster only to find out it won't work (if it indeed doesn't). Thanks!

    • @GarageBuiltHondas
      @GarageBuiltHondas  8 лет назад

      I would imagine it would work. All of the connections that make it work on the 4runner work on my Pickup. I just added the wire for the tach, that's it.

    heya pals, i have an issue.. not sure if its with my truck or the cluster I got.. i used both the resistances noted in the video.. and I get this result:
    the tach goes from pegged at zero to approx 2500/3k RPM once i move key to position 2. once i start it, it only goes up from there when i press the gas pdl. also, none of the lights on the dash, nor turn signals work. any ideas?

    Nice Video! I'm about to get that cluster myself but mh main concern is how exactly do you adjust the potentiometer? I read and saw pics of the link you posted but really doesn't say how to increase resistance?? I see that it says to check resistance but how exactly to you increase it or adjust? or am I missing something?

    • @GarageBuiltHondas
      @GarageBuiltHondas  7 лет назад

      Tooslow_srt You adjust it by spinning it. You can spin it with a small screwdriver at the same time you are checking it and adjust accordingly. It's easier than it sounds. I wasn't as thorough making my videos back then and I should've recorded this part also.

    • @velocity22s
      @velocity22s 7 лет назад

      Jon Widmer where exactly is it that you spin it? where is the screw at?

      It surprises me how a lot of the guys have a hard time coming across these clusters. Over here at junkyard I come across them everywhere, basically stepping all over them. 4 runners left and right.

    • @GarageBuiltHondas
      @GarageBuiltHondas  7 лет назад

      Tooslow_srt At the :32 second mark you'll see the white part circled. when you look at yours, you'll see exactly where the screwdriver is inserted. You can see if from the back better. You'll need to remove the tach portion of the cluster to get to it.

    • @GarageBuiltHondas
      @GarageBuiltHondas  7 лет назад

      Tooslow_srt I've found about 6-7 of these clusters over the last 2 years also.
