    UPDATE 1/7/16
    You DO NOT need to drill the blocks in the rear. The plate will go on top of the block and eliminates having to drill the holes bigger.
    A full walk through on how to install the 2" Belltech Drop Spindles, 3" lowering blocks and the Street Performance Shocks. This was my first time lowering a truck, and it was not that difficult. It took me about 5 hours from beginning to end.
    Wheels are 14x7 Zero offset (4" backspace)
    Tires are 195/75/14, slight rub on fenders
    I did roll my fenders but the tires are pretty large.

    Yeah i made the same mistake as you at first. do NOT drill your blocks, that plate comes off and goes on top of the block

      +Jon Widmer Yeah i would keep it that way until you get new blocks. I drilled one block a few sizes up and when i test fitted it, i knocked the plate off lol. stupidest $30 i ever had to spend again

      +Tj Long I think I'm just going to leave it alone. I haven't messed with the blocks since the install. I am going to double check all the nuts again to make sure they are tight still. Thanks for the comment man, its a welcome addition and hopefully other people will read this before drilling them out. :/ I updated the info section also!!

    I got the Belltech 444ND instead of the 444SP that you got. The ND (Nitro Drop) shocks up front do not fit through the control arm and don't have the removable dust cap your shocks have here. The solution I took was to press the lower shock mount bushing out, put the shock in to the control arm from the top, and then press the bushing back in. You could also grind out the control arm or the shock body, but I don't think those are as clean as just pressing the bushing out.
    Just throwing this out there in case anyone else has the same issue I did.

      Thanks man!! That's a good idea, I had thought about just getting a 2" block in the rear instead of the 3" to raise it back up by an inch. I'll have to see which is less expensive!!

    You know the base where you set the blocks have that plate you have to take the plate off and the whole on the block fits on a nipple on the leaf spring and gets you a 1/2 inch more drop.

    Hey Jon. I was wondering if you could post a picture showing whether your new scrub radius is above or below the radius rod after installing the drop spindles and flipping the ball joints (or just tell us, haha). You're pretty savvy, but if you don't know, it's just whether if you got a completely flat tire, would the radius rod hit the ground or would you be riding on the wheel? Reason I ask is I think 15s look great but they would be a safety issue if the scrub radius is too high. Thanks for all your help. Great video.

    • @GarageBuiltHondas
      @GarageBuiltHondas  8 лет назад +1

      +A dudeguy It is very close with my 14's but I would be riding on the lip of the wheel if I got a completely flat tire. It looks as if it would scrape the 2 nuts that hold the lower ball joint on slightly.

    FYI the nuts that hold the rotor/bearing onto the spindle are supposed to be loose, it's not like an axle nut on a fwd. Tighten them up ad you're gonna roast those bearings.

    and also do you need to have the ball joints pressed into the spindle or do you just tighten it on.

    • @GarageBuiltHondas
      @GarageBuiltHondas  6 лет назад

      +viiagrafalls I tightened them back on til it felt "good enough". That's a subjective term though since I've done a lot of ball joints. Ball joints are all tapered so as you tighten them it slides the knuckle onto the joint.

There are a handful of choices for shocks for your model, it just depends on what brand you'd prefer and what you plans are with the truck. I looked up "79 Toyota shocks" on eBay and there were plenty of different models.

      It's a 2" front, 3" rest drop. I just googled the kit and found the lowest price when I ordered it. You can do the ball joint flip for the additional drop which makes it more of a 3"/3" drop. The kit is Belltech 444sp.

      I do not know, I've never worked on any other Toyota older than mine. It may be a very similar process, especially the rear. I trimmed my rear bumps stops but not the front. The front was left alone because these hubs position the wheel lower without affecting the front suspension geometry.

    • @GarageBuiltHondas
      @GarageBuiltHondas  9 лет назад +1

      Easily. That offset/backspacing sticks out only 6mm more than my wheels and a small 1" drop would be perfect. The rear would actually line up better than mine because my rear wheel isn't flush with the fender. You would need a tire size that isn't too beefy though. I have 195/75/14 on my truck and that is right about 25.2 inches in diameter and it's a little too big. I haven't bought new tires yet, I prefer to get a larger set of wheel and smaller tires.
