Aaahhh, love watching pre-pandemic videos and dreaming of days before the nightmare! Those folks at the 2019 QA and SOQS don't know how lucky they were LOL. I've made this pincushion multiple times since this video and will be making a few more for the holidays so I stopped by just for a quick refresher on the size! Love you girl!!!
Love the pin cushions - the antique and the salvage edge one. I have collected salvage edges for a long time. I’ve made 2 tote bags (pattern was in 2009 McCall’s Quilting magazine) and several salvage edge pin cushions for me and friends. I’ve had so many compliments when I carry my tote to a class or show. Always enjoy watching your videos!
I have a selvage box but I haven't been cutting most of mine that wide. I made some personalized placemats for friends and family a few years ago. Each one had a mug with some novelty fabric that reflected something they loved. It also had books and the designer used pieces of selvage to applique titles on the books so I searched my fabric for appropriate titles. I thought I might make more but haven't so far. I'll start cutting mine wider now because I have a pincushion collection I just started-lots of strawberries so far. Lovely gifts. I no longer have a beehive....I flutter from flower to flower..iron in one room, sewing machine in another and cutting mat in the kitchen...pathetic but one must do with what they have. It does make a huge dent in my creativity though.
Great pincushion Anna! So cute-I've got a few selvages saved, but I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them until now. Can't wait to see video of the Quilt show. Thanks again for all you do in The Beehive-you are truly our Queen! Love you!
That is sooo cute Anna. I like the SF101 idea & the mixture of walnut shells and stuffing. I also learned that I need to buy a pair of forceps! I too, have a stash of selvages I’ve collected for a few years. I’m definitely going to make a selvage pin cushion - great tutorial!
Love this pincushion I need to make one with some nice selvedges. Thanks for the fun tutorial. Miss my quilting buddies. I need to make a stock of these for when we can meet again in person. Enjoy your new home.
Great idea! I have selvages but mine tend to be short because I prefer to make my cuts before cutting off selvages. Consequently theyvtwnd to be too short for most of the blocks. But they'll work for a pincushions.
I love your videos. I haven't been watching too long maybe six months. I have a big smart TV and decided too click on the You-tube app and searched around for quilting and that is how I landed on your videos. I love to travel with you and G on the Quilt Roadies. His quitar music is great and you are crazy!!!. I love it! The two of you remind me of my husband and I. I just have to mention this, on one of your trips in Aug., 19, the two of you had your trailer and was in a yard getting ready to barbecue some small something in your plate, I think it was a pizza and as you were going to put it on the grilll you saw a bug on the food and flipped the plate and almost lost all of it and you looked at the camera & G with the most shocked look and started laughing , If that wasn't a "Lucy" showing all of the quilts you have made. Beautiful! How do people get your address to the Bee Hive. They send you cards and etc. Is there an address somewhere that I just can't find? I live in Arizona. I saw the video where the two of you were in Tombstone. I don 't know when but I live in Bisbee the old Copper Queen Mining camp that closed in the early 70's. Phels Dodge. I'll go now.
it was a big bug!!!! LOL... I have a mail box 160 S. Oak St. 131 Sisters, Or 97759 I hope to get to Bisbee this next time...heard it has lots of artsy stuff...love that!
Hi Anna!..very cute pincushion..the backing is one of my favorite fabs!....and oh!..you have minions on top of your sewing machine..lol..so do I..hope I can get to sisters this year...thanks Anna!🌻🐝
So glad I caught this video! I have a boatload of selvages but couldn't find a good video/tutorial, believe it or not, on how to sew them! Thanks so much! Such a cute idea for a pincushion!!! I do agree with you on the cute selvages! Sometimes the selvages is as cute as the fabric! Lol. Love your tshirt also! So cute! Can't wait to see your videos/coverage from the quilt show!
The antique pincushion is to die for! Lucky girl! The selvege pincushion is similar to QAYG- sew clever. Glad you had such a great day with your friend and in The Beehive!
I like the selvage pincushion idea. I think using simple decorative stitches would be cute to use on the pincushion. Thanks for all you do. I can hardly wait to see your vlog on the Sister quilt show.
Thank you for sharing - great idea. I planned a placemat but wasn't sure how to stitch the strip which I already cut a little narrow depending on amount of fabric. Good idea for bean bag toss.
That pin cushion the dress form withe thimble on top ( is just to cute ) and the tape measure at the bottom just made it more special. I love that! That’s a really cool pin cushion you made. A very neat idea!
Loved the dress form pincushion. Super find for you. Went to a recent quilt show and found some Sue Spargo threads in sea colours☺. No wool fabrics but I'll try them on other fabrics. Have a good time at the outdoor Sisters show.
I so wish I could hop on a plane to the Sisters quilt show...and meeting you would be the icing on the cake!! I look forward to each of your videos. Thank you for the selvedge pincushion idea. Love it!! My best from RI!!
Love the video, love your work: that pincushion is too cute. You're so kind, affable and nice person. I love the way you talk and explain. Greetings from Italy!
Ohhhhh Anna ....I think you have given me a new obsession 👏...I can’t wait to start to become a selvage hoarder🥴 I mean saver 😂. What a super fantastic idea..just love it .Heaps of thanks for sharing 😘💐
Hello Anna, I will be thinking of y’all during the show. I’m sorry I cannot attend😩 but I will be watching your videos of the event 🥰🎉 Love the pincushion. Take care and God Bless, Chris-Raleigh NC
darling idea, I save selvedges for my quilt guild ladies ho use them. I haven't made the first thing with them, but I have some from one collection right now. I know now to leave a bit more of the fabric on them. Thanks for that tip
My co-conspirator and I made 20 of the selvage pin cushions for our guild retreat. They were so fun to make. Some had the selvages going corner to corner and some straight. I had never looked that close at the selvage color codes before. I hadn't realized the manufacturers were making them with cute little icons instead of all circles. A local quilt shop saves them and anyone can take what they need for their projects. You get a great variety that way. Wish I could be at the show this year to bid on your basket! Have a great time at the meet and greet! :)
Hey Anna, thank you for leaving your closet door open sew we can see your project boxes. You look sew different - more hair, less rest of you! - as I have been away for quite a while. Sorry to miss you and Quilt Show this summer after several years in a row with my friend Barbara. My family has started over in the Atlanta area after Paradise (the town adjacent to Chico CA) burned to the ground 11/18. I have not sewn for over half a year EEK! Love your sweet pincushion, I keep scraps in square plastic cashew containers from our friends at Costco, and used some of my selvage in a Farm Girl Vintage block. BTW a John Muir journal often accompanies me on camping trips, maybe keep that selvage for a project with a national parks or camping theme? These would make super cute corn hole bags (bean bag toss game). Thank you for the mini vacation with you just now in the beehive, it is sew nice t hear your voice and machine! P.S. Is that a baby aloe plant on your machine waiting to soothe a stitching mishap? Thanks again, Anna and G.
So many changes for you this year...I hope life is on the upswing and you'll find peace by stitching. Thanks you for hanging out with us :) lol...it's a fake plant
Be careful about using those walnut shells close to your sewing machine - they are VERY HARD. Heard of walnut shell-embedded snow tires? Yep, that's what they use so your tires can grip snowy/icy roadways. Even one or two in your sewing machine feed dogs or bobbin case area can really screw up your machine.
Great idea!! Thank you so much for the instructions. I also have a large zip lock bag full of the selvages. It's fun looking throught them to find just the perfect word to add to a project.
I've made many pincushions using walnut shells, only I just use the shells without any polyester stuffing. I hate it when you stick pins in your cushion and it goes skittering across your sewing table because there's no substance there. I add 1-1/2-inch strips to the sides and a heavy decorator fabric or tapestry bottom. Then fill with shells and whip stitch it closed with King Tut or some other heavy thread. I love them, and have sold several at art fairs and through a handmade-treasures gallery in one of our local shops.
I also started out by making them as Christmas gifts for the women in my monthly hand-sewing group, and it just branched out from there. The latest evolution was 'creature pincushions' made from vintage fabrics and bits and bobs of sewing misc, old labels, lacy pieces, vintage glass buttons for eyes, and even an old sewing machine cabinet key! I had them on display, not intending to sell them, but that didn't last...
Getting excited, last bit of Holiday booked to come meet you guys. Not long now. Murder weapon could come in handy when on holiday for 2 weeks with my sister : )
Hi Anna, I love the adorable pincushion. Thank you for your tutorial. I watched a cross stitch finishing video by Cathy Haberman that I found interesting. She sews around the entire edge of the fabric. Then she makes a slit in the backing fabric to turn the little pillow inside out. This way it is easier to stuff the little pillow and no whip stitching is required. Your label can ironed on with fusible to cover the slit in the back.
So cute and even I could do one. I would have pice the corners and put a diddy bow there. Love it. Question. Do you save your own walnut shells or buy them .
What a great idea for a pincushion I am going to start saving mine too! As always you make my day love the videos ❤️. Can you use other filling besides nuts as I have a granddaughter who has a severe nut allergy.
I have lots of selvage’s in all colours .People in our sewing group kindly give them to me ,each time they start a new project,l was saving them for something bigger but pincushions would be a lot quicker . So thanks for the idea.🧵
Hello, your channel popped on my recommendations list. I learned a lot from watching you. I always throw my salvages away. I didn't know they had such nice saying on them. You town is beautiful all the lovely trees. Where is it located?
Do you have a pin cushion attached to the front of your machine? How is it attached? Love the video and looking forward to seeing videos of the Sisters quilt show.
I like to make a little inner muslin bag that I put inside the out pincushion. I find it acts as another layer to prevent the walnut shells from escaping. Very cute pincushion and yes of course I have selvages to make something with one day. I often leave them attached to the rest of the yardage I have just in case I want to make something bigger. Then I also know where they are.
I'm wondering why with all the fabric I have I have no pretty salvages? Because I've been buying fat quarters! Someone's got my salvages...lol I'm gonna start looking now, I too love words that come in surprise ways. Have a great day creating.
I have not been paying attention to salvages.....i guess i will now that they are making them nice. I will only keep ones with sayings though or oh boy could I end up with a bunch lol.
Back at ya😘

There are all kinds of environments and all kinds of ways for us to get our project done. Great ideas for selvage use!

I am so happy you are going to start using them! One step for quilterkind...
Don't you just love making pincushions?! Very pretty!
so fun and a wonderful gift!

yes...once you start saving them you look at them entirely differently, lol
I love your videos. I haven't been watching too long maybe six months. Hi Lorrine my name is Barbara Palmer I’m from Brisbane Australia .love watching the bee hive

Hi Anna!..very cute pincushion..the backing is one of my favorite fabs!....and oh!..you have minions on top of your sewing machine..lol..so do I..hope I can get to sisters this year...thanks Anna!🌻🐝

I hope so too!!!
So glad I caught this video! I have a boatload of selvages but couldn't find a good video/tutorial, believe it or not, on how to sew them! Thanks so much! Such a cute idea for a pincushion!!! I had to figure out something to do with them, lol...the quilt show is going to be epic!!
That is so sweet. I never thought about saving my salvage before but I'm going to start.
Your antique pincushion is so adorable. A great find. Love your selvedge pincushion. Happy Stitching and enjoy your day.
The antique pincushion is to die for! Lucky girl! The selvege pincushion is similar to QAYG- sew clever. Glad you had such a great day with your friend and in The Beehive!
a real score!
I really enjoy your videos! Thanks for the info on the meet and greet. Like the idea of mixing polyfil with the walnut shells. Patty from Georgia

What a fun project. You have some great ideas. Thanks for sharing.
tick tock the brain is always working :)
I like the selvage pincushion idea. I think using simple decorative stitches would be cute to use on the pincushion. Thanks for all you do. I can hardly wait to see your vlog on the Sister quilt show.
ooohhhh I didn't even think about the decorative stitches!!! Thanks!
Thank you for sharing - great idea. I planned a placemat but wasn't sure how to stitch the strip which I already cut a little

Oh just love pin cushion so easy .but beautiful. Thanks for showing this
One of the girls in my quilt group made her ironing board cover completely out of salvages it's a really cool
WOW....that would be cool!
What a cool idea!
Great pin cushion Anna . I must save some salvages to do some for Christmas gifts x
oh my gosh...wouldn't Christmas fabric selvage make the cutest Christmas gifts!!!
That pin cushion the dress form withe thimble on top ( is just to cute ) and the tape measure at the bottom just made it more special. I love that! That’s a really cool pin cushion you made. A very neat idea!
I thought it was a great find!
What a great basket. Some lucky bidder's going to be very happy!
I hope so!!!
I use selvedges for making hanging loops on tea towels and in place of string. Your pin cushion looks cute.
great idea!
Love this idea! Coming to the quilt show from Missouri. Cant wait.
See you at Fika!!
I love the salvage pincushion, I also will be making this pincushion. I am so happy I came across your channel!

Hello Anna, I will be thinking of y’all during the show. I’m sorry I cannot attend😩 but I will be watching your videos of the event 🥰🎉 Love the pincushion. Take care and God Bless, Chris-Raleigh NC

Thanks for sharing.Love the new video ending!
awww thanks, G thought we were ready for a new ending.
I have some selvages but I will be saving more. What a cute idea.
great way to remember a project!
darling idea, I save selvedges for my quilt guild ladies ho use them. I haven't made the first thing with them, but I have some from one collection right now. I know now to leave a bit more of the fabric on them. Thanks for that tip
yes it is very important to leave a bit of color...so fun to use!
My co-conspirator and I made 20 of the selvage pin cushions for our guild retreat. They were so fun to make. Some had the selvages going corner to corner and some straight. I had never looked that close at the selvage color codes before. I hadn't realized the manufacturers were making them with cute little icons instead of all circles. what a great idea for a shop to do...they are a keeper!!!
I do not have a salvage box. I starting one now! Cute pin cushion .
LOL
Very cute. I never knew what to do with the salvage.
...a purse...a pillow....a skirt....endless!
That was a great idea I never thought about the salvage edges for pincushions. How cute! I hope to see you at the meet and greet.
Yeah!!!

So many changes for you this year...I hope life is on the upswing and you'll find peace by stitching. Thanks you for hanging out with us :) lol...it's a fake plant
Try using your chopstick to encourage the walnut shells through the funnel! Love the selvages!
will do! I need 3 hands, lol
It's fun looking throught them to find just the perfect word to add to a project.
that is the best part!
Very cute. I have fabric I could cut enough 6 1/2 strips of salvage to make one. Thanks for the idea. BTW love your ponytail. I’ve never had one.
I am sure you have a gold mine of selvage stashed away, lol
19:38 murder weapon- lol! 🤣 Thanks for sharing, Anna! Great idea for selvages that I've been storing for so long. 👍
See...we support each other in the 12 step selvage program!
I will be making one of these salvage pincushions. Yes, I to have a salvage box. Thanks for the 💡. I enjoy your demos. 💐
Sweet...we are understand the need for selvage, lol
Visiting you @Sisters quilt show is on my list.
yeah!!!
I have a bin of strips, some of them selvage. This is an AWESOME idea!!! One word: ETSY!!!
There ya go!
Going to Sister Quilt Show for first time this year. Hope to see you there. I’ll put Ficas in my GPS!
you better but first make sure you spell in Fika!!! :)
Anna I can’t believe I can’t go to your Greer and meet !!!!!! Maybe one day 🙏🏻
OH NO!!! Say it isn't so...ok another year.
LOVE your videos and love the pincushion!!!! You always make my day!!!!!!
thank you!
Getting excited, last bit of Holiday booked to come meet you guys. Not long now. Murder weapon could come in handy when on holiday for 2 weeks with my sister : )
LOL...Sisters...with your sister...now that is a book
@@quiltroadies1695 Ohhhhh I expect there will be plenty of stories to tell : )
Are the walnut shells a product that you buy, or are they just shells that you grind?
no grinding on my part! you can buy them at quilt shops or some pet stores sell them :)
@@quiltroadies1695ZILLA! brand is the best. Sold in pet stores for lizard cage bedding. You'll find the best prices there rather than a quilt shop.
What a pretty pin cushion!
Love this project. Thanks for sharing. 🦋💛
Great video Anna!
Awesome project. Love it!
I save selvages also. I really need to make something with them.
Well now you can start with something small!
Absolutely love the idea. I am going to start a collection. What sewing machine are you using?
it's a Janome :)
I have done that before...and then I put a label over the slit too...I should have done it that way....
🤗 Thank you Anna for the demonstration!
I don't keep many selvages.. but I will start to save more from now on. I have seen selvage print material but it's too expensive. Cute pincushion.
better to save the selvage...most throw it away!!!
It would make cute quilt blocks I think
I think you are right!
So cute and even I could do one. I would have pice the corners and put a diddy bow there. Love it. Question. Do you save your own walnut shells or buy them .
I buy them...don't eat enough walnuts, lol
Anna, Can you order some cooler weather for the quilt show day this year?
I shall talk to the big guy...just for you :)
Thank you Anna for a great video.😊
Beautiful pinchusion 😊❤🐝🐑
I am inspired and want to make a pincushion like yours!
Adorable. Someone is going to be very happy.
What a great idea for a pincushion I am going to start saving mine too! As always you make my day love the videos ❤️. Can you use other filling besides nuts as I have a granddaughter who has a severe nut allergy.
rice is great or just make is a soft poly filled cushion!
Xwhere do you get walnut shells?
either at quilt shops or surprisingly at pet stores :)
Cut the SF101 interfacing 1/4" smaller than the base layer. Saves on bulk! Hugs WAH.
thanks!!
I don’t have a box of selvedges.....I have crates full! It is an addictive collection. I am making a quilt using 8 1/2” selvedge squares.
I can't wait to see that...it is going to be heavy!
I have lots of selvage’s in all colours .People in our sewing group kindly give them to me ,each time they start a new project,l was saving them for something bigger but pincushions would be a lot quicker . So thanks for the idea.🧵
start small and work up!
Cute idea
Hello, your channel popped on my recommendations list. I learned a lot from watching you. I always throw my salvages away. I didn't know they had such nice saying on them. You town is beautiful all the lovely trees. Where is it located?
Now you can use every scrap, lol...I am in Oregon
Do you have a pin cushion attached to the front of your machine? How is it attached? Love the video and looking forward to seeing videos of the Sisters quilt show.
I do...it is one of those bottle cap pincushions and is attached with a velcro square :)
