Steve I watch because I can relate to what you're doing; my Pappa was a "bedbug " for 40+ years, and I would ride with him during school breaks in the summers, loading and unloading household furniture. Atlas Van lines, Republic Van Lines, North American.., were a few companies he drove for. Papa always drove cabovers, Macks, Brockways, Freight Shakers.. In the summer of 1974 he was given a brand new K-100 to drive with a screaming Detroit 318; we hit 23 states that summer, my last summer before I went into the army for the next 24 years. Those memories will never fade Steve, and your channel brings them back. Papa passed away in 2014, and is now resting in that big truck stop in Heaven😢
I watch because I've always been fascinated by trucks (and planes, trains, ships, any large equipment. Basically the mind of a gear head). I love to drive, but I also know that doing that for a living is a different animal. This channel lets me see the road and enjoy the sound of the CAT without having to deal with all the stuff a trucker has on their plate. One other thing I realized from watching this video, Orwell needing a rest after huffing up these West Virginia hills; there's no battery out there that has enough energy to do that, so electric trucks are a pipe dream until a better battery can be invented.
There is something so relaxing and peaceful about these videos. Make me feel like I'm a friend along for the ride. Enjoying the scenery and the freedom of the open road, and the beautiful sound of that gorgeous Caterpillar engine running through the gears. I am such a fan of seeing old school beat the crap of the new generation and their smug superiority. As they used to say back in my day (70's) Keep on truckin' brother.... You covered some of my reasons for following your channel. My dad started driving trucks somewhere between 1975 and 1977 to 1981 and most of my 8th grade school year (1985/1986 (year round schedule started in July 1985). Most of the time, he drove Cab Overs. One of the main reasons that he discouraged me from following in his footsteps was to shield me from the dishonesty that still plagues the industry. My dad did mainly local work in California and mainly worked for owner independent owner operators. The living vicariously idea holds some water with me in the remembering experiences of riding with my dad. The long drives that I did with my dad mainly happened between the day my mom died and then my dad died. The cross country drives happened in December 2002 (to attend my maternal grandpa's funeral mass) and August 2003 (for one last visit with my maternal grandma about a month before she died). My grandparents lived in Harrisburg Illinois (the town where Steve delivered the skid steer to on his way to MATS 2023) and my dad and I lived in Fontana California. My grandma buried the hatchet with my dad. My grandma had a hatred for my dad over a blatant lie that she bought hook, line, and sinker from her mom in December 1972. My mom lived vicariously through me in regards to a lack of money in 1970 that prevented her from earning at least a Bachelor's Degree from her preferred University in Northern Illinois (they lived one a farm outside of Morris Illinois that was in her dad's family from a point prior to 1850 to December 1988). I worked in my chosen field for a while. After each of my parents died, I briefly pondered using my education background in a different way by getting in the industry. During the first consideration, I picked a fine time to bolster my resume doing a job that most people do prior to or during their time in college. When I married my wife (we met and married in the spring of 2005), we did alright on the three incomes. The unusual job allowed me to stay close enough to my dad over the last three years of his life when his health declined. The second time I pondered getting into trucking, both my wife's and my health started declining. Becoming my wife's caretaker both inspired me to get my health in better shape. Diabetes is no joke. My dad never took the disease seriously. It ultimately killed him at age 60 in 2010. I almost lost him a few times in 1998 before his 48th birthday. Of all the stuff that my dad went through in 1998, I only had a mild version of one of those problems when I was 46: a mild cellulitis problem in my left leg. My dad deliberately ignored his cellulitis infection in 1998 and started all of his near fatal events before his 48th birthday. I honestly don't know if I want to fly a desk again. The job I had (in my original chosen post college profession) when my mom died ended 3 weeks later when the owner of the company closed it down during the time that we had to relocate the business. In some ways, the unusual timing of a job I took to get back on my feet and resume that career ultimately inspired me to find other ways to use my education in something that would be of my actual choosing. I have marched to my own beat and haven't ever worried about telling me I am bucking what's considered to be normal. I hope the younger commenters can learn something good from my story and somehow apply some of it to their lives. The never say never is no cliche because nothing is impossible.
Why I watch? Lots of reasons. I love that you keep things largely trucking. You're not vlogging your walk around the truck stop or some local amusement, it's all trucking, or mostly. I like watching that scenery go by to the sounds and sights of a great classic truck. I really respect you for working hard and doing things your own way and succeeding at it. It's just a all-around great watch, the B model in the background just makes it that bit better.
Hey Steve, you asked why I keep coming back? For me, I'm a simple man: I just love listening to that Caterpillar sing. For some reason, there isn't a better sound in all the world, than listening to a finely tuned and oiled old-school diesel with it's turbo working hard, singing with the turbo whine and Jake brake. Plus, I'm a sucker for old trucks -- especially ones nearly as old as I am! Second, I like the commentary and informative nature of why you do what you do, and how you deal with situations on the road as you work and haul your loads. It's a good reminder of what makes America the best country in the world: Work smart, work hard, get a bit lucky, be competent at what you do, and you can build a decent life for yourself. Interesting watching how you manage to keep the classic Orwell going, and running a business, and the realities you face doing it all. Truckers keep Americans supplied with all we need, you're the heart that keeps it all pumping in my opinion. Don't think I could do what you do, I have mad respect for the hard work you put in.
I am a retired driver . I had health issues that forced me to retire so I enjoy watching you go over the roads I used to travel. I drove COE s for years and I loved a 1693 CAT.
I have been watching for a while now and I like that we have someone showing us trucker’s in a good light, as well as the day to day stuff we deal with on America’s roadways. I think a lot of people have forgotten what truck drivers do for this country and how important we are, because it is definitely a dying breed in some ways. Also at time’s a lot of bad press due to some very bad people that shouldn’t be driving a commercial vehicle always makes people think we are all bad but that simply is not true. You show people that we are hard working everyday people trying to make a living supporting our families and providing for our country, so thanks fellow driver for all you do. I’ll give you a shout out if I see you on the highways!!
Why I watch your videos is because I am old school. Your old school, Orwell is old school. I loved doing RGN work. I like your commitment and dedication. I like you shift gears. I like everything about your videos. They speak loudly to an old school RGN driver. My motto when I was driving, The Bigger The Better!!! I like that you actually drive your truck, it doesn’t drive you, ( nuts ) with bells and whistles and warnings. Watching this vid I was dreaming me in a 359, 425 air to air twin stick. The old school people have an air about them. I love that you tie your loads down. I like that every load has a new set of problems. Anyone can pull a dry box. I like all the different signature FSC shots on the camera’s. You talk and walk old school, and drive like I know lived and experienced. So every time you put out a video I strap my seat belt on and take a ride in the jump seat. It’s a dying comeradery . Something I miss very much.! Have a great and a safe day. I like the truck. I started out 41 years ago in a 1967 Kenworth cabover with a 335 Cummins with a two stick 4X4 transmission hauling cows. I remember when Keen was running that truck new.
I like watching independent driver owners. I like the scenery have always loved to travel. Rode with hubby a few times over the years then he passed 10 years ago. Most of all tho I’m impressed and amazed at the driving talent. Handling and confidence in wet poor weather. Those things bother me if I drive a lot now that older. Wish was a free spirit and could live on the road. So a bit of vicarious as well. I honestly do like it when you chat talk. A lot to offer.

Orwell is 39 years old going on 40. You also show the trucking industry that in order to save time and money you need to be a hands-on driver and not just a steering wheel holder. Sounds good. 3. Your insights on how the trucking industry is functioning. The economic impacts from the ground level viewpoint. 4. What it's like to be a truck driver. I wanted to be one when I was 14, but my talents took me in a different direction.
I wrench on rigs for a living and love old iron. Orwell puts a smile on my face. When all the new stuff is down getting Nox sensors and DEF heaters, he's just puffin away without a bother. I can't wait to see more 2 storey Ford videos🤘🤘

It's all of them bro, vicarious living, see the country, entertainment and it's almost like driving around with a good friend in an old truck, and these days I'm short on friends.
Steve it's your work ethic, your determination in your talks, it's your love of older but better trucks, its the way in which you respect equipment, you brought Orwell back to life/ work you know what it can and doesn't like doing. Love the exterior camera that films forward over the top of the truck. Seeing that 3406B roll a puff of coal when you get on the throttle after an up or downshift is extremely cozy. Beautiful countryside, too!

I like watching the different loads you get and I really like watching the videos on truck maintenance. I do a lot of the work on my 2010 f250, and am try to keep my 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee going as long as I can by doing my own work.
I like Orewell my first truck that I drove was 372 peterbilt the old dark Vader trucks had a n14 Cummings in it don't remember the year of it tho. Also like the different things yo haul and how you tie things down can always learn something

I've been to Germany, and I used to observe the trucks driving on the Autobahn passing our military convoys. It looked like mostly big box trucks pulling a trailer ,and sometimes a Volvo or Mercedes tractor pulling 3 axle trailers. This was over 40 years ago, so I don't know how much it's changed in Germany, equipment wise with trucking. I've been trucking for the last 36 years in the USA.
@@truthseeker2321 Yes, still the same, but a lot more trucks, its as almost all the right lanes belong to the trucks. Most of the major Autobahns have 3 lanes now, 40 years ago it was mostly 2 lanes. The usual tractor has 2 axles, except for the ones hauling heavy equipment. And we have these articulated trucks, I cannot remember seeing them in the US. I was an OTR Owner/Op and had my life jerked from under me by a serious back injury. I sure do miss the life! 2nd. I love the cabover trucks! When I was shopping for my truck, I was actually looking for either a Freightliner Argosy or a Pete 372. I found a 372 about 75 miles from my home, but the engine, trans, and rear drive all needed major repairs, and they still wanted $15,000 for the stupid thing! I found a '99 Classic for a good price and put just a little short of a million miles on it before the back injury. 3rd. You have awesome content! Little to no fluff, just good content! Thank you for that! Consolation. You run kinda close to my area fairly often. I hope to bump into you sometime out there! I'll even buy you lunch! Thanks for sharing your life with us!!!

I watch because I love Cabovers, but when I was a teen we use to travel a lot, I been as far west as California, I been as far north as Missouri, and I been as far east as Florida, but my favorite state is Colorado, I love that state, Louisiana is ok, but it's no Colorado, lol.

I do enjoy your videos and i love the 3406 series engines, a,b,c and e.

I am a retired driver . I had health issues that forced me to retire so I enjoy watching you go over the roads I used to travel. I drove COE s for years and I loved a 1693 CAT.
Pulling oversized uphill pass brand new riggs with a fraction of the load weight. Absolute beast!
I have been watching for a while now and I like that we have someone showing us trucker’s in a good light, as well as the day to day stuff we deal with on America’s roadways. I think a lot of people have forgotten what truck drivers do for this country and how important we are, because it is definitely a dying breed in some ways. Also at time’s a lot of bad press due to some very bad people that shouldn’t be driving a commercial vehicle always makes people think we are all bad but that simply is not true. You show people that we are hard working everyday people trying to make a living supporting our families and providing for our country, so thanks fellow driver for all you do. I’ll give you a shout out if I see you on the highways!!
Why I watch your videos is because I am old school. Your old school, Orwell is old school. I loved doing RGN work. I like your commitment and dedication. I like you shift gears. I like everything about your videos. They speak loudly to an old school RGN driver. My motto when I was driving, The Bigger The Better!!! I like that you actually drive your truck, it doesn’t drive you, ( nuts ) with bells and whistles and warnings. Watching this vid I was dreaming me in a 359, 425 air to air twin stick. The old school people have an air about them. I love that you tie your loads down. I like that every load has a new set of problems. Anyone can pull a dry box. I like all the different signature FSC shots on the camera’s. You talk and walk old school, and drive like I know lived and experienced. So every time you put out a video I strap my seat belt on and take a ride in the jump seat. It’s a dying comeradery . Something I miss very much.! Have a great and a safe day. I like the truck. I started out 41 years ago in a 1967 Kenworth cabover with a 335 Cummins with a two stick 4X4 transmission hauling cows. I remember when Keen was running that truck new.
I could listen to that engine all day long!! You can hear the power!

I like watching independent driver owners. I like the scenery have always loved to travel. Rode with hubby a few times over the years then he passed 10 years ago. Most of all tho I’m impressed and amazed at the driving talent. Handling and confidence in wet poor weather. Those things bother me if I drive a lot now that older. Wish was a free spirit and could live on the road.
So a bit of vicarious as well. I honestly do like it when you chat talk. A lot to offer.
Hey Steve, I've watched your channel for a while now and the reason is this. You show people that old trucks can get the job done and that you don't need a brand new one. Orwell is 39 years old going on 40. You also show the trucking industry that in order to save time and money you need to be a hands-on driver and not just a steering wheel holder. Keep doing what you are doing!!

Sounds good. 3. Your insights on how the trucking industry is functioning. The economic impacts from the ground level viewpoint. 4. What it's like to be a truck driver. I wanted to be one when I was 14, but my talents took me in a different direction.

It's all of them bro, vicarious living, see the country, entertainment and it's almost like driving around with a good friend in an old truck, and these days I'm short on friends.
Steve it's your work ethic, your determination in your talks, it's your love of older but better trucks, its the way in which you respect equipment, you brought Orwell back to life/ work you know what it can and doesn't like doing. Your just an all round good guy, you'd know you were an owner operator they way you want to give your rig a rest and to cool down all liquids.

Actually, I always liked starting early. 1-3:AM. Especially if it's a long ride. AKA, just a day for driving. Deliver and everything else tomorrow. I started watching when one of your videos showed up in my feed and you talked about Orwell and how you named him. I find the shop work educational too. I get a kick out of your sense of humor too. Love the exterior camera that films forward over the top of the truck. Seeing that 3406B roll a puff of coal when you get on the throttle after an up or downshift is extremely cozy. Beautiful countryside, too!

I watch for basically all the reasons you asked about. I love Orwell both as an old truck and as a cabover. I am entertained by the content. I also live vicariously, because I have to drive modern trucks with all the nasty DEF and the shitty elog.

I like watching the different loads you get and I really like watching the videos on truck maintenance. I do a lot of the work on my 2010 f250, and am try to keep my 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee going as long as I can by doing my own work.

I like Orewell my first truck that I drove was 372 peterbilt the old dark Vader trucks had a n14 Cummings in it don't remember the year of it tho. Also like the different things yo haul and how you tie things down can always learn something

I've been to Germany, and I used to observe the trucks driving on the Autobahn passing our military convoys.
It looked like mostly big box trucks pulling a trailer ,and sometimes a Volvo or Mercedes tractor pulling 3 axle trailers.
This was over 40 years ago, so I don't know how much it's changed in Germany, equipment wise with trucking. I've been trucking for the last 36 years in the USA.
@@truthseeker2321 Yes, still the same, but a lot more trucks, its as almost all the right lanes belong to the trucks. Most of the major Autobahns have 3 lanes now, 40 years ago it was mostly 2 lanes. The usual tractor has 2 axles, except for the ones hauling heavy equipment. And we have these articulated trucks, I cannot remember seeing them in the US. Good morning, Steve! What I enjoy about your channel is:
1st. I enjoy getting a glimpse of life on the road most days. I was an OTR Owner/Op and had my life jerked from under me by a serious back injury. I sure do miss the life!
2nd. I love the cabover trucks! When I was shopping for my truck, I was actually looking for either a Freightliner Argosy or a Pete 372. I found a 372 about 75 miles from my home, but the engine, trans, and rear drive all needed major repairs, and they still wanted $15,000 for the stupid thing! I found a '99 Classic for a good price and put just a little short of a million miles on it before the back injury.
3rd. You have awesome content! Little to no fluff, just good content! Thank you for that!

If ever selected someone new an independent owner driver would likely be my best match provided he talks!! I absolutely love to travel never get tired of it. Like seeing new places. Don’t mind truck stops at all. Some of best food is at the non chain mom pop places.

I watch because I love Cabovers, but when I was a teen we use to travel a lot, I been as far west as California, I been as far north as Missouri, and I been as far east as Florida, but my favorite state is Colorado, I love that state, Louisiana is ok, but it's no Colorado, lol.

Nice truck and i think its cool you are using it for everyday freight transportation tho, i have a 1987 freightliner flc120 3406b but its turned up and has a s410sx 78/1.45 turbo on it and its pushing 550hp or so.

I like the road. I have another window open with Google maps so I can see where you're going. My first real job was driving. I would have run US52 through Fancy Gap, but I guess you weren't permitted for that.
