This might be a stupid question. Okay, this IS a stupid question. Was English like an elective (a non required class) in high school? Like at my school we had French or Spanish. Or did you learn it a different way.
In Russia, all kids learn English at school from the 2nd grade (age 8-9) until the end. But those who really want to know the language usually take extra classes.
Yes we all start learning English in second grade and in good schools you can learn additional languages. I wouldn’t say the average Russian student is good at English, though. I’m fluent because I study linguistics and speak almost every day.
