11:26 my answer as an atheist would be that during Christmas, instead of celebrating the birth of Christ, I'm celebrating the affection i feel towards my family and my friends, and it's also a fitting occasion to catch on some much neede rest .
I personally do not have the strongest relationship with Christ, but to me Christmas is more than just a religious celebration or holiday. It’s a time for me to appreciate and celebrate my family and the love I have and share with the world. So in a sense it is really appreciating that I am apart of something bigger than myself, religious or not. (I’m American btw and idk if this is just more common in the us for all of us to celebrate or what, but the holiday here really is commercialized to all regardless of religion)
I absolutely love how you talk. Your inflection, the facial expressions you have while you speak. Everything about you I adore! I’m very happy I found your channel. Keep up the great vids! I’m loving your style of videos so far.
Im not religious but i celebrate Christmas because my parents both grew up religious and my grandparents celebrate it, but american Christmas is generally much more about family and community than religion
11:40. , As someone who doesn’t believe in God/Jesus/Holy Spirit, I think i can answer this genuinely. I genuinely spent time thinking about it, and to me xmas is a time of giving, Not in the sense that “let me spend alot of money on this person gifts”, But let me give them gifts/a gift that is Personal, Genuine, Caring, etc to show my care/support. Even vice versa, i was gifted only a hoodie last yr, yet i was happy regardless of the circumstances. All because i got something that showed they cared.
My family celebrates new years and my husbands family celebrates Christmas (dec 25). I love being able to celebrate both and sharing my culture with my husband!
I love your videos because you always talk about really interesting topics, but I really enjoyed this one specifically because I always think about this topic too. My family is from a protestant branch of christianity, but they don't believe in Christmas because most christmas traditions come from other pagan cultures. And in my home country, christmas is viewed as a foreign holiday (especially from the US seeing as they export the main current perception of christmas through media), but everyone still celebrates it. I guess it makes sense because everyone likes celebrations and we add elements from our culture too, but to me it's always weird because it doesn't align with the original intention for christmas (all the religious meaning) and as an atheist I just see it as a family reunion too. But I guess this happens with most traditions because our conditions - and therefore perception as a society and culture - changed since the tradition was first established. Anyway, I loved the video and I always enjoy your content!
Thank you for this video! You explain everything so well ❤ For my family, the main holiday is New Years. But my dad is Catholic, he’s not very religious, but we congratulate him every year and put up Christmas tree around this time. My mom and my grandfather are Christian Orthodox and my grandmother is Muslim - your typical post soviet family 😂 But we use Orthodox Christmas as an excuse to just have fun together ❤
I think people started to celebrate Christmas because of the religious reason but because of the Santa clause story it changed the meaning and the traditions of the holiday. My family obviously celebrated the Santa side but my grandparents are very religious so we pray a little as well. It really just depends on the family but it is very possible to celebrate even if you are not religious
I bet when the Soviet commission for a new secular winter holiday turned in their first draft the superior said, "Really, the best name you could come to with was "Not Santa Claus"?
Hello lovely Zhunya 🥰 A new subscriber here. So glad to find you! 1. You have a special talent for ASMR 2. This channel is an AMAZING bridge between cultures (we all know how important) I wish the best for your family at Christmas 🎄🌟
I think Christmas is a holiday that has become both secular and religious. People who are from traditionally Christian countries celebrate it because it's the tradition to celebrate it. They just celebrate focusing on tbe other elements besides Jesus, such as family, and good will, and giving/generosity. Like you said, we need a midwinter festival to keep going, and Christmas is the best for that because it's all about joy and happiness and warmth. Personally I'm not religious, neither are my parents or grandparents, and from what I remember of them I don't think my great granparents were either. Christmas is my favourite holiday. But tradition is weird like that. Despite noone being religious in my family my grandparents insisted I was baptised because it's traditional, so I was. I think everyone in my family has been, including the next generation (my cousins' children). My family get married in churches, and have funerals there too. It's tradition 🤷 I agree it's strange.
i’ve been wondering about this!! great video thank you so are the decorations behind you for christmas or new year? do the two holidays share themes/decorations or is russian christmas exclusively religious (with no ties to cultural stuff like silly tree headbands, red & green, decorations, etc.)
Those decorations are for both Christmas and New Year. I think nowadays people just wait till Christmas and then put everything back, but originally Christmas had the same decorations

That’s very sweet. I think the gifting culture is not so common and spiritual (?) here.
