They were alarmed, not surprised. Just as in tornado alley, they're not surprised when a tornado hits, but they are alarmed when it's their neighborhood.
I first heard when some fellow down in Lelani estates, site of the breakout, posted on Facebook that the road in front of his house had broken open and Hugh amounts of steam coming out, right before lava first appeared.
Did you noticed that Mayotte region had lots of major quakes at the same time? The region is on the other side of the globe and has similar island spread like Hawaii. Why is that? Is it because of S and P waves or something else?
It was not the Kilauea crater that erupted, it was a new fissure that surfaced in Leilani Estates. Crazy to relive the footage. Thanks for the trip back in time 🤙
Like the great George Carlin said once "They build their houses next to an active volcano... and then they wonder why they have lava in the livingroom".
When I went there and flew from oahu to the big island there was a recent lava flow and it smelled like someone farted. It didn't burn to the road so we could go past it and also it burnt out a while before so it was fine. Grandma lives on oahu so she's fine. Well guess what grandma got a divorce and she's lonely and got a computer virus yee
Also, Smithsonian... stop showing Waikiki and beaches on Oahu when talking about Kilauea.... completely different island and not even remotely close to where your stock footage is being shot. I lived on Oahu and people thought that the volcano was on that island because of shows like this.
Jesus love you, he died on the cross for you, accept him as your lord and savior he can change everything. For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life" (Jn 3:16" But you must repent too. From that time Jesus went about preaching and saying, Let your hearts be turned from sin, for the kingdom of heaven is near. (Matthew 4:17)&
It interesting to see that there no forest FIRE . Just where the lava flows. Nature respect Nature . But of course Man house are not made from living Nature .
Disaster strikes. Gawkers rush to see. In particular, that cameraman taking his small son: "Papa is that lava?" Good parent, "I think so and we're leaving!"
Probably because they were told years in advance! And now that they have been building on that land it is just a matter of time until they see something worse!
I have relatives in Pāhoa, once they heard the thunderous rumble, they immediately packed their trailer and was prepared to move. Expensive items packed, replaceable items stayed.
I'm surprised that people are surprised about lava coming out of the ground, when they live on an active volcanic island.
Who said they were surprised? The TV show? And you believed them?
They were alarmed, not surprised. Just as in tornado alley, they're not surprised when a tornado hits, but they are alarmed when it's their neighborhood.
@@CrispyOkra Well said. Just sucks when it happens
Tourists are surprised. Locals are used to it.
honestly
"it was bubbling and gurgling and there were massive earthquakes"
yeah i dont think you need to be a scientist for that one
ROFL
even a kid could figure it out
SPOILER: This is about the 2018 lower east flank eruption, not the December 2020 event that began a week after this video was released.
I lived there 25 years and saw it erupt 3 times from the air.
“Papa is that lava?” I love that hahahahaha
The timing of this video being posted seems a bit portentous giving events underway on big island today
Yet
I’m offended......I voted for Biden lol
@@maxt7525 ha ha ha. Hilarious.
@@maxt7525 why would you vote for biden he’s such a bad choice
@@Lazybuttery Your entire country is a bad choice.
Little did they know that mere days after posting this video, Kilauea would erupt once again...
...or did they?.....

The floor is lava.
Not only that but its hot!
Ah yea lol, sounds like what someone in bl3 said in one of the dlcs lol lol
The entire island is lava.
@@jeannefoster5594 The entire planet is magma. We just float on top of it.
Literally 😂
That's cool the ground opening and steam coming up, woot hot lava!
Terrifying
Imagine going for a hike in the forest, and lava pops up and the trees surrounding you are set suddenly alight.
Live on the Big Island. She just erupted again last night. Let’s hope it’s not as bad.
It's 2020. Expect apocalyptic.
I first heard when some fellow down in Lelani estates, site of the breakout, posted on Facebook that the road in front of his house had broken open and Hugh amounts of steam coming out, right before lava first appeared.
A bit misleading when the first clip is of Waikiki Beach on a different island. Oahu is over 200 miles away from Big Island.
Did they know it was going to erupt last night too on Dec 21, 2020?
Please upload full video.
Kilauea : Ok Let's expand the island
Need to worry more about Mauna Loa. That’s actually a more dangerous volcano on the island than Kilauea.
True I live on big island
Not really. Kilauea has caused far more destruction and has put far more people in danger. What ifs are exactly that. What ifs.
@@kevinwebster7868 Because Mauna Loa erupted when the population was small. Now there is a ton of development that wasn't there before
Its like a scene from a movie. The ground breaking and lava rising up.
Love this channel! And volcanoes are one of my favorite subjects to learn about.
Me too. I have always been fascinated by their pure power. Since I was a little girl and even now as a grown woman.
I'm here during the La Soufrière eruption in St. Vincent and the Grenadines ✋
Kilauea is back! 🌋
"The island will be changed forever!!!" jeez people, it's a constantly changing island! Get over yourselves.
LOL
Fun fact: lava made the ground lolxd
And it just erupted again today
No duh. Which is why they uploaded the video.
Did you noticed that Mayotte region had lots of major quakes at the same time?
The region is on the other side of the globe and has similar island spread like Hawaii.
Why is that?
Is it because of S and P waves or something else?
Informative video
Mount killauea :*About to erupt*
Smithsonian: ITS BRIGHTER HERE
Beautiful and terrifying at the same time
They knew, yet when this happens at Yellowstone it's "normal?" All I will say is volcanoes are unpredictable.
The richter scale isn't used anymore it's moment magnitude.
The Richter scale n moment magnitude scale measure the same thing
@@fractured2338 But the richter scale is flawed for great earthquakes hence Mw.
@Maria Dowler It's almost gone, I'm a geologist.
It was not the Kilauea crater that erupted, it was a new fissure that surfaced in Leilani Estates. Crazy to relive the footage. Thanks for the trip back in time 🤙
Nice. Big cracks in the ground opening up with lava and smoke coming out. Sounds like a good place for geothermal energy harvesting. 🔥⚡
nice vid
I went up to the rim of this crater in 1982 in Hawaii the big island
Why would u be near the Molton lava as it is emmiting toxic gases such as sulphur dioxide
I like how they show a clip of O'ahu in the beginning wen the volcano is on the Big island
Its brighter here is back
The Richter scale is no longer used.
When I was born an earth quake happened at Australia
This Will not be a lava eruption. Imagine a road that is above a magma. Terifying.
Year 2021, so many volcanos erupted all around the world, I think, this is the sign of coming God.
I bet there was no warning given, the usbs just sat on the info until she blasted. Way to go my most reliable source of info from the big island.
@Maria Dowler bruh you need to reportedly update the people not at just at the moment of disaster u fooollll !!!!
Like the great George Carlin said once "They build their houses next to an active volcano... and then they wonder why they have lava in the livingroom".
We pushed Mother Nature to her limits now she’s pushing back
I'm not sure how to tell you this but... Earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are not caused by people living in Hawaii.
What a profound experience to witness!!!👏👏👏👏👏
soo uhm..
update?
The proper and truthful answer is they didn’t know
I want to watch all this brilliant content but I am outside US and all I get are these little youtube videos.
Wait did this one have a big eruption cause that one is really active
I thought this was on the new eruption not the 2018 one.
How comes they donts put the liquids lava in fancy glass bottles and sell it to the tourists ?
How about Honolulu? What’s gonna happen if there’s volcano eruption 🌋?
Honolulu isn't on the big island of Hawaii where Kilauea is.
Where is the continuation

superman can swimming through in the melt lava...
melt lava is a not burn / not hurt / not ouch / not ruin him
OMG I WAS IN HAWAII ON THAT ISLAND I ALMOST DIED I SAW IT I SAW IT
Amazing 😳🤯🤓
Strangely they monitor it with a lot more than seismic and tilt meters!
So there’s pretty much no volcano on that island right ? Since the island itself is the volcano
I don't think you need to be a scientist to figure that out
When I went there and flew from oahu to the big island there was a recent lava flow and it smelled like someone farted. It didn't burn to the road so we could go past it and also it burnt out a while before so it was fine. Grandma lives on oahu so she's fine. They know because it's always erupting. It's not hard to be ready for
Real estate price better be cheap there
Ricter must have a big scale if thats what they use to weigh volcanos... sheesh
What about animals and birds?
is it possible for a helicopter to fly over magma and scoop up a bucket-full?

Run!
Yes son, it's lava. Just don't play around it like you would at home.😉
What will happen if someone fall into a active volcano??
Death
3:36 "Richter scale"? You should know better. It's the Moment Magnitude Scale. A science channel should know this.
hello there
I told scientist, its about to erupt. 😂😂😂
Hi there

Too wet. Eucalyptus and Pine also generate flammable gas clouds when heated (they give off eucalyptus oil and turpentine respectively).

Geothermal exploration caused this terrible disaster. Fissures opened up at every point being explored.
but can scientists predict when a wife is about to erupt?
Now I am sad
