Hi guys so I wanted a little perspective if possible. I am 13 weeks pregnant with twins. At the 12-week NT ultrasound they saw that baby B had thick lining behind her neck. We got the nipt blood work done and my doctor said it's 88% chance that one of the babies will have Down syndrome, presumably baby b. However we don't know which one. My doctors are advising that I get an amniocentesis for each baby and I'm so scared and nervous and unsure. They have also talked to me about termination of pregnancy and potentially trying again with IVF. I am 38 years old and I don't know that I can take this emotionally or physically again. I also want to try to keep as positive as possible and I'm just not sure what to do.

I know it’s hard to find out your baby has Down Syndrome but believe me, they are still your baby and you can and will love them as your own. I personally would quit on getting test done and keep both babies. The test don’t mean anything to you unless you are wanting to terminate.
You will be amazed at how they will connect and grow up through the years together. The one without Downs will be a stronger person, more compassionate and loving. They will watch out for the other one and it will be beautiful. You are so blessed to be in this situation. For both of them to grow up together. It will be beautiful.

Also, I am praying for you. It appears to be devastating, but trust me, it is not. Watch some other videos with my daughter. She is a pure joy and an essential part of my family. All of us have become better because of the gift God has given us. Trust me when I tell you, Down Syndrome is not the end of the world.

Praying for you! I cannot imagine how difficult this all must be. That gut instinct you have to keep your babies alive is not a random feeling. It is a God-given instinct he has wired in you to defend and protect your children. There is nothing you will face alone. He will go before and behind you, and as Lei said, Downs is not a death sentence. It's an opportunity to enjoy your child in a unique and deep felt way! My situation is not the same, but I do have a young son with autism and I wouldn't trade him for the world. God has shown his faithfulness to us and has given him a beautiful mind that is able to see the world in wonderful ways! Please do not hesitate to reach out to Leilani if you need encouragement or prayer through this. She is a perfect source for the very situation you are in and it is no mistake that you found her channel and this video. 🖤 Hugs!

But she has surprised me and has done much better than I thought! She has been so strong ( much stronger than I was). This precious precious baby has awoken so many things in me that I didn't know I had! I am expecting a baby in a few weeks who has screened positive for DS. I know that I have not fully accepted it emotionally, even though I know, in my head, that it’s happening.
    I am scared and sad.
I am scared for his future. I am scared that there is something wrong that the doctors can’t see and that we will lose him. I am scared to tell people that he has Down Syndrome because people are unkind.
And I am sad that I feel all of these fears.

And it's okay to feel all of these feelings. It's comforting to know too, survival rate for babies with DS is high. You will do this and you will get through this. My parents kept wondering how she looked different features wise. However, we got to know about her condition after 15 days when she had some issues and we rushed her to the hospital. I think we need to strike a balance. Parents should be told having a Downs baby can be fulfilling and wonderful, but also very difficult with heart surgeries, cancer, delayed or absent speech, behavioural issues, intellectual and physical disabilities and short life expectancy.
We should never discriminate or dismiss the value of the lives of people with Downs, but parents can’t be lied to and told it’ll be easy.

Our experiences were so similar! I was so heart broken at only 24 years old. She was my first child. I was scared and knowing she had to have heart surgery and also another surgery from another gi related birth defect… Omg my heart ached. They had to airlift her to the children’s hospital at 18 hours old. I made the doctors discharge me so I could drive 80 miles to go be with her. It was a hard time for me. I didn’t know ANYTHING about DS and I felt so lost and thought I did something wrong.. it was a very emotional time. But as time went on her father and I learned all about trisomy 21.. we educated ourselves, read all the books, we bonded with our child, I remember on the way home from the hospital I said her name and she opened her eyes and looked at me 🥺 omg my heart melted. She was so adorable. Like a little baby doll…
Looking back I feel so silly for crying… she is sweet and sassy and tells me no. She’s 6 now, She has 2 younger siblings now, she loves to sing and play. She is getting stronger all the time. Do we have like 8 doctors? Yes. Do we have therapy? Yes. But it’s so worth it. I wouldn’t trade her for the world.

He already had one surgery and will require at least one more this year. The love a momma feels for her child with special needs is unlike any other love in this world. I love my typically developing daughter so crazy much but the love I feel for my son with down syndrome is different. Oh my goodness, this sounds so much like what we went through before birth and right after. Midwife saw a couple of markers (bright spot on the heart and absent nasal bone) and did a screener, which showed an increased likelihood of DS. She referred us to the mfm, who saw NO markers, and no heart defects after looking at her heart alone for more than an hour! Total ultrasound time was closer to an hour and a half or two hours. Went back soooooo many times, and every scan was reassuring, no markers were ever found, and my husband was confident she didn’t have DS. I thought she might, but was glad she wouldn’t need heart surgery. We’re 15 days into a NICU stay now with our perfect little baby, and her extra chromosome, and she has a complete AV canal defect. She didn’t transition well and started to get grayish after they cut her umbilical cord. I’m so ready to go home, and they’ve gotten her 02 under control (even though she has baseline low saturation bc of her heart), but now they are flipping the script and saying that she has to meet certain feeding goals before they will discharge her. She is still above birth weight, they aren’t letting her eat on demand, but on an every 3 hours schedule, for only within a 30 min window, and the drs have pushed hard for bottle feeding pumped milk, as opposed to just nursing. I’m so discouraged.

I just found this video and I'm absolutely in love ♡ I'm 40 and pregnant with my 2nd child. I haven't announced this to my friends and ALL of my family yet but the genetic testing came back inconclusive. After waiting 5 long weeks. The Dr told me when these tests come back like this they automatically delete from the system. So I did another blood test and I'm waiting for those results to come back. I felt numb when the genetic specialist told me there's a chance your baby boy could have down syndrome. But like you and your husband me and my husband are choosing to keep him and love him no matter what ♡ Thank you for posting this video. Your daughter is absolutely gorgeous BTW 😍

I too was 38. Pregnant with an unplanned totally miracle baby. My husband had been advised he was sterile due to a verified medical condition. At my 20 week scan it was determined my baby had downs. I was asked to do an amniocentesis which I refused. I was then sent to an expert in Pennsylvania who could tell you with certainty whether your baby was a downs baby. This doctor was very through. The scan lasted close to an hour. He looked at the neck for thickness. Measured femur for length. Many other things. He looked at my husband who is short and stocky. He gave us a diagnosis of 50/50. We had decided previously no matter what we were having this little boy. At his birth there was a rather quick moment where nobody was in the room but my husband and I. Midwife had went to dinner thinking it would be several more hours.my husband delivered his son. What a moment that was. Our baby didn't cry he just looked up at his father. I managed to hit the call button and a nurse arrived and ran out to get our midwife. Before we cut the cord she looked at my baby's hands. Apparently downs babies do not have lines on their palms at first..We had never heard of this but there were lines on his little palms and so he was not downs. Hes 26 now and although I've told him his story I don't believe he understands what a miracle he is. As of now I know several couples who have been blessed with a baby with downs and they are the light of their lives. My first child was born with cerebral palsy and hearing impaired so I know how much love and commitment it takes to raise a child with disabilities. I believe only really special parents are chosen. Your story touched my heart and brought back all my many feelings during my own uncertainty. Your little one is a beautiful child. ❤

That’s crazy and that makes me sad too. That’s why I’m never ashamed to bring Naomi with me places and show her off. I figure the more people see her and get to know her, the more they see she is a person with feelings too.
I remember too, I didn’t mention this in the video, but when I first got the official diagnoses, for a moment, just a moment I was disgusted. But then I looked at her and saw that she was scared and needed me. I could see it all over her face and I fell in love instantly.
Yes! She keeps me running. I’m debating whether or not to talk about the “struggle” on RUclips - cause it’s real!

Hello there. I just found your video about your PRECIOUS daughter Naomi Eve. I can see and hear why I think God blessed you in such an amazing way. You are honest, transparent, compassionate, committed and have a heart for others. WOW!! I have a young friend that is the daughter of our pastor. Her third child was born with Downs. God has so richly blessed her, her husband, their children (who are in college now) and EVERYONE else that has come in contact with their son Dawson. Every baby, is created by the hand of God. He knows them before you. He has a plan. God does not make mistakes. I am praying for you and your family. 🙏💜

This really hot home. My sister was terrified to meet my son who was born with a cleft lip and palate. I completely understood her fears but assured her everything was okay and he was not in any pain. Once she met him she fell in love and her fears were gone. Nobody looked at him different. When kids would look at him in the store I would carry him over to them and explain that he was born with a “broken” lip. Sometimes the parents would thank me. He looked different and that was confusing to him. Fast forward 21 years and my sisters grand daughter was also born with a cleft lip and palate. The way we handled it with our son helped her and her daughter to not be so scared or intimidated by what was to come. I was able to give helpful advise to my niece and explain some things to expect. I absolutely love how you worded your Facebook post. Your daughter is amazing. Having a child born different really does change a person and sometimes we just need that change.

I watched your channel before my grand Daughter Eden was born Aug. 7, 2020. I grew up with a Down Syndrome little boy on my block in Los Angeles in the early 60's. My mother brought us up to look at everyone the same and we did. Back in 1990's I had the privilege to help host a Biker event called the Beach Ride. It was for the Exceptional children's foundation in LA. So when my grand daughter was born, I too feel it is a blessing. She has two older sister that just love her, and my (step)daughter is so wonderful with her. She has been lucky to not have too many health challenges yet, but knowing what might be, we are ready to all deal with it and love her to pieces. Thank you again for sharing your family with us. I do not have a down syndrome child, but I love, love ,love them!!! My older sisters were supervisors in a group home where there was a down syndrome girl and she was sassy and funny and made us laugh all the time. When I got married I was a monitor on a special needs school bus and the downs kids were always happy and very friendly. I had my first daughter at 36 yrs old and like you my amniocentisis came back negative for downs but the day she was born , her features looked downs so the nurse came over to us and told us she was being taken to the NICU to be tested for downs. And ,my husband, knowing how much I love those kids, saw how excited I got( not the normal parents reaction I know) and said " Becki, you shouldn't want her to have that, that's selfish of you!" But I couldn't help it! Every downs baby I've met is so happy all the time and when they grow up they are just a hoot to kid around with! That same daughter is now graduating college next year with a degree to work with special needs kids, so she feels the same way I do! Down Syndrome children are a special gift from GOD and I must say I envy all of you who GOD has blessed with one! My daughter is getting married in Sept. of this year and her and her husband have been talking about adopting a downs baby. I would be in my GLORY!!!!!
