LYRICS:
I remember my old man, he worked in the oil field
And I could never understand why
With dirt and grease on his hands, driving home at sundown
Making just enough to get us by
When I left home, I swore I’d make it rich some other way
I didn’t know where I was going, but my dad would always say
“Pray out loud, make us proud, and son,
Don’t forget where you come from.”
A few years out on the road working on the high lines
But got laid off in the spring
I mowed yards and sold used cars, worked nights down at the bar
Yeah I tried damn near everything
I had to find my own way no matter what he said
But the sound of his voice was still ringing in my head
“Pray out loud, make us proud, and son,
Don’t forget where you come from.”
I went home to be by Daddy’s side before he passed away
And I never will forget the last words I heard him say
“Pray out loud, make us proud, and son,
Don’t forget where you come from.”
Now I’m breaking ground on my own oceans of oil fields
Making more money every day
A big house in San Antone, I’m living the good life
I’m back home and here to stay
And no matter where I am, each night before I fall asleep
I always think of what my daddy said to me
“Pray out loud, make us proud, and son,
Don’t forget to..
Pray out loud, make us proud, and son,
Don’t forget where you come from.”
I remember my old man
He worked in the oil field
And now I understand why

Country singer, songwriter, and producer Kyle Park was born in 1985 in Austin, Texas and raised in Leander, Texas, just north of Austin. He started playing guitar at the age of 14 and had written his first song by the time he was 15. After graduating from Leander High School, Park attended Texas State University for a couple years, but left school to focus on music full-time, playing music in the local clubs and assembling a band. In 2005 Park released his debut album, Big Time, through local label Lazy S.O.B. Recordings. In 2008 he founded his own music label, Kyle Park Music, and brought out a second album, Anywhere in Texas. A pair of EPs followed two years later, Spring 2010 and Fall 2010, which were then remixed and combined with six additional tracks to form 2011′s full-length Make or Break Me; both EPs and the album, all released by Winding Road Music, made the Country Albums chart, with Make Me or Break Me peaking at number 53. A fourth full-length, Beggin' for More, appeared in the spring of 2013, and the leadoff track, “The Night Is Young,” was a solid hit in Texas; by this time, Park was playing as many as 175 shows each year, and the road work was paying off, with Park developing a devoted following in the Southwest as well as launching short tours of Europe. In 2015 Park’s label landed a distribution deal with Thirty Tigers, and in October of that year Park released his fifth full-length album, The Blue Roof Sessions. Kyle’s sixth studio album (2018), Don’t Forget Where You Come From, leans exactly in the direction you would expect. Inspired by the style of music he grew up listening to, this new album is a return to Kyle’s signature neo-traditional country sound brimming with honkytonk-fueled fiddle, pedal steel and searing guitar riffs punctuated by his most honest and contemplative lyrics to date.

First for me to hear, April 14, 2024 it's a beautiful song. Thank you. I always pray once a day. Thankful, even when I'm sad. ❤️🇺🇲
Thank God that there are people still making music with steel guitar.

Proud wife of an oilfield fisherman. Heaven holds that hard working, humble, man of mine. But I will forever, hold his heart. He left an imprint in the patch and in my heart and the hearts of our Sons. His legacy lives on in the field and in all of our hearts. God Bless You, ✝️

I'm also from India
I love country music so much that I can't get enough to listen everyday😊😊
BTW I'm only 17😅
We love you. Prayers for what's going on over there
Who even asked?
Read the Bible, and be blessed by the work of your hands
I do, I pray for others never thyself . They receive an amazing day.
My dad taught me everything important in life work ethic and giving back.
I love this song because my dad used to work on the oil rigs out in the Gulf of Mexico until he got laid off in the spring 3 years ago and he preaches this to me constantly about not forgetting where I come from. He also tells me family means more than money, be there for your family. Also he tells me to don’t be afraid of my Christianity and to pray out-loud.
Did he ever get another job?
Amen
I give it dad all the prayers

We’re still listening to this out here in west texas in the oil patch. Resonates more now than ever.
These kinda songs are reason i love country music they tell stories about real life 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I worked the patch, my driller was also my best friend whom I put durt on not long ago. I pray our kids remember where they come from. Thank you for this song
I should start with this prayer 😊
God stop all who are lying in Jesus Christ's name amen.
Who is lying?
Why doesn’t this song have millions of views
Ghostly Drifter Now it does!
it defends itself without milion views, it gets hearts of those few who love it
Bc the media only wants rap and things against actual real strugglers and real ways of life along with life lessons
Ghostly Drifter because a lot people don’t know the meaning of work, starting out small and making it big. You can still have money and still be humble.
Ghostly Drifter it has 3.4 now lol
My dad worked as a coal miner from before I was born until the day he died. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about him. This song hits right in the heart for me.
Praise the Lord, praise your upbringing, praise your parents. If you are here you either are going to reach to the lord or looking to seek him. The lord is the answer to all, and praise him for being our savior
May God 🙏 bless all the men who chose Jesus Christ amen 🙏💖🙏
Why is this song not getting no air play. This is a real country song
That's why unfortunately country is dying :(
He does in Austin....but its also real country music and not pop country
Because it’s real Texas country and not cliche propaganda country from Tennessee
My mom works at the radio station here in Nebraska and does the red dirt Wednesday show. Plays it all the time now
I hear him on the radio in north east arkansas. His music is real country
My prayers are whispering words in my head and then the music starts
I’ll never forget where I came from. It doesn’t change who I am today & I’m proud of it.
Love you too 😂
,
Me either. I come from coal miners
I'm sitting here thinking about my little brother that died 4 years ago... I lost my sh!t... cost me my career and everything... kept my faith and kept pushing forward... now I'm not rich with money but I'm rich with love.

Appreciate your family man I lost my oldest brother in December and still doesn’t seem real I still like think he’s out there somewhere and that he’ll be home soon but then it hits that he’s gone for good and it just wrecks me to think about it anymore

The song is great...
R.I.P. and may God bless his soul. I lost mine too last year. I know how you feel. This song is my life.
Reminds me of my life with my daddy working oil rigs back home in Oklahoma. Miss him dearly.
Thanks be to The Great Lord Jesus for a new day. This song is great we need to hear more like it !!! ✝️
My dad was a boiler tech, he passed away July 28... Less than a month after my 22 birthday. Me being in the Army, the process to get me home from where Campbell when the docs diagnosed his case was paperwork, but it happened. I wasn't down there a week before he passed from stage iv lung cancer, metastatic to ribs and brain with an abscessed bowel. Mom was running and errand and wife was visiting her grandfather who also passed around the same time, so I was there alone with him when he passed. Most hard working man I've ever known, everyone knew him for it. Working hard nonstop from 14 to his last moments at 62 years old. Miss my dad so much, and I love him. I pray he's proud of me while he's looking down from heaven.
Thank you for your service and may your father rest in peace, brother.
I'm sorry for your loss. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. Please believe your Dad is with you and very proud of the man you are. God Bless...
Man your dad is proud of u and what u are doing just know he loves u man god bless
MrAwesomedude96 God bless you and your family...
Really sorry for your loss. Lung cancer is horrible. He was right about praying though, even in difficult times.
My mum had cancer two years ago (she's in remission now) and bizarrely it's through her illness that I found God again. You Dad sounds like he was a great man. You should be proud.
" l am the daughter of an auto workers". Forever grateful for the industry that provided for my family. I have been fortunate enough to obtain a formal education; however, hardworking and common sense will always trump my education.

GOD BLESS YOU BROTHER!!!!
I come from a family that has always broke their back to support their family and I'm just another chapter of that tradition. My hope is every parents hope. That my kids will find a different road to take.
I worked in the oil fields until biden got in the office
Now I set in a chair on my porch and remember the 16 hour days of hard work
I don't know what the future holds or what will become of me I trust in God to get me to where he wants me
Never heard this song until now. Reminds me of my dad who worked in the oilfield until the day he died. I followed his foot steps for many years and continued to pray. Today God has me on a different path working in the mission field. Sometimes I need to hear a song like this to remind me where I came from.
Been through the highs and lows of the oil industry with both my Dad and my Husband. My Dad worked harder than any man I've ever known just to give us the needs, not the greeds. We hardly ever saw him due to work but we always knew that we were loved. Still live in the middle of the oil fields of West Texas and still thank God for my Dad. We lost him in 2000, but he's lives on in our hearts. I can't imagine living anywhere else.....
😄I'm very pls to know I'm not the only one that loves😍 the song but when last did you play it.
Never worked a day in the oilfields. Spent mine in a papermill. Always prayed my son would join me there one day. Didn't work out. Shut it down when he was young. He graduated a few years back. Since then he's been from West Texas to North Dakota doin things I've never imagined in the oilfields. I'm proud he found his place and I'm damn proud of him. Stay safe an keep it turnin to the right son. Stay humble before God and never ever forget where you come from...
I miss you dad. I just wanna say you that I will make you proud 💞. We will meet again in the heaven
I recently saw Kyle Park at the Lone Star Jam and let me tell you this song live gives you more chills. Keep the songs coming. This song should also have millions of views
I've worked in the oilfields myself. My dad has worked on every side of production for 20 years and my mom has worked on the customer side of selling oil for 29 years.

Okay this is officially one of my new favorite songs! My daddy works in the oil fields in Oklahoma to support me and mama and he only gets to come home for 5 days every 10 days. He works anywhere from 18 to 24 hours a day. Sometimes day shift and sometimes night. Although I don't fully understand why he busts his butt so much I know deep in my heart that he's doing it for his family and I am so proud of him for it. God Bless you Kyle for paying homage to the hard working man. It is a thankless job and thanks is truly what these men need to hear.

He went in for kidney stone surgery as the docs found a long long ball sized stone in his right kidney. Docs said it had to be grown for.at least 8 years. He still went to work in all much pain that we didn't know but he never once said a thing. Two weeks after the surgery i his first day back i warmed the car up as i worked nights. The last thing i said to my dad was i love you! 45 mins later my older brother wakes me up and says dad was invovled im an accident and their rushing him to the hoslital before we could get there he passed from a heart attack..The most toughest s.o.b I've ever known.
