I love this song because my dad used to work on the oil rigs out in the Gulf of Mexico until he got laid off in the spring 3 years ago and he preaches this to me constantly about not forgetting where I come from. He also tells me family means more than money, be there for your family. Also he tells me to don’t be afraid of my Christianity and to pray out-loud.

    I remember my old man
He worked in the oil fields
And I could never understand why
The dirt and greese on his hands
    Driving home at sundown
Making just enough to get us by
When I left home I swore I'd make it rich some other way
I didn't know where I was going but my dad would always say
"Pray out loud, make us proud, and son don't forget where you come from."
A few years out on the road
    Working on the high lines
I got laid off in the spring
I mowed yards and sold used cars
I worked nights down at the bars
Yeah I tried damn near everything
I had to find my own way no matter what he said
But the sound of his voice was still ringing in my head
"Pray out loud, make us proud, and son don't forget where you come from."
And I went home to be by daddy's side before he passed away
And I never will forget the last words I heard him say
"Pray out loud, make us proud, and son don't forget where you come from."
Now I'm breaking ground on my own
    Oceans of oil fields
And my hands get dirty every day
A big house in San Antone
    I'm living the good life
But my home seems far away
No matter where I am each night before I fall asleep
I'll always think of what my daddy said to me
"Pray out loud, make us proud and son don't forget to pray out loud make us proud, and son don't forget where you come from."
    I remember my old man
He worked in the oil fields
And now I understand why 🇮🇳🛫love from India 🌎I love America

My dad was a boiler tech, he passed away July 28... Less than a month after my 22 birthday. Me being in the Army, the process to get me home from where Campbell when the docs diagnosed his case was paperwork, but it happened. I wasn't down there a week before he passed from stage iv lung cancer, metastatic to ribs and brain with an abscessed bowel. Mom was running and errand and wife was visiting her grandfather who also passed around the same time, so I was there alone with him when he passed. Most hard working man I've ever known, everyone knew him for it. Working hard nonstop from 14 to his last moments at 62 years old. Miss my dad so much, and I love him. I pray he's proud of me while he's looking down from heaven.

Never worked a day in the oilfields. Spent mine in a papermill. Always prayed my son would join me there one day. Didn't work out. Shut it down when he was young. He graduated a few years back. Since then he's been from West Texas to North Dakota doin things I've never imagined in the oilfields. I'm proud he found his place and I'm damn proud of him. Stay safe an keep it turnin to the right son. Stay humble before God and never ever forget where you come from...

Been through the highs and lows of the oil industry with both my Dad and my Husband. My Dad worked harder than any man I've ever known just to give us the needs, not the greeds. We hardly ever saw him due to work but we always knew that we were loved. Still live in the middle of the oil fields of West Texas and still thank God for my Dad. We lost him in 2000, but he's lives on in our hearts. I can't imagine living anywhere else.....

Okay this is officially one of my new favorite songs! My daddy works in the oil fields in Oklahoma to support me and mama and he only gets to come home for 5 days every 10 days. He works anywhere from 18 to 24 hours a day. Sometimes day shift and sometimes night. Although I don't fully understand why he busts his butt so much I know deep in my heart that he's doing it for his family and I am so proud of him for it. God Bless you Kyle for paying homage to the hard working man. It is a thankless job and thanks is truly what these men need to hear.

Them old school drilling rigs separated the men from the boys and/or would turn a boy into a man. One thing is for sure, you was gonna make a hand or you was gonna hit the road.

My dad was a truck repairman all his life. I still remember his passing I was the last to see him alive. He went in for kidney stone surgery as the docs found a long long ball sized stone in his right kidney. Docs said it had to be grown for.at least 8 years. He still went to work in all much pain that we didn't know but he never once said a thing. Two weeks after the surgery i his first day back i warmed the car up as i worked nights. The last thing i said to my dad was i love you! 45 mins later my older brother wakes me up and says dad was invovled im an accident and their rushing him to the hoslital before we could get there he passed from a heart attack..The most toughest s.o.b I've ever known.

My grandfather was the guy I looked up to in life, Worked on his family farm as a kid, walked 2 miles to a one-room school house carrying firewood to keep it warm for the day every day. served in the 82nd airborne during ww2 and was a master carpenter the rest of his life. Built his own house from scratch and taught me everything I know to survive off the grid. his last word he spoke to my family some 7 years ago still play in my head when I think of him.
