If you had this experience growing up and your papa is now gone, there is a 100% chance this will bring tears
It brings tears every time I hear it.
Good tears though. Idk about you but I’m lucky as shit to have the Papa I had. Man I miss him
@@jimmybonse7151 I feel exactly the same way.
Very close, my grandparents are all gone, but NEVER FORGOTTEN!
Yep...
My grandfather took me shooting for the first time when I was 8. I remember he handed me a little 22 Remington. Told me to "point it down at that stump" he helped me put it to my shoulder. "Pull the trigger when your ready" and bang my first shot fired. He helped me shoot for the rest of the day. He bought me my first rifle a 308 Winchester. Good memories! On Christmas morning in 2011 he pulled me aside from everyone else, told me hes got cancer and that when he passes he wants me to have his guns. He pulled a long box out and said "dont open it until I'm gone." The day he passed I opened the box, it was his m1 grand and 1911 from ww2 along with a hand written letter from my pappy. It was about how this rifle had saved his life and how he traded a few bullets for a can of beans. I still have every single one of his guns except my 308 which my son has now and I taught him to shoot at the same stump with the same little 22 remington. That man changed my life I couldnt have asked for anything more. Thanks for the read y'all. Be safe out there. And god bless.
I wish i could tell him thank you for your service but im sorry for your loss he sounds like a great man
Amen
Me to 😓😭😭😰😦😧😨😩
This is so powerful thanks this makes me think of my grandfather a Vietnam veteran
Thanks I need that I didn't get to go hunting he passed before
This song means so much to me. I cry every time I hear it.. rest in peace to all the grandads that helped make us who we are.

+Frederick Rose we never realize how much we miss them till they are gone..... I lost one of my grandfathers in a house fire..... I tried to save him but nothing could be done..... the firefighters couldn't even get in the house to rescue him because the roof collapsed a couple days before he had just given me his first shotgun that he bought back in the 50s when he was 17
Sgt. Paul grimes. My grandpa, navy cross holder from Vietnam war. he isn’t with us anymore, but his gun will be with me till I pass it on to my grandson. He Taught me the discipline behind firearm when I was very very young
My great grandfather was the one to teach me how to shoot my first gun. He always used the same one with me. When he passed, my great grandmother said he told her to give me "Grandpa's gun". When I finally got, I held it to my shoulder and started crying. It's not the same to shoot it without him by my side telling me all kinds of stories. I miss him so much. I love you, Great Grandpa. Rest easy, you old man. I'll see you again someday.
Here ya go...
@residentJokeBidenGuns are like women, the secret is in how you hold them
Us sons want to do nothing but make our father smile with mum right there to just remember kids love your parents
Thank you🌟💙🕊❤
Listening to this again, about two years since last time.
My grandad ended his life, ( from what we call today, PTSD after war trauma ) when I was five years old in 1982.
And my dad passed a year ago. The gun is a bit rusty, but still fits like a glove, the time has come to try and fit out a new one. But grandaddys gun aint for sale.
My baby picked this song for his Pappys (my daddys) funeral. The bond they had is one of the most special things I've ever witnessed. We miss him so much.
Hey I’m sorry mine just left he gave me my first gun a 20 gauge shot gun I still miss him

Absolutely love that phrase
So far I've found I'm alot better with a gun than i am with a woman
Sad we don’t hear this on the radio

So sad that our 1st amendment isn't actually used

My grandfather was my hero. He was a Marine in Korea. He saved our family farm. I miss him.
This song brings back such fond memories of my grandpa. He taught me to shoot starting at 5 years old with a old marlin model 25 and a few years later with an old single shot 12ga and a ruger mk2. The skills he taught me have saved my life and kept my family fed a number of times. Lord do I ever miss that man everyday.

Just saw this for the first time. Broke me. I still and always will have my Granddaddy's gun. It was what I learned to shoot with. He died in 1972 and the world is a lesser place without him. I have 7 Grandkids now and plan to pass his and mine to them. God bless ya Aaron.
As a Border Patrol agent, it's an honor to have Aaron wear our cap for this video. God bless you sir!
My granddaddy rocked one all day every day no matter where we went it was always that hat...
God bless you too buddy. Thanks for trying to protect the border
My papaw had a rifle that he got from his grandfather and I got three years ago when he passed. One day when I have a grandkid it’s gonna go to them. That rifle is something that means so much to my family and it’s my favorite of all three I have.
Seven years ago I lost my grandpa, I got his 1961 Remington 870 wingmaster, every time I shoulder his gun, he is there with me, like he has been my whole life.
Lost my father 2.5 years ago. I still cry 43 seconds into the video. I'm currently going through his guns to share with family
You never realize how many memories a song can bring back until you listen to it
I remember everything my grandfather taught me like it was just yesterday but unfortunately he passed on going on two years now
I can say this to everyone that is still fortunate to have their grandparents it doesn’t hurt to go spend a few hours with them even if it’s late in the evening as long as you do it because when the hood lord decides it’s time you won’t have that chance again
Never walk out without saying I love you I promise you it hurts not getting to see a grandparent
I'm constantly depressed because I used to spend every weekend with my grandpa and then when I became an adult with a family I didn't have time for him anymore he died 3 days before a BBQ I planned with him I have so many regrets

I never had a grandfather to any of that stuff with. I shot my first gun when I was 12. It was dad's 12 Guage. Back in 2011. Dad got me into hunting and fishing. I'm very greatful for that. 😊
Wow what a song . I was fortunate enough to have my Pa for 42 years. I spent most every summer with him and my Granny Ann. When I become a teenager as some do made some really poor decisions and became addicted to alcohol and drugs. Dropped out of school and saw no future in sight. They took me in and I graduated with their love and prayers. He taught me so much and glad I had him in my life. He was and still is an amazing man in my life. Thanks Pa.
My peepaw is still around to this day and will be turning 80 this January 25th. It’s amazing to know he’s still around and better yet. Here I am 23. A Marine Corps Veteran now, married and my wife and I are now gonna be having our first kid in September and he will not just be grandpa anymore but a great grandpa.
How’s it going king.
I have many guns, but the one that will NEVER be sold is my grandfather's Ithica Model 37 feather light 16 Gauge. That thing kicks so hard it hurts my jaw, but is a treasure that will stay in my family
Allen Jacques 16 guages kick hard , a 8 guage kicks even worse tho man 😂
Allen Gramps had the same model16. She had pheasants engraved. Miss the smell.
I have my grandpas 1949 Stevens double barrel 16 gauge.never leaving me
I’v got my granddads Ithaca model 37 featherlight in 20 gauge. Best thing
@@Matt01pt an 8 gauge? Ive heard of them
My father in law is leaving guns to his oldest grandson (my son) and his youngest grandson (my 5 yr old nephew). They both are happy to have something of Paps when he's gone ❤
I'm a granddaughter, so I didn't get this experience growing up, nor have I ever used a gun, but I still teared up. It makes me miss my grandfathers so much, especially my paternal one. We didn't get to spend a lot of time together as I grew up once he moved to Georgia but I adored him more because of it. My maternal grandfather and I weren't close until the last few years of his life, but he still lived with us for 20 years and that left it's own mark on me. Cancer took them all too soon, before I could fully appreciate them. Anyone who has grandparents, cherish them.
This song, whenever I hear it, reminds of the day I got my Grandpa's Model 94. It was after he passed and Dad said, "Your Grandpa wanted this to go you". Brings a tear (and several more) to my eye.
My grandfather was a fiercely intelligent and cold man, tough as iron and the patient provider for his family.
He's in his 90s now and deep in the late stages of dementia. I was his first grandson, and he doesn't know me, or his daughter. Sometimes he doesn't even know his wife of 60 years.
I found his baby footprints in a pile of documents sorting through his belongings the other day, amazing how life goes so quickly. One day you're an infant, next you're gone. Fast enough that a piece of paper can be testament to your entire existence.
Things don't mean much, but I was left his old Ithaca 37- absolutely pristine as he only ever hunted with his brother. I'll keep it as best I can and send it down the line when I get old.
Something to remember the old man by when his kids and grandkids are gone.
This is my favorite song from Aaron. The lyrics mirror my relationship with my grandpa.
I miss him.
This is the first song I heard Arron sing, and I have been a fan ever since! Thank you for all you do Arron!🇺🇸
That breakdown at 3:12 to finish the song is soooo soulful. Beautiful.
I never got to meet my Grandpa, all I am ever told is he was a good man and I believe that I was given his gun from his childhood a few years ago. I wish I could’ve met him. Rest In Peace
Man I feel for ya there bro because I never got to meet my grandpa (WW2 vet) either he died in 85 11years before I was born but I got his old single shot iver Johnson 12ga and his 1979 f150 which was the last vehicle he bought before he died and I'll always cherish them and the pictures and stores I've been told about him
My father volunteered for Ranger training in early WWII. I believe he felt that the Nazis had to be stopped no matter the personal cost. He survived D-day and the Battle of Sar River. He came home, seriously wounded, but not broken. Got married, started a business, raised us 3 kids, sending us all through college. He never spoke of the 'War' to his kids but he clearly had been changed by it. Iam thankful for his service and make sure my 4 kids know his story.
Have my Grandpa's rifle and blessed to have had him until I was 41 and he was 93. Love you forever, Grandpa.
This song hits hard. I was 13 when I got my grandfathers gun I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world
I feel u I got a 22 revolver and it got stolen and sold for drugs by my family
I got all of my great grandfathers guns when I turned 18 and would not ever get rid of them ever
Never give up on it bro.
My father passed 12 years ago, but this past weekend, I invited my son over to his grandmother's house. We listened to this song while we tore apart and cleaned one of his granddaddy's guns. My father was not around, but my mother and I passed it on to him. My grandfather never passed a gun to me, but I know my father would have wanted me to do this. Maybe I can do the same for my daughter soon. ;-)
My grandpa gave me a browning BPS before he knew he was going to pass. Can't put a number on that gun. Wish I could hug his big belly again. Love ya pa!
I love the song but unfortunately it's a sad one for me. I'm 51 years old and I didn't have a father or a grandfather in my life to love me, mentor me, teach me etc.
Makes me feel for all the fatherless children in the world. But encourages me to teach and tell young men that we all have a heavenly father who loves and cares for us more than we could ever comprehend. And all that he has and is is at our disposal when we come to the understanding that He is our all in all..
This song took me back to when I first learned to shoot, first shotgun i shot was my great grandpa’s, and i lost my great grandpa last year. This song brought back all the memories of my early shooting days and it makes me realize how far i came in my shooting career. Great Grandpa Jim, you will be missed. It also made me think of all the times my dad and my grandpa helped me get to the point i am with shooting sports. Whether it is a shotgun or a knife, anything that a grandparent, great grandparent, or parent gives us, it means way more to us than it does to anyone else.
My granddaddy is still kicking. I'm 1500 miles away. This song reminded me of him. I can still hear his advice. "If you take care or it..it'll take care of you". Greatest man I know! Love you Yandaddy!
It isn't only in reference to guns, Grandpas are wise men and are your best friend. I still got the necklace of my Grandma he gave me when she died, not only because it reminds me of her but because it reminds me of him as well. I was yougn when she died, a man when he died. I understood what it was mean to be, a reminder for the good times with BOTH of them, and hope you can understand this too :) It is rough losing an icon in your life, but you realize they are there for you whenever you need the, just need to learn how to speak to them ;) Keep on keepin' on bro!
Grandpa took me out shooting when I turned 13 and said you take care of it and it will take care of you this song sure does bring back a lot of memories but I'll never get rid of this gun!!
Thank you for this song! I have my grandfather's guns as he has passed on now. You gave me back a long lost connection! Thank you so much brother!
Thank GOD I can pass on my papaw's guns to my son. The world needs more men like this who teach their kids and grandkids right from wrong.
This song brings back so many memories. I was lucky enough to inherit a 410. From my grandpa. He taught me to hunt and how to nap. So many memories. It's worth more then anyone could pay me.
You know, my grand dad is a veteran of WW2 and I really Love him. I know all of us Love our grandfathers. Thank for so emotional video! Respecf from belarussian police officer.
in 1922....at the age of 12...my grandpa bought his first gun at sears and roebuck...a double barrel 12 gauge...he hunted with it for years...after he passed in 1963...my father got it...my father is 75 now...and he is passing it down to me this week...i told my son who is 22...when i get to old to use it...it will be passed to him...this song hit me pretty hard..."it aint worth much but it dam sure aint for sale" really means something to me...thank you for this song...it really brought tears to my eyes with the memories flooding back.
My dad and i heard this song for the first time together over the fourth of july, standing in a crowd of people yelling and screaming and talking, we both heard the song and listended carefully and we both were tearing up and just gave each other a hug, like the song sais, its not about what you kill with the gun its the experiences and centimental value u get from things like this. no matter how much an item could be like a gun, the centimental value for materialistic things always over rules actual value.
Ty David Actually I i am not s little kid im 15 so fuck you, and I was never handed anything I have always got to earn things even on Christmas by cutting tobacco and my mom and my brother died last year so I have lost something valuable. So fuck you
And before you respond with "fuck you" know that I would gladly slap the soul out of you
THAT'S RUDE
YOU ARE 15 THATS 3 YEARS TELL YOU ARE GROAN YOU ARE NOT NO KID

I hope my granddaughter appreciates this, watching her take her first deer was one of the best mornings of my life
I get tears in my eyes everytime I hear this song. While I wasn't quite old enough for grandpa to teach me to shoot before he passed. I do have his guns, and feel the exact same way about them. I learned with one of them and cherish them more than any other.
Grandparents are the most important people in the world. They are our link to the past and the example for our future.
My papaw gave my gun at age 8 i still have it hanging on the wall im glad he gave me it and i got his stuff he had in the air force and got his hunting knife that still had his deer hair in it didnt take it off the knife and he just passed away 7 days before Christmas 2021 i miss you and love you papaw very much your always on my mind and in my dreams ill never forget you , your the best person ill ever know and you give your shirt off your back to anyone everyone loved you and you was a good guy to know
My husband passed a little over a year ago. He was adopted by a man age 50 and wife 49 when he was 18 mths old. They were simple country folk and he loved them dearly. He called them Mom and Pop.
Pop took him hunting and fishing from the time he was 4 until he became ill and passed.
My husband didn't have any sons and the daughters didn't like the outdoors. So it was him and I out there hunting and fishing. My husband became disabled before his first grandchild, a boy was born. That boy called him Papa. We ended up raising him from 10 mths on.
By golly, disability aside, he taught him to shoot every gun he had. He taught him to fish and to hunt. Always told him, "Boy, only shoot what the family needs to eat. There's others out there needing the same."
When my husband passed, that grandson was 13. Papa handed down all of Pops guns to that little man. I feel like in many ways that song is about Pop, Papa and his boy.
I am so sorry
I love all the heart felt stories on this video yours really moves me
Your post just touched my heart💖
TEARS IN MY EYES READING THIS. BUT IT WAS GOOD TEARS. BLESS HIM AND YOU.
What a touching story. I started hunting at 10 years old, I learned to shoot using an old 20 bore Fox Double. Actually my brother and my father who had learned to shoot in the Marines so you can imagine the gun safety lessons I recieved from the both of them, they taught me to shoot and be safe. I don't recall being told that if I was not safe I would pay dearly for it but I knew it was not a toy, I was walking the woods with the both of them from the time I was 5 or 6 years old and I knew that a weapon of any kind was not a toy if i wanted to see any of them I was to ask first. Then when I was able to get my hunting licence at 10 my father went with me and I was the only one in hunter safety course who through my own efforts among people of ages into their 50's that scored a 100 on the written test. Gun safety was the first and most important thing to keep in mind. I remember getting my first head of game over the bird dog ( an English Setter) we had just gotten. She was an awsome dog who was able to handle a covey of quail, pheasants or ruffed grouse and woodcock. She was a constant companion for me in those days into my early 20's until she wasn't able to hunt any longer because of arthritis she developed.
My dad just gave me my grandpas shotgun I teared up. My dad found it in his house it was in pieces he took it and redone. My grandma shot it a long time ago my grandpa said it spun her around three times I miss her everyday.
This song gets me everyone. As I too got my grandpa's gun, 1894 30 Winchester. Made in 1918 and has put food on the table for a long time. Everyone I fire it I think of grandpa and how he fed a family of 8 with it for years. Dads shot deer with it and so have I. Thanks for the song Aaron Lewis!!
songs like this are what make me appreciate country music
Today is my Granddad's birthday. He passed away on the 6th of February this year. I miss him so much. It's really hard to accept he's gone. I guess I just thought he'd live forever. If I wasn't able to see him on his birthday I would always call him to wish him a happy birthday, and tell him I love him. I feel like there is an emptiness in my heart right now. I just want to pick up the phone and call him like I always did. This song means a lot to me because in the week leading up to my Granddad's passing he gave my son a gun that was given to him by his Father many years ago. I named my son after my Granddad's father. I knew how much my Granddad's parents meant to him, and so I named my son after his Dad because I knew it would mean a lot to him. I just wanted to make him proud. I've never had my own father in my life, so my Granddad was the closest thing to a Dad I've ever had. He was such a good man. I miss him so much. But I know he's up there waiting for me. I'll see him again one day. I love you, Granddad! I hope I'm making you proud. Save a spot for me on your porch swing in heaven
something tells me that you've already made your granddad proud.

Reminds me of papas guitar. Yeah I'm a bit older now but now I have a black guitar and my dad has my old one aka grandma and grandpa. I know he is up there playin his music for God and jesus rest in peace
I'm going to start the tradition by passing down my first gun. I have a Winchester Model 1912 made in 1919, it's 95 years old and still functions flawlessly. I plan on taking my first turkey with it and so will my kids and grandkids

My grandpa was a big rabbit hunter, and died recently at the ripe old age of 84. He used to take me hunting with him as a kid for rabbits where I would use his 28 gauge Remington 1100, and he would use his double barrel 12 gauge. I got both of those guns from him, along with a pistol, and I cherish those guns and the memory’s they have given me with that great old man. He was a mentor and like a second father to me. Man this song gets me every time. Right when he says "I keep a picture in my case of that sweet old man and me; grandaddy's gun." Most grown men have a picture of their grandfather in a box somewhere, so it just hits hard.
Brings back memories of my granddaddy and his old single shot 12 Guage, he even bought me my first gun, a 20 guage pump. I miss that man
🙏
Same here it's a single shot 410 and I lost my papa on oct 8 it still seems unreal I find myself crying quietly often as of lately like I am now as I lay here in bed next to my child and his mother sleeping writing this I wasn't able to say goodbye due to the visitor policy at the hospital damn COVID I miss that man too!!!
Same
I’m sorry for your loss 🙂😢
I got my papas ,16 gauge single shot, the stock was cracked, he wittled out a cherry stock that's on it now. Miss him and the squirrel hunting trips.
Arguably the best country song of its decade.
idk, hank jr has a few songs that can compete.
+SPoNGyy Does The Most what did hank jr write within a decade of this?
cbbb;c b;;'.'*';,cb;
Burt Stamos why are you thinking like that ? Hank jr is a legend but i guess you're not a fan.
+SPoNGyy Does The Most he is, that's just not a great song

I'm 31 now an man the over the years with trapping animals I have made enough money memories to last a life. Thank you Mr. John .Henry McCrary. Just one of THE BEST of all your tunes!!! In fact, I care for this one so much, cause as a Gramma, it reminds me of myself!!! Made sure to teach my Grandchildren what’s important, since I’ve lived in the mountains all my life. Even have this as my ringtone! Keep it up Sir, your awesome!!!!
Ever since quarantine struck and even before I used to cry when I left and this song means so much because my grandpa actually gave me one of his guns so now when I hear this song it makes me tear up because of how much I miss him and my nan
This song always brings a tear to my eye, I may not have my Grandpa's but the memory of him pulling over a truck with 2 creepy guys in it that were following me and grandpa putting his gun to the drivers head is priceless..R.I.P. Grandpa..
🤣
Just lost my grandfather last week.. and I have a double 12ga seers shotgun that does have a cracked stock.. this song is exactly how feel.. what I wouldn't give to hear his voice one more time..

Donald Piornack same. I'm hunting with my grandpa and my older and younger cousin this fall if all goes well. My grandpa has never been hunting but he's a veteran. Sometimes we just go shoot squirrels in his back yard
I feel if you were held against your will at one you just might. Just a theory.
Damn, this made me miss my tough ass grandpa, he served in the Navy
My grandfather served in the navy as well and so will I.
Cancer took my grandpa before I got to meet him. And all I wish now is that it was him who could have taught me how to hunt. I will never give that gun away
I didn’t get to meet my grandad before he died..... he was a veteran who loved guns and this song makes me think of him...
I'll never understand why twelve people went out of their way to "dislike" something that's this amazing. Smh
6,300 anti-American liberals
Bc people don’t care
Cause people are America haters and hate AFL for everything he stands for . But not me lol I’m obsessed with him
Because people don’t know true talent
Some people can't relate and have a hatred for the "old ways" and GUNS. So blessed to have been raised the way I was
My grandfather just passed away today and my grandmother gave me his bolt action marlin 22 to remember him by. She bought him the gun for a wedding present
It was actually my grandmother’s gun. A 30-30, that kept the creepers away when my grandfather was working in the fields. She was a pistolera in Mexico. Apparently, in her hey-day., a lot of fellas didn’t care she was married to a good man so took care of my mom and her 3 brothers and sister when a “gentlemen” caller came creeping by. Gracias Abuelita! You’re part of the reason I keep my guns clean, locked, and loaded.
My Grandaddy gave me a gun and a truck before he died from cancer. It was a Revolver 357. Magnum and the truck was a Classic Ford F-100 classic Pick up
Im sorry for ur lost my grand dad gave me a 20ga youth charles daily and his 99 f150
My grandpa is still alive but he gave me a 1979 Ford f-100 pickup and a 357- revolver
Colton Boyet damn that’s clean
Case cutlery Kid I love that year of Ford very classy
My great grandpa had a model 63 winchester 22lr he had in the will to go to me after he passed it meant so much to me because I still had a little piece of him with me
I miss my granddad so much, whish he could've heard this song. He gave me my first 30alt6. I'll never forgot the man.
This sing never gets old and brings a tear to my eye. It speaks the life i live. Im 24 and i have over 30 guns. My poppy gave them all to me. He still around. He will be 76 soon. He fought in korea. I would have went to fight too. But he always told me not to. I took his word. And songs like this make me treasure the time i have with him. All these guns will go to my kids one day. I wouldent sell them for nothing. The memories with them are priceless. He tought me how to fish and how to hunt. I wouldent be the man i am today without him. God bless you poppy. For everything.
Thank your poppy for his serves god bless yal
I never knew my grandfather he passed away when I was 1 and my dad kept his shootgun .... now my father passed way not to long ago now I own it and it brings so much pain but it also brings the memories of my dad
Anyone else that can't help but to smile and sing along when they hear this song?
I can
I do, but I still cry too
just got a single barrel H&R from my grandpa, and this song reminds me of him and I so much, it makes me so thankful for a blessed family.
Brennan Cusick my first gun got this year a 30-06 my grandpas passed away so my dad got it
I feel this deeply even in 2021. Grandad gave me an ole 3030 lever gun. I know he talking about a shotgun but the feels are still the same.
I wish we could get this style of America back today.
This song brings chills to me. Because I'm not ready to face the fact my grandfather from my fathers side, and my great grandfather from my mothers side's, time on earth is about to come to an end.
My grandfather from my mothers side passed away before I was born from lung cancer...
