LYRICS:
I got turned around in some little town
I’d never been to before
Working my way through a middle of June
Midnight thunderstorm
There was something in the headlights
That stopped me on a dime
Well she was scared to death
So I said climb in and in she climbed
Oh Yeah
Well she was bruised and broke from head to toe
With a tear in her blood stained shirt
She didn’t tell the whole truth
But she didn’t have to I knew what had happened to her
I didn’t load her down with questions
That girl had been through enough
I just threw it in drive
Looked in those eyes
And asked her where he was
I don’t know if he’s angel
Cause angels don’t do what he did
He was hell bent to find the man behind
All the whiskey scars I hid
I never thought my day of justice
Would come from a judge under his seat
But I knew right then I’d never get hit again when he said to me
Wait in the truck
Just wait in the truck
Well I knocked and knocked and no one came
So I kicked in his double wide door
I let the hammer drop before he got to that twelve he was reaching for
I didn’t try to hide my pistol
I didn’t even try to run
I just sat on the porch smoking one of his cigarettes
And waited for the cops to come
I don’t know if he’s angel
Cause angels don’t do what he did
He was hell bent to find the man behind
All the whiskey scars I hid
I never thought my day of justice
Would come from a judge under his seat
But I knew right then I’d never get hit again when he said to me
Wait in the truck
Just wait in the truck
Whoa
Have mercy on me Lord
Have mercy on me
Have mercy on me Lord
It’s been sixty months
And she still comes to to see me from time to time
It was worth the price to see a brighter side of the girl I picked up that night
And I might be here forever
It ain’t paradise that’s true
But it’s a whole hell of a lot better
Than the place I sent him to
Wait in the truck
Just wait in the truck
Wait in the truck
Just wait in the truck
Have mercy on me lord
Have mercy on me
Have mercy on me
Have mercy on me
Wait in the truck
Just wait in the truck
Wait in the truck
Just wait in the truck

when my daughter gets married, I will make sure her partner listens to this music. It will be my subtle warning to him.
Or I’ll just be sitting here cleaning this ol gun

If your daughters dumb enough to not pick up on the signs. She's probably just as toxic as him
This legitimately might be the best country song written in the last 10+ years. Need more of this instead of trucks, beer, girls, etc. Way to go HARDY
It should get a Grammy.
Very well written and delivered
It’s good but Morgan Wallen is better
Totally agree!
Literally a truck song
This song and video had me sobbing. It took me 14 years to escape the maker of my whiskey scars. My brother begged me to wait in the truck..Thank God neither of us had to. Thank you Hardy and Lainey. Opened up those old whiskey scars, and made me even more thankful for the life that I have now.
Such a haunting song.
Both Hardy and Lainey create such vivid images with their voices
For every survivor of DV out there, thank you Hardy.
" I never thought my day of justice would come from a Judge under a seat" Awesome lyrics and very powerful - Pun intended!
Was the pun the misquote? ......from a Judge or a juror's seat.
@@OtisSpringerpilot no the pistol he has is called “The Judge” made by Taurus, and it was under the seat of his truck.
Taurus judge.. smart
I can't stop crying. I was that woman years ago. So beaten down and feeling helpless. I stuffed bags full of what I could carry, got my 2 daughters, and ran away. It was hell and he tried to get me back, but I put a no trespass out on him, and he left me alone. Not all women are that lucky. This video was powerful and beautifully sung.
He's singing about an unrepayable Act of Mercy. What's really heartbreaking is that it needs to get to that point in this country dealing with some men, so called. (& apparently some women too.) Bless you darlin'. I've been there.
Act of mercy in the moment. So beautiful!
Good on you for taking those steps. Hopefully it keeps the cycle broken for your children.
Good bless you Angel!
I hope and pray you're doing better now miss, God bless you
I kinda love that they don't fall in love at the end. He saved her and expects nothing and that's beautiful.

That’s Godly 💙
It's payment enough to get that guy out the gene pool
My sister and I said the exact same thing when this song came out! We were both married to abusive men, in our 20’s. It was almost the unspoken norm in small town, Okla. Fortunately, we had each other for support and recognizing not only our self worth, but the emotional damage it would cause our children, growing up in that environment. We were lucky, we got out, went to therapy, and learned what a healthy relationship is! Not everyone is that lucky. More importantly, not every battered woman is the stereotypical, uneducated girl living in a trailer, married to a whiskey fueled abuser. My hell was a 3,800 sq. ft. home that looked like heaven from the outside.
This song hits hard. I’ve been that woman walking down the road, hurt and confused. I’d definitely call her rescuer an angel. (Angels in the Bible were warriors, why not a modern day warrior angel with a truck.) ❤️ Love this song so much. Thank you for bringing attention to domestic violence with your powerful song.
@@hardy7310 this song brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.....thank you for this it's good to know there are still good men out there❤
Same 😢 me and my now husband cried we were both abused before we found eachother
But when we were in it we didn't see an out until we both stood up for eachother and now we here happily married 15 years later thank you God is all I can say ❤❤
And Thank you to the two who sang this story oh so well ❤ one for the history books
As soon as I hear her sing I lose it… beautiful song
You're right, the protag of the song is an angel to me, an avenging angel (and such a subset is in the Bible).
Hands down one of the BEST SONGS I have listened to in YEARS!!!
Amen to all the people who can get out of an abusive relationship. God bless.
God bless and protect the ones who stand up for justice when justice hides.

THE TRUE HEROES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....MUCH LUV B.MAC.7858...
This song touched my SOUL. Coming from a woman who was nearly taken from this world by the hands of a man who said " he loved me" this brought me to tears and I NEVER cry. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this song. It's so comforting knowing that there are still men in this world who stand up for those of us who have had our voices ripped away from us. I lost 11 years to torment but gained the ability to see abuse from a mile away. Keep writing these because the world needs to hear it!! 👏👏👏
Hello Lynn 👋 hope you had a great weekend??
I’m so sorry you had to go through that a man should never lay a hand on a woman praying for you
I couldn't have said this better myself. I lost almost 7 years but I did get away from him and it has made me see people (men and women too) who are abusers and who have been or are being abused. If anyone sees this that is going through this, you can get out. There are people to help that will keep you safe - please research well and find out your options for your area. Prayers and be safe all!!
What u have written here honey is 100% true.. This song hit me in a way nothing else has. Sorry this happened to u and many OF us. I'll never let a man do that to me again. As I'm sure u won't either. 💓
I'm so in agreement with you I cried the same way the very first time I heard this song. And felt such a relief to know that someone actually had enough heart and soul to put into words that we as women need a voice of reason to speak up for us especially when when we're not able to. At least I made it through it 14 stab wounds and I'm still here today. A stronger and better person with an eye for danger.
I heard this for first time on CMA awards. As a DV survivor it was very triggering for me in a good way. I left 23 years ago when I was 34. He died last year. This song made me realize I don’t have to be afraid anymore. I have lived with a slow burn of fear since I left. Thank You Hardy (and Lainey) for helping me breathe again.
I must confess this dude sings very good songs that touches the soul of man
I actually feel for DV survivor...it's not an easy way to live...it can actually make you commit suicide when you have put in all your effort to make it work... I'm sorry if i may ask l, what really failed in yours?
God bless you sister.
You're safe now, baby. You're safe.
"a slow burn of fear since I left," I think every DV survivor can relate; you can physically leave and mentally heal, but that fear is in the back of the mind.
Anyone that does this in defense of another person beaten and broken should not go to jail!!!!!
I agree I've NVR met a man tht did wat Hardy did.
Oh but the judges don't care about that
This song choked me up every single time I hear it. I have flashbacks from my childhood. I'm a father of two young ladies and I'll never allow my girls to suffer a man like that. I won't stand by and watch it happen to a stranger either. Incredible song.
Lainey's 'thank you' at the end of the third verse hits so damn hard. It's like she's not only thanking him for rescuing her; she's thanking him for restoring her faith in both herself and in people. Even as she loads up in his truck, you can see her struggling with her own self-doubts. But as she raises her eyes and sees the Cross, she puts it in drive and rolls on. That's the most tragic thing about those in the throes of domestic abuse. Regardless of how it ends, the victims are left with no other choice but to pray, lean on Calvary for strength and move on as best they can. Thank you, Hardy. Be blessed friend.
Lord, I'm waiting on my angel!!!!!
Fiififjfjfhfhjhhghj
Faith in people would have been FULLY restored if Mr Hardy had been delivered a not guilty verdict by the jury in that trial he had before prison. He didn't do anything wrong. We need more jury folks willing to make a stand for what's right.
I think she's thanking him for the truck she seems to have gotten ❗️
❤
This means so much as a survivor of domestic violence. Thank you Hardy ♥️
Always remember, real men get mad, not violent... also your always stronger than you think. Don't put up with shit just bc he's a dude, they drop just like everyone else.
@@stewiegriffin88Always remember, women are just as abusive, without violence. Stand strong, no matter what gender. Just because you hit him and he hits you back does not make you a victim.
If The Victim of DV was Male, You wouldn't Mention Anything.
Hardy, when this came out I was homeless, on drugs, and in jail. Now I have a good job, a husband, and I’m healthy. This song and “Clover Cage - Miraculous” are the two songs that helped with my depression. I just want everyone to know that things will get better. We are in this together. I love you ❤🎉
This song means a lot Lainey. I've been beat all my life, until 27 years ago when I met a man sent from God rescued me and showed me what Love was, and I never was beat again
I am a father with 4 daughters and an ARMY vet, so trust me, this song resonates. If someone puts a hand on one of them I would gladly sit in the cell. Thank you for some real emotion.
Thank you for your service
Thank you for your service, God Bless you.
Two sides to every story. My sister was very abusive to her kids dad. Bragged about it to our family, but with other people, she made herself to be a victim. I disagree with what he did because he wasn't man enough to go talk to find out what happened. If that was my son and some punk ass stranger who didn't know my son killed him. He wouldn't have made out of jail, because I would have put a hit on his head.
@@ginohunter3198 No doubt there are folks who lie. I was talking about if this was my daughters. If someone put hands on them, they would be on the buisiness end of me. No "hit" put on them. Just me. The way I was trained. Then I get to see the lights go out right before I go. World of difference though. I know how to clean up.
Im sorry, I hear what you are saying BUT sometimes our kids make bad mistakes and should deal with the consequences. They can stay or leave. IF it comes down to it, hypothetically no body, no crime.......................
Hardy, I want you to know that as a 60 year old woman, what you expressed in this song resonates with a lot of women and men. From the perspective of a woman, you hit the nail on the head with the 2 lyrical lines, "I just asked her where he was" and "wait in the truck". Those 2 phrases are so powerful when a woman has been beaten and hunted down by someone. From a man's perspective, there are men out there that have NO patients for someone who beats a woman and want to do what you portrayed in this song. It is lyrical GOLD and touches both men and women deeply.
And I am one of those men who has no patience for a man who touches a woman or a child. I'm 63, old school
I grew up with four older sisters and it was in stilled in me by my father to never raise a hand to a woman. I have a daughter that knows her older brothers and I will always say wait in the truck.
Exactly why they keep writing these songs over and over again.
I agree totally
17yrs old, that is how my parents are raising me. I fell in love with this song as soon as I heard it.
Every time I watch this I cry...such an incredible song. Being a 20+ year DV survivor, this hits home, hard.
As a DM survivor this song is so amazing I can't even really put in to words how much this song means to me I just wished I had someone to protect me and my babies . No man or woman should ever put their hands on someone and definitely never a child .
There are many that would..... the system doesn't protect them.. in fact, maybe even get charged themselves... so the incentive is to not get involved. At the same time, it seems false accusations tend to make the local DA happy to press charges. It seems most of the systems have become those that reward good behavior with legal troubles and bad behavior with a "slap on the wrist" as the worst case scenario. Justice is broken.
Ending a man that is abusing his wife and children outside the law should not be the answer, but at last, this is where we are as a society.
As a survivor it gives me the chills when I hear, I always prayed for an angel that never came
I'm so sorry. May God of heaven and earth heal you.
Where’s he at ?
Sometimes you have to be your own angel 😇
Me too😢
Yes I know I'm a survivor as well when I heard this song. I cried
Im a 32 year old ex con who has been through one hell of a life sir, and your song had me crying. Thank you for your art, don't ever stop Hardy. When your in Grand Rapids in febuary I'll be at your show.
Really man this song and video is trash. This video and song is terrible. It makes no sense whatsoever 🤣🤣🤣😁🤣😂 how u going to kill a guy u never met over a strange woman you never met and then at the end of the video that Conn woman get to drive off in his truck. Also why was that guy trying to run to the back of his trailer when his shotgun was right beside his TV. 😅😁🤣😂🤣😂

Young man, you'll have no idea how much your song meant to this woman..... Thank you ❤️
So... U want ur Boo dead??? how dare u...
Jk... learn to be stronger and better.
There are so many more single men out there than women... Why... Because alot of women fall trap to Genes + Alpha Male... AKA liking the Tough Bad boy.... AKA the Alpha Lion... Well... hopefully people grow out of that and realize that security and showing some vulnerable qualities isn't too bad...
But that mostly doesnt happen... Its about the genes/Alphamale...
Sigh... I gave up at 25 lmao... I got a cat... Im good with her... Everytime I was outgoing and loving Id get women, but as soon as I started realling loving the woman... I apparently scared them away by being to vulnerable.
What a crazy world...
heh... Basically there are 100 guys out there like this man... for all the scum bags that women choose... I have to say... I have some sort of resentment against these women who keep playing victim with these men...
i love that the man did what needed to be done. in that instance. but that being said , i have watched many an ole boy get his face and body pummeled by a woman who balled up her fists like a man and beat dude half to death cause ya just don’t hit a woman. well i call bs on that in those circumstances. i have had a woman drunk and wanting to beat up on me before , and when she made fists out of those hands and came in swinging i knocked that ass out like i would any other man. weren’t no beating given or received just a flat stop to the fight. be mad but no one gets to beat me for ffee

We love this song. I am a Black female. I have never been in a DV situation but I now far too many women who have. I was never so proud of my husband as I was that Christmas morning when he beat our neighbor's arse. The guy first beat his wife bloody. When their son (on his 18th Christmas birthday no less) tried to intervene, he started chasing the boy with a tire iron. I shouted for my AF vet husband, but did not expect the beatdown he gave the guy, who was white. Thankfully our neighbors stood in solidarity with my husband. We lived in a very diverse neighborhood. All the races came together and said no to DV. The police took the abuser away. She and her son moved back to her home state.
What a great song! It touches anyone that has had abusive relationships. More power to you, thank you for one of the best songs ever. Love
Continually blown away by the depth and range of HARDY's songwriting abilities.
It always blows me away that his sister was the one who really wanted the music dream. He was clearly born for this 😂

Best Country Song in years.
Let me put this into perspective for all you..hip hop and dance music my whole life…after listening to this song 500 times I’m now a country music fan for life..
Holy crap! I'm not usually a country music listener but damn you gave me goosebumps. Reminds me of the country music from my youth.
finally a song that isn’t just about drinking, fishing, hunting, etc. Incredible story telling and an amazing music video. Hardy is on his way to being the best big thing
And if you want more in the same vein there is always Kenny Rogers.
Martina McBride also has some.. ah.. "stories" in her songs. I don't know new country, but I know the kind that Hardy sings, grew up with it.
I'm a domestic violence survivor and this affected me. It describes my life. My ex choked me out and caused permanent damage to my esophagus and I can't eat . I was on feeding tubes for 5 Years. I now had a surgery that connected my esophagus to my small intestine so I can eat some things. I'm lucky to be here. I'm writing my story. I'm a survivor through Christ. Bless this man and his message. God bless you all.
God bless you and Amen
So very sorry for the horror you went through. I also have been abused.
I’m so sorry. You are so worthy, I wish you knew. That man is sick. I can’t believe this happened to you 😢
i did it.... god bless you and how you have came out of what we are lucky to come out of....I am i domestic violence and mental abusurer survivor..
I am so very sorry you went through such a horrific ordeal. I'm sorry to all the women who deal with this cowardly act either presently or in the past. It angers and saddens me as a man that this happens so much in our society. We as men need to do better! Protect, encourage, and built up women, not abuse and take advantage. I hope you have found peace now, and for all those still going through it, I hope peace will soon find you.
I'm not the biggest country music fan I'm more of a metal head and rockabilly kind of guy but I will say as an abused child who was too young to tell my loving mother who never saw justice ⚖️ from a judge under a seat against our scard whiskey maker to wait in the truck this song made me weep like a broken child and I'm almost 30 years old so thank you Mr. Hardy.
I relate to this song so much. MANY TIMES I prayed for help. Many times I wished someone would save me. It's not always simple to get out of these situations. I used to believe no one would love me, that I couldn't do any better. I still struggle with myself. But I could never let another man beat me. This is absolutely my favorite song! I cry Everytime I hear it. But I love it!
Hardy just won Songwriter of the Year at the American Country Music Awards... based on contributions prior to this release…and he deserved it. Based on this song, he should get it next year as well. ❤
I love the fact that it's been 60 months. And she's still driving the truck that picked her up and saved her. Knife, change and cigarette lighter still left in the same place. Trucks, next to a dog, the second best friend ever!
I absolutely cried when I seen her still waiting in the truck...... so powerful!!!!
That's exactly what I noticed in that truck as well.

Well, crying listening to this. One of the deepest songs I've heard in a long time. I was never a victim of domestic violence, but I was raped and my husband found me. He has a scar on his hand from trying to get to him. He would have killed him if I hadn't stopped him. There are very few men who would do whatever it takes to protect someone who has been through hell. My husband and I have a stronger relationship from what happened. There is always something good that can come from something heartbreaking.
May God bless your husband 💖

This song is so desperately needed. In recent years hatred towards women, especially women leaving abusive guys has skyrocketed. Hardy, I am grateful for you having the courage and being a REAL MAN to release these lyrics! I hope that you know how many women this helps! Country music needs to encourage REAL MEN like this!

Justice never comes for domestic abuse victims
I prayed for a hero too. You are not alone
Yeah justice does come for some especially when it’s done around me because I don’t even ask a fucking question. Just break shit on his face like he’s done to her. You break a man’s soul and he has no fight left. Sorry for the foul language.

As a DV survivor who took our two kids and ran after 13 years of living that I have to say this song, video was kick in the chest. I've never heard this before but I'm an immediate fan. My nightmare died this Feb after hiding for 22 years from him. Our children are grown now and living beautiful lives. We all can make mistakes in who we give our hearts to but there comes a time when you have to accept it and change it at All Cost.
It's sending the wrong message. So it's ok to take another person life and it's ok for the strange woman to drive off with that man's truck at the end of the video. And people say Rap music is violent wrong!!!! This video and song is so stupid makes no sense whatsoever
Very well said, there comes a time when it's a wrap, price be damned! I know I'm male and it doesn't seem to fit but it is what it is, I got my kids out of toxicity and broke the damn wheel doing it! None of my kids will go through this cause they know you can move on!

Wow!!!! Absolutely love this. Perfection...all of it❤❤❤❤
As I sit here and watch and listen to this, my chest is getting tighter and tears begin to flow down my cheeks. This one hits HARD. Thank you HARDY for not being afraid to step out of the box once again with this masterpiece.
Many years ago. You know who you are! 😢
They all know who they are we may be broken. But we survived we survived didn't think I would
Gives me chills. This was my life for 4 years. Leaving was the best decision I made. Thank you, Hardy. 🖤 You sing about all the hard things in life most people don’t want to talk about.
Stay strong Erika. Wait in the truck...
14 years of hell on earth as of yesterday for me 11.21.22. Today I'm packing... heat & my belongings. Thanks Hardy, Lainey for giving me the wherewithal to get the hell outta dodge
🖤💙😊
4 years for me too. Happy you got out.
@@christinetaylor6246 even if you have nowhere to go leave and don't look back God will lead you even if you have to go to work at McDonald's and live in some crappy apartment that would be paradise don't think about it just do it
im glad things are better, prayers for you always.
This song brings me to TEARS....ladies it happens to men TOO...if I had a gun ..sister in law toast...I'd just be getting outta prison this year 😊 worth it !!
Thank you hardy... survivor of DV! Always wishing someone did this for me! No way should someone helping go to jail! Thank you for this song 🎉❤
"I never though my day of justice would come from a Judge under the seat" is peak songwriting, if you understand the reference. Genius lyric.
My favorite line as well: Lainey sings the heck out of it. Been trying to figure out that reference though!
@@thebenjichord1599 The Judge is a line of revolvers made by Taurus Firearms. In the video, he carries a revolver, presumably that one.
@@billatras wow , love that. Don’t get that kind of detail in music these days👏
When I heard that part I was literally yelling! Such a golden lyric
Believe... taking a REST....while being that person, and understanding the situation not proud of it we all have a choices..
From a DV survivor, thank you for the words that are so powerful for many of us. More importantly, thank you for using your platform to bring awareness to this problem. God bless you both.
Hello Chandra 👋 how are you doing today, Happy Thanksgiving..
Well said💜🙏
When he waited for the cops to come he's a real one 💯
I hope this song makes it inside to all the heros.
I am a survivor of a horribly physically abusive relationship. When I got wheeled into the ER after days of being beaten with 2 broken bones, basically no hair and a busted up face, the doctor said I looked like a war veteran. It was a war. This song to me is amazing. All of us in DV at one point or another prayed or wished for a savior. This song got me. So strong. So powerful. So. It's real life, folks. So amazing.
I'm with you girl! :) Glad you are a survivor!
A random guy coming to shoot your abusive bf is not real life.
Same...cold chills it hit so close
ditto - this guy should never have gotten time
I’m so sorry you went through that.
When I first heard this song I sat there with tears streaming down my face, as a DV Survivor I realized I am her. It took years to get out but I did and never looked back, the system can fail us, the hotlines can fail us. My angel came in the form of an Apartment manager, the night before it escalated, I fled to a friends with my 4 year old son. I walked in and asked for an apt. She took one look at me and asked my story. I told her, and she gave me the keys right then and there, everything else just feel into place. Thank you for this song.
I would fight for you.
I’m glad you got out of that situation. You are strong and you persevered and I’m extremely proud of you for it.
Me too girl. Just now.
Me too. Survivor never victim 💜
So did I! I cried and hoped for the future women would have him
A “judge “ is an actual pistol. I wonder if they meant to do that. Great writing. I love how so many people don’t blink an eye at killing evil
My man wld most certainly say "Wait In The TrUcK ❤ Would Yours?
I've said it for a stranger,, best 10 years of my life,, would do it again when needed,,,
It's hard when your terrified of the person you love. Really does something to your mind and heart
until one day you get tired of all the Beatings the put downs and walk away... i did finally 3 yrs ago
You’re not alone ❤
I'm NOT trying to be cold here Jenn, I guess I just cannot understand!!... it seems so obvious that in that situation, you have to know they don't actually love you!!!.... if the person makes you terrified, that's NOT love!!!!.... ... As Paul says.... "love is patient, love is kind...."
It never gets easier. It's been 6 years and I still live in this hell
@@hardy7310 Stop pretending to be Hardy!!!!... Get a life!
What a song, a good storytelling. I am a black guy who loves country music with series of story tellings. The first time i heard this song on 100.7FM in Oxnard, California i had to pull on the side of the road and cried like a baby. This song need to be played on CMA award please!!!!!
I'm a while guy that loves country
This song is a masterpiece indeed!
Brilliant let Hardy know. I like it.
Man we would love to here this. Maybe one day you'll visit a honky-tonk in the South. Simply soothing..Memphis is the bomb for the blues
That it hit you in your emotions is what separates good music from great music. Love your story.
"I never thought my day of justice would come from a 'Judge' under his seat..." whoo good Lord on a surfboard
I don't know why I love this song so much. but its my favorite song now.I hate and always will hate bullies. Anyone that preys on the weak or beats women.I hate it.
Jesus man....where do I start....the lyrics, the camera angles, the lighting, the looks on her face, the choir.....her eyes in the truck mirror, with the reflection of HIS stuff still on the dash after 5 years, separated by the cross.....truly a 5 minute masterpiece.....thank you.....
Literally…a perfect written song! My dad was a morning drive jock and program director of a chain of stations.
He decided what got airplay. He’d listen to a song for maybe 15 seconds and either took it off or continued to listen!
I’d cry over the ‘tossed pile’ and say ‘Daddy you didn’t even give a chance’” And he would say “Baby, Daddy knows what he’s listening for”.
Took me years, but I honed my ear, and I get it! And TRUST….THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN STRAIGHT SMOOTH IN ROTATION ON EVERY STATION!
It’s a perfectly made song. Entirely!
I absolutely love this song. My oldest daughter would play it over and over. I had to ask her to stop, because she was going to make me not want to hear it anymore. I’m so happy she got the message. Hardy had a terrific partner in Laing. I also love Lainey’s heart like a truck. Both will go far. I also love Hardy’s redneckin
My thoughts exactly!
The way he hit the cigarette..just like everyone I know and how they smoke.
Real talk.. I am very appreciated of your sharing of the details that are not shared with the "back ground" people who Make the whole video happen besides the music and words... Thanks for showing your thoughtfulness if other people..
This song gives me chills!
I want part 2, the prequel where his mom tells him as a kid to “stay in the truck” while she runs into their house to grab what she can while his dad is out of the house. Unfortunately dad shows up and puts a stop to mom leaving. 😢Next scene is the police officer saying “stay in the truck” while two bodies are being rolled out of the house on stretchers.
He couldn’t save his momma, so he vowed if he could ever save anyone else from that fate, he would do it at any cost.
Damn read ur comment n I had the chills
This needs to be the top comment
Genius.
Yes 10000% yes
Omg your as dramatic as my gf wishes her life was... not hating its actually pretty creative you could direct that video....
As a once abused woman, THIS is an anthem
I'm glad somebody was there for her. some people don't believe what you went through sometimes you're alone thank you for your kindness thank you for your compassion thank you for your song shadow😢😢😢
Oh my this song has hit me hard. I cannot remember the number of times my mom gathered me up along with my sister in the middle of the night to escape my drunk dad.
Some 50 plus years later I still have those whiskey scars.
Fkd up!! So sorry baby girl. We ain't all like that.
I was thinking something similar with my mom and stepped dad. I hated sleeping in the car but new it was safer
I will always remember what my drunk ass father put my rock strong mother through this song 😢😢😢😢 thankfully she was a survivor before dv was a thing it was just what married people did. She made me the night she showed him she wasn’t taking it anymore it took a gunshots but she saved her and our lives and that’s why we need the 2nd Oh by the way he lived no marks but it scared the shit out of him
You have no idea how much your song means to me. I'm out of that situation now, but everyone always turned a blind eye to it. No one cared
Whenever people turn the other cheek, they're helping the abuser, never the abused. More folks need to understand that.
From Australia, hope ya doin ok now Daisy, had to sort out one of those hero's myself 25 plus years ago, no gun required for that soft cock. I have lost her to cancer now but Ricky Van Shelton's songs help me get through.
Been there I PRAY FOR ANYONE IN THIS HORRIBLE LIFE!! I’m elderly now let me beg of anyone who is being abused please dear god run I mean run get out it don’t change !! I RUIN MOST OF MY LIFE BECAUSE I STAYED I DIDNT HAVE ANY SELF WORTH NO CONFIDENCE!! If your young and got stuck with a abuser please take any strength that you have and get out!! PLEASE DONT RUIN A DAY OF YOUR LIFE FOR A CREEP THAT HAS NO RESPECT FOR YOU!! God knows I WISH I WOULD HAVE WAITED IN A TRUCK!!!
Someone does ...I bet
I believe many do care, but they DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO!
This has got to be the best song ever and being a through domestic violence I do so wish there was angels like this out there. ❤❤
Honor and respect... " whiskey scars"..... we need to return to this justice.....
This made me sob uncontrollably, one of the best songs I’ve ever heard. Sending love and prayers to all the survivors and to those who didn’t make it, may you Rest In Peace ❤️🙌🏻
Amen joe 👍
A classmate of mine was killed by her estranged husband. This song is a memorial to those struggling with DV and the lives lost.
Amen
Me too. Me too... incredibly moving.
Who died,?
For every woman who never got her justice we Thank you both for this song!! ❤️
Hello Pamela 👋 how are you ?

Amen 🙏🏼
Hello 👋 how are you doing
Is my pleasure having you as a friend? If you don’t mind me asking where are you from?
I could have never thought of these words. This made me understand my dad, and husband and how we have to appreciate these good men
There are so few left. Thank you, Josh. Always never forget I might not know what it's like but I hope to say thank you for all you do ❤
Dang‼️😱 This has to be THE most powerful song n video I’ve ever witnessed‼️ I’ve loved that life that gal was living n I’m here to tell everyone who’s going through it, you CAN get out! There’s sooo much help out there n resources. You’ve just got to look n help yourself. That first step is THE hardest! It does get better though.
I would wait in that truck and fight for that man for the rest of my life. Hardy and Lainey❤ Brilliant writing and voices. 🛻
Every time I listen to this song I cry like a baby! It's beautiful and it reminds me of the life I lived before, a life of domestic relationships and getting my ass beat by men, praying for someone like him to come save me! It gets better! You just have to get out!!!
I just prayed God will give you undisturbed sleep and order your path.

Job 33:14-16 / Psalm 127:1-2
Yes!!! same here....
Yes there can be life after this! Starting over myself. Praise God that there is self love to now know I am worth more!
As a daughter that watched her mom be abused by her dad and who was hit herself, this gave me chills. The world needs more men like this. Bravo.
I grew up watching the same stuff you did and scared to death dad would go after my sister and me. It made me realize I don't want this kind of love and thankfully the first and last guy who tried to ht me was 27 years ago and I left him and moved on.
No it doesnt need more men throwing their life away for a woman they just met.
Men who kill people?
No it fucking doesn’t hahaha
amen
I relate to & LOVE this song! Thank you Hardy ! 💯💯💯💯💯
Such a POWERFUL song. You and Lainey KILLED it between the song and video. Love the line “I let the hammer drop before he got to the twelve he was reaching for”
One of the most powerful songs I've ever heard. Someone finally speaking out for us victims of DV.
AMEN ❤
It's giving the wrong message. It's telling the Young kids it's ok to kill strangers and it's ok to give ur truck and freedom away. That's a terrible video and song I'm sorry but that song is trash!!
@@rob2927 I read your message I think you should stop listening to it he's standing up for women that get beat by scumbags
@@chuckebersole5472 pay no attention to Rob. He’s not understanding who will actually absorb the song’s message.
@@rob2927 you don't know anything but then you're pryan abuser so you don't get it
Growing up watching the women abused in my family. This song strikes a cord within my soul. And I sing my heart out to the song every time I hear It. Well done, Hardy. This is a song that many survivors will be able to relate to
Amen...GOD BLESS EVERYONE ¡¡¡☆☆☆
Wow God Bless 2:11
I love this song and I'm christian and god bless you 🙏 hardy
Jesus, have mercy on me. Because in this circumstance, he would have had to go. I’ve got your back!!
