Ok! This gives me confidence. I am an African American girl married to a very Bahamian man and am going to surprise him with this and his sister's chicken souse recipe! Thank you!

I made this recipe a week ago here in Wisconsin and my 3 kids all couldn’t stop eating it. They told me to make more. This is the best Johnny cake recipe I have tried. Thanks for sharing ❤️

I made this Johnny cake for my family on this rainy morning and it was a hit . I chose this recipe because I love the cake version better than the bread version . My first time making Johnny cake and this is the version for my family and I .
Granted I did have to bake at 350 degrees instead of 300 and used just a pinch of nutmeg because I don’t like it .
    Thanks again lady ❤❤

I tried this recipe because I liked the look of the finished bread and had never done a batter-based Johnny cake. The results were okay but my family prefers the kneaded dough version. The amount of baking powder was overwhelming for me. My bread also fell in the middle. At 40 minutes, it was still wet inside. I had to raise the temp to 350F. My oven kinda sucks, so that may be why 300F was not enough. I will try the recipe w/ less baking powder and a higher temp to see if my results resemble Berrnadette’s. Thanks for sharing.

Authentic Bahamian Johnny cake does not have nutmeg, eggs nor vanilla!
    Just yuck!

Randi, that's like saying there's only one way to make a recipe. While you might not like nutmeg, eggs, or vanilla in your Johnny cake others do. Every Bahamian does not look or cook exactly alike, but that doesn't mean they're not authentic Bahamians. My recipes are the way we cook in my house. Authentic Bahamian Girl. Bernadette Bostwick! Hey Randi hun , there’s Johnny cake and there’s Johnny bread . This is Johnny cake . Let’s try to be respectful in our opinions as all are delicious . Authentic is sometimes relative . Let’s stay United as Bahamians .
