Probably lifted from someone's reel to reel tape machine. Instead of singing the line "if I cry, it's not because I'm sad...Lennon sings" if I die, it's not because I'm dead...".His famous black sense of humour I assume!
From the early years. So many outstanding songs, often unnoticed because of the huge hits on those albums. Ask Me Why is a truly original composition. Good choice for a cover.
I remember as a very young lad digging through my Dad's album collection and finding Please Please Me, and this track was from that, i used to love playing that album, sadly Dad is no longer with us. But i have his love for music especially The Fab Four.... music is my life, I DJ'd for 10 years in the 80's and loved every minute of it. I was named after a Beatle too. Thanks for all the tracks you do covers of Amy, you're making an old guy (well old-ish) very happy :) x

As a side note, I couldn’t help but notice you sang the bridge in a much higher register than John does in the actual song, which is understandable since he hits some very low notes there. I only point this out because when I sing the song, I have the exact opposite problem on the end of the verses (I, I, I, I, should never never ever be bluuuuuuue...”) I either have to sing it lower than the original or really strain to hit the high notes hehe. Just goes to show what an incredible voice John had to be able to nail the whole thing.

Amy, you're not doing 'covers'; you're doing archaeological reconstructions of these songs, note by note. I was astounded to hear you sing backwards on 'Rain.' At the age of 67, I'm delighted to hear a girl so devoted to the Beatles. And you do all of this with a --what should I say?-- deadpan sexiness. I love it.
I love your beautiful vocals on this one, so touching. (And it always makes me smile when you seem to go wrong and curse at around 1.55 ! ) Great work Amy.

I've watched a number of her covers, and here's what might seem like a funny observation. As good as this is, there's more to it: She plays and sings with such delicate finesse that it hides how precise and skilled her playing really is. If you watch the delicate chords, especially things like the 4-string D (one of Lennon's favorites), the 9ths, major sevenths, and also the inversions she uses up the neck, she is really playing these as dead-faithful to the way the Beatles played them. And she isn't struggling with longer reaches. Really nice. Beautifully done.
