great video! so if we want to use EmulationStation for most of our retro games, and only add a few higher-end games to the Game Mode through Rom Manager, would you suggest to only put the roms you want in Roms Manager first - and then add the rest manually to the Emulation/rom folders after? that way, EmulationStation will still show ALLLLLL games, without having to go into desktop mode and remove several games from the system collections?

Hi and thank you! :) For PS2 games you use the PCSX2 emulator, I'm not sure you meant you congigured the controls in Steams controller setup or in the actual emulator? Beacause if you go to desktop mode and launch PCSX2 from there and change the controller layout, it should be applied to every game. Let me know if you figure it out!

Thanks for this guide, it was helpful. Question: do I actually run the games through steam library? I'm trying to open them but the loading screen comes up and I just return to the game detail screen.... none of the games actually run.

Hi sorry I may have missed something, English isn't my mother tongue, but where do you get your games from? In the video you showed you had them in the USB drive but where did you get them from? Is there a site I can download roms from?

Has anyone figured out how to use citra game shortcuts on steam rom manager? Mine creates them just fine but it does not launch the game when I click on the shortcut. It does nothing.

Super helpful! I like retro arch and all but I think emudeck looks way more streamlined from your tutorial. Don't own a steam deck yet so I can't verify, but since it launches the games from steam OS, is there rich presence enabled?

Nice tutorial. My deck arrived a mess, so it went back. Desktop never worked properly and when it did, there were no repositories, none of the apps worked (all threw a can not download due to missing repositories) and no way to get back to steam except a hard reboot. There was an issue with the haptic feedback on one of the pads too. Overall, it felt like a cheap and flimsy devise that was rushed to market. QC seems rather limited too, as did support. I opened a ticket, hoping to resolve things, but after no response for 4 days, I just returned the deck. To date, I never did hear back from them. Alas, I probably just got unlucky, overall opinion seems quite positive. It's always good to hear of the less positive experiences though. I doubt I will try this version of the deck again, perhaps I will try a v2 if it is released in the future.

Hey bro how do you set up your library of games to have that clean set up in the beginning of the video ? I know there’s an Emudeck tutorial , but what is the CSS loader file name to have that library collection setup? Or do you know how to set it up after downloading ? I tried setting it up like that and it doesn’t give me an option to create a “collection” to make each categorized list

First of all, great video! One thing I'm confused about... that thumb drive you attached with the dongle... is that thumb drive formatted with ext4 or NTFS? I have 20 gigs of roms on my windows PC and know nothing about linux and everything I read online says the Deck won't recognize Windows format storage.
It seems like I can't find a headache free way to transfer my roms. If it's really just as easy as you made it look I'll buy that dongle in a heartbeat.

Thanks! My thumb drive is formated as exFAT and I have no problem transferrring files between my computer and my Steam Deck.

Hi there. Thanks for the video. I'm stuck early on in the process, as on my device, the downloaded msi won't just open as in the video: it asks me what I want to open it with (Choose application). This matches the fact that it doesn't show the steam deck icon but a more generic icon. Any input on how to fix that?

Hi, thanks for commenting! I’m using a 1TB card from Kioxia as I think it’s good bang for the buck. You could also get a Sandisk card, should you want that. Both of them are available from Amazon.
