There's no way any new artists have stories this interesting without the trap, criminal cases, and bs drama they elude to. Let alone be able to narrate them. Biv is one of our last true stars from the golden era. 💯
Mike a real one man. Great interview. Mike giving incite to history and to the industry. Always an NE fan, but more of a fan of Biv after this interview!
Love how he's keeping it straight about his Brother Bob, reiterating Bobby earned his way and how he was just a teenager like we all were back then doing wild/crazy stuff 👊🏾.
Now we need Ralph, Bobby, Ricky, Ronnie, Johnny. Dope interview, but Biv always been the spokesman. Shout to the crew for chilling on that “pause” sh!t.
They have known each other since they were kids. They are family. Family have fights but at the end of the day it's all love. NE learned as they went along. The key is to make sure everyone has their own space to grow. Everyone met back at the Mothership every few years but they all do their own thing, have their own projects. I've been down since 1983. They would fight but we were ALWAYS getting a message to them one way or another that "y'all gonna have to work that $hit out because WE AIN'T GOING NOWHERE!" Even Ralph said if it wasn't for the fans they would have broken up long ago.
Myself born in 1983 these guys were my first images of success being black& young and mind you my oldest uncle is in the legendary group The O'Jays but New Edition was the most relatable that I could see on tv and hear on the radio. From about 83 to 89 I constantly saw Cool It Now Mr. Telephone Man and Candy Girl... Always n rotation
Great interview -- watched NE come up because I'm from Boston, and Ronnie attended high school with me. So proud of all you have achieved and your contributions to the industry. You've never forgotten where you came from, and you clearly have lots of love for each other.
Amazing interview with Biv. I grew up right along with them from Candy Girl in 7th grade until now. I am so proud of him and all of NE for their accomplishments. They have stood the test of time.
Real life, Nostalgia I grow up to N.E and all of micheal Bivins work love this guy one of the real music Pioneers I played poison on the box like a million times when it first came out it was like something you never seen or heard before great memories right there in thanks micheal Bivins for gracing us with your Presents hip hop & RNB Royalty
1:57:32 "We here to drop jewels, right?" Ayo son, it's official! This is the # 1 M.E.O. episode of all time. 🏆 Too many jewels dropped. Excellency. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
New Edition definitely was the epitome of classic r&b with timeless gems definitely was a 🔥🔥🔥 time to be around and r&b was actually alive now it's completely dead but salute to Michael Bivins the whole New Edition and Matt Hoffa and the whole podcast 💯
This interview takes me back. I spent so many years as a performer. I met Biv and Rico many years back. Never got a chance to work with you but I did do a show at NSU with Tonya Biv. Great show Math. One
He's right, us ne4lifers go hard in the paint for our guys. That's because they have always shown us so much love and always shout us out. I can't wait for the documentary! #OGCandyGirl
Both my parents would spend HOURS Breaking down modern day groups and or brands YMCMB Migos QC ect. ect. They would obviously give them they flowers but would always bring it back saying but there will NEVER be another NEW EDITION RUN
Two hours went by fast. Wish the interview was longer. Definitely need Ricky and Ronnie up there. And then a New Edition interview. lol So many stories individually and collectively from the groups.
Great interview!! Grew up on NE. The amount of “pause”moments is hilarious. Everybody laughing in the background but ain’t wanna disrespect the OG. We older man, we don’t play that game. Our slang different.
Great Interview Michael Bivins Is Roxbury Boston Legend He Seems Down To Earth And Humble Man New Edition Is One Of My Favorite RNB Pop Groups Of All Time Michael Bivins Also A Good A&R Businessman
Thank you for this interview. I remember the feeling BBD gave me as a kid and how I always loved Mike for creating the East Coast family with ABC. They were a moment. The first click of R&B artist. Mike Bivins is a music legend.
I’ve seen Mike say in other interviews that he just wasn’t into the album process as he was on the Poison album. He was on his “Executive Mike” thing, while Ricky and Ron was in album mode. All 3 of them said that they were not being their authentic selves either, “Hootie Mack” was their term for weed, but they weren’t bold enough to openly talk about how they were living at the time. That’s why it sounds different. They were growing up still, but didn’t embrace it fully. I believe Mike says this on his interview with the Breakfast Club
This interview was epically dope!!! Mike Bivins is solid dude. I felt like I was there. That was real barbershop shit. This easily looking like one of the best pods out! Shout 2 #MEO
Life long fan of N.E. but man B.B.D. are them dudes. Me and my two homies I thought we were them. Our crew name was T.M.D. aka Too Much Dopeness( Terry,Mike ,Dave). I used to have the 360 waves cause of my man Biv.
Great interview and educational Michael Bivens is a historic fgure in the worlld of Pop Music. He's unapolegetically Black. I got nothing but respect for him and his Brothers. I was up there in 1990.1991 when they dropped Poison. They really got that going well. The story of Bell, Biv, Devoe is a music industry dream story. That's a movie.

Great job with this Mike Biv interview. I loved hearing about NE's connection to hip-hop's infancy stage.

Definitely a dope interview. I wanted them to ask him why BBD went in such a different direction for the second album.
That second album was a big let down compared to the first.
