Sam had a great year. More protection and if he got second year I think he could go higher. O line needs to be addressed

  • @unicornhearts
    @unicornhearts 6 дней назад +6

Sam was pressured 33 of 41 pass attempts (80.5%) against the Lions and 27 of 40 pass attempts (67.5%) against the Rams. He was sacked nine times by the Rams, and the Oline accounted for six of them. Jalen Hurts was sacked seven times. Jalen Hurts threw fewer passes than Sam completed and only threw for 128 yards and no touchdowns. Because Saquon Barkley ran for 206 yards on his own. Aaron Jones, Cam Akers, and Sam combined for only 106 yards rushing. That’s why Sam had to throw it 40+ times. Also, Kevin O’Connell used to be the Rams offensive coordinator before he was hired as Minnesota’s head coach. So Sean McVay knew exactly what the Vikings were doing.

My favorite memory of Sam Darnold this season was 14 wins, the second best in Vikings history, his 35 touchdowns, over 4000 yards, 13 games with a 100+ passer rating, more wins than any other quarterback in their first season with a team, the locker room celebration after the Packers game, the game-winning touchdown against the Seahawks, the perfect overtime against the Bears, the comeback win against the Cardinals, starting 12 for 12 against the Giants, the 97 yard touchdown pass against San Francisco, the standing ovation and chanting his name in the Texans game, beating the Jets even though he already did that his very first game with the Panthers, the five touchdown 157.9 passer rating against the Falcons, when he got choked up when he said he was so grateful to be a Viking, the Winter Warrior game, his first pro bowl selection, and his first playoffs.

It's definitely not that. I think everybody pretty much knows Minnesota isn't winning 14 games next season with or without Sam. If they resign Sam he'll have to try with a weaker roster than JJ would get. Sam played great this year but the truth is he absolutely choked in the 2 biggest games. Nobody wants to run it back with Sam with a weaker roster and if they do make it to some huge games in January watch him choke again. Stop going for good enough and take a chance on being great.

Guys, personally, I think Sam is being overhated. As soon as he played in Week 18, everyone started calling him a fraud, despite the fact he went 14-3. His only losses were to the lions and rams, with two OFFENSIVE minded coaches. Sure, he could have gotten the ball off quicker, but that's the exact reason people are criticizing the o-line so much. How do you expect them to hold up for 7,8 or even 9 seconds? They're not made to do that. You can't put all the blame on the o-line for sam's mistakes. If anything, they could go Green Bay, and put J.J in for a few games, maybe 5 or 6. If he does poorly, like going 2-4 or 1-5, you should put Darnold in. If he does well, like going 4-2, 5-1 or even 6-0, keep him in. But I kind of agree with the o-line issues. While it isn't their fault that Sam's holding on to the ball, Kwesi probably should get Trey Smith. They could get Drew Dalman, but you have to be careful with how you spend your money. You also need to allocate for whichever player they're drafting (My pick is CB) and if you need to adjust funds for Dalman, McCarthy, and Smith, and maybe Murphy too, it could be a problem.

Problem is Darnold will cost 40+/yr. They have bigger issues that need to be addressed and we found out that Sam doesn't throw the underneath pass. I also think McCarthy can give you at least most of what Darnold can do. Especially if you upgrade the Oline. Hell Mullens was throwing for 300+ yards a game and they were scoring mid 20s a game too. He just turns the ball over. Any starting level QB should be able to put up 3500yards and 25+ tds. With the weapons they have that should be an easy accomplishment. So why pay 40+/yr when you can get similar type numbers from McCarthy? Wouldn't you want a better overall team, then roll the dice thinking Darnold can repeat or carry the team?

The point is to find a franchise quarterback. It doesn’t matter how you find him. Imagine going 14-3 and all you hear all season is chirping about JJ McCarthy, who hasn't played one NFL snap and was the fifth (not first, second, third, or fourth) quarterback drafted. Like, no matter how well you play or how many games you win, it’ll never be good enough because everybody wants the untested, unproven rookie who hasn’t played a single NFL snap and instead, has been dragging his leg around all season! He hasn’t earned anything.

So it’s Super Bowl or bust? When no Vikings quarterback has ever won a Super Bowl? A few weeks ago, he was pricing himself out of Minnesota with every win. Now nobody wants to keep him because in your warped minds, he was the one who lost the last two games. One of which was for the number one seed in the conference, and one of them was a playoff game. But he’s not responsible for getting you there in the first place? You guys are going to be on collective suicide watch when JJ McCarthy is a bummer. I hope you judge JJ McCarthy just as harshly as you’re judging Sam when McCarthy‘s time comes. This brings a whole new definition to the word McCarthyism.

If JJ McCarthy is the starter next year, I hope the Lions, Packers, and Bears all beat the Vikings both times.

Sam is not a fraud. I have more confidence in him than Cousins. I would not bring him back, unless he does with a discount. We need holes filled. We can not do that, when one guy get the lion share.

"9". It's in our best interest to let JJ McCarthy be the starter next year. Use that cap space to get the rest of the roaster right

Lots of luck with J.J. McCarthy or Daniel Jones. If Minnesota decide to play them next season. Did you see how Jared Goff played against Washington commanders! and they had the number one defense and great offensive 2024 season. But didn’t play that well
where it needed to be. So it’s not the players fault those 2 head coaches both defensive and offensive should have taken the blame.
Hope Sam Darnold Lots of success wherever team he end up😊😊

I completely agree with your take on same darnold. If you want us to be a good football team for the next 4 years? Go ahead sign Sam Darnold. But will we be great and is he bringing us all the way? Absolutely not.

These people are acting like JJM blew an ACL, MCL, and his knee fell off. None of that happened. He tore a miniscus and played the rest of the game on it looking great. It felt "sore." They talked about a minor repair where he could have returned in a month, month and a half, but decided on the full repair because he wasn't supposed to start in 2024 anyway. I have a strong suspicion doing that was to keep the rabid throng from demanding he start when he wasn't ready if Darnold crapped the bed.
NOw ask Pelessario when in history that particular scenario has ever happened. It hasn't, so that last caveat of his is irrelevant. Signing Darnold for a multiple year contract to cover for a minor delay would be ridiculous.

Can't have a young injury prone player hand him the position soon. Last year was a rebuild we all know , remember the O Line did not protect Sam at all the last 2 games , which put extreme pressure on Sam.
Bring Sam back , if can work out a short term contract with incentives
Just don't think JJ M will get us more wins Next Season

Darnold is not the whole issue here. You have to have a better O line and be able to run the football.

“Where was this the last two games?” You saw it all season long. Sam just won 14 games, the second most in Vikings history. JJ McCarthy did nothing but drag his leg around all season. He didn’t play in those last two games. He didn’t even take a regular season snap. And can we stop pretending McCarthy WASN’T the fifth quarterback drafted? And as for sitting and LEARNING, that’s what quarterbacks used to do. Aaron Rodgers sat behind Brett Favre for three years.

Sam was drafted third overall, so who gives a goddamn if JJ McCarthy was drafted 10th? That doesn’t mean anything!
Josh Rosen was drafted 10th overall in Sam’s draft class. The Cardinals traded him a year later to draft Kyler Murray who is making way too much money to be mid. And there’s always Deshaun Watson, who’s out for the entire next season because he tore his Achilles in the last game of this season when he didn’t even have to play. Before Dak Prescott’s next level lunacy of a contract, DeShaun Watson was the highest paid quarterback in the league and Kyler Murray was only $500,000 cheaper.

On dallas Turner, i disagree no brainer Greenard Van ginkle pro bowl seasons as well as Patrick jones had quite a season adding on being a rookie there was alot more than Dallas just being a rookie that had an impact

I still think sam darnold is a good quarterback and if koc had installed the quick pass game we would have at least beaten the rams.. and possibly the lions but our interior offensive line was getting caved in on every single snap.. Sam had never been there before and he is athletic enough to beat pressure however no quick pass game and interior offensive line pressure resulted in us getting crushed.. Stafford and mcvay have a quick pass game and it steamrolled our defense I think we should tag sam and if one of those teams wants him that bad we get more picks I wouldn't just let him walk

Put the tag on Darnold, pay the 40 ish for one more year, just like if JJ was a rookie. When Darnold has a bad game put JJ in and see how it goes. If they don’t shore up the front line, JJ is going to suck at best. It might take a year to find a good front line. Question, what if, what if, Darnold balls out. Nobody is saying he might be great. It’s possible, maybe not, but I believe we would be protecting JJ by using this method.
