    I really love your videos they help me understand pronunciation so quickly and easily, you're a really good teacher. I teach English in Japan, and have been learning Japanese for around 16 years, so I know how hard learning different pronunciations is and how hard it can be to deconstruct one's own language into terms that the other person can understand to help them learn it. On an unrelated note, because I learn Japanese, when I listen to you say a word, and then use a Chinese pronunciation checker on myself, I can often tell right away if I've said the word correctly because I can recognize the characters from my Japanese studies. Though I'm noticing that remembering them in Chinese is actually much easier, correct me if I'm wrong, because they seem to always have the same pronunciation, so I can learn just one way to say it and associate that with the meaning and how the character is written. But anyways, I really appreciate your videos and how much effort you put into not only teaching how to pronounce the words, but thinking about how to make it easier for English speakers to understand the sounds and differences, repeating the expressions many times, and having your camera set up close to your face so it's easier to see how you're pronouncing the words for mimicry. Thanks so much for your hard work. I'm not yet a serious learner of Chinese, but as a teacher, and a learner of Japanese, and lover of Language learning, your teaching technique is very good, and I'm sure is helping serious learners progress much more quickly than if you didn't make your videos.

    The way you're using examples from English to describe how each syllable sounds, and how to use tones, is so helpful. The rising tone sounding like "what?", the falling tone sounding like "No! or Stop!", the low or "bouncing tone" sounding like "Huh??" is a revelation. Makes me realize English speakers use tones too, just in a different way!! And we don't even realize it! Thank you for such an eye opening tutorial.

    • @YoyoChinese
      @YoyoChinese  5 лет назад +5

      There are definitely regional differences in pronunciation, and one of the risks of taking classes locally is that you're likely to be taught some 'local' ways of pronouncing and speaking Mandarin. That's OK - as long as you are able to communicate!
      In our courses, we teach you to speak with standard 'broadcaster' pronunciation, but use dialogues filmed with native speakers all over China (including Shenzhen), so you develop listening skills that can handle different accents.
      If you're looking to make extra progress beyond your classes in Shenzhen, or just more practice tools, I hope you'll check out our courses on YoyoChinese.com! 加油 (jiā yóu)!

    Being a Thai speaking Thai helps me a lot to learn Chinese as it becomes easy both in tones, vowels, and even in expression structure. Some consonant sounds need a little practice on my part which is also not difficult because I've created a way to bridge what I know to the characteristics of Chinese such as the sound of 'r'.

      +Robert Martin You can say hen hao when you are talking about yourself like.. you are doing great / you feel great. But when you want to tell someone else they are doing a good job (not a feeling) its fei chang hao. This is simply what I observed from watching videos so don't quote me on it.

    mandarin does not have voiced initials other than nasals. z and c are only differentiated by aspiration, not voicing. Therefore, z is not [dz] but [ts], c is not [ts] but [tsh]. English speakers often incorrectly use [dz] for z.
