this song was written by Judge Joseph Cornett of Letcher County Kentucky in the late 1800's or early 1900's. I first heard in when the Iron Mountain String Band Performed it on the Jane Fonda movie, THE DOLLMAKER. It is a very captivating song. I performed it at a funeral for a 4 year old boy back in 2000 whose funeral I had to preach. The family was very touched.
