Hi Melissa - this is one from the eighties. The women in my family, used to fit a stocking (one of those nude coloured knee high nylon sock things) over a broom head. The static produced by the synthetic material acts as a magnet to collect dust. I’ve tried this over the flat mop and microfibre cloth combo and it works beautifully. Try it to test the theory 😃
I moved into a new home with a beautiful, shiny new stainless steel sink. That lasted about one day with the hard water here in California. I tried all kinds of cleansers, like Bar Keepers Friend, Hope’s Perfect sink, baking soda and vinegar etc. nothing really shined it up “like new”. Then the other day I decided to put vinegar in a spray bottle (not mixed with water) and I spray that on my sink and wipe it down with a bit of Dawn dish soap, rinse it off and wipe it dry. Beautiful again! And, doing that after each meal, has just made the sink even better each time. I always hear about 1/3 vinegar and water...but never straight up vinegar. This works like a charm!!
lisacarpentersoares Yeah, I’m not sure why people dilute their vinegar. I use straight cleaning vinegar. It’s 6% acid, which makes it 20% stronger than the 5% white vinegar that everyone else then waters down! 😅🤷♂️

For those of us dealing with MAJOR fur balls getting caught in the vacuums (thank youuuu double coated doggo! haha) - using a seam ripper to take off the hair from the vacuum brushes will make it so the vacuum will be taken care of and will continue to work in good condition. Makes it so much easier than using just regular scissors I found.
Yes I discovered that by accident a couple years ago after breaking a pair of scissors! I keep a seam ripper in the junk drawer for this very reason! I have 3 cats and 3 long-haired daughters plus myself, and I have to clean it almost every time!
One of the vacuums I've had over the years actually came with a seam ripper for cleaning the roller brushes. Can't remember which one, but yes, it works awesome.

Soap didn't work and we thought we'd have to get all new dishes! Just started rubbing some with cream of tartar and water (and not even too hard) and it is coming off!! Thanks!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was worried it would only work on porcelain but it worked on my white Arcopal (tempered glass) dishes, only needed a tiny dusting of Cream of Tartar and a couple of drops of water. The cream of tartar was bought to make my kids home made Play Doh when they were very small, they're teenagers now (never made that Play Doh!). I guess the stuff never expires, this little bottle will last me a lifetime!

Also I'm using the granular form as a descaling agent in my washing machine (adding it to the detergent in the detergent drawer), no more white stains on black jeans ;)

Great tips Melissa! You could you use the cream of tartar paste to clean the toaster oven glass without scratching it. I got that tip from Katherine who does the Do It On a Dime'video.

You shared antip with the dryer sheets to clean base boards. As a professional house cleaner I love this tip. They smell great, are very effective in cleaning and keeping the dust, they also help the surface attract less dust in the future. I could also use them after that still to ward off mosquitoes, knats, and flies on my porch. They absolutely hate dryer sheets!!!
😱 I've been looking for a cheap way to clean our air-pots in our little restaurant! We carry lemon juice already so this is great! Thanks for the amazing tip!
I also used to work in a restaurant and we put 3-5 pennies and vinegar in the bottom of glass coffee pots and swish them around and it did an amazing job especially on the ones that had hot water in them all day. I know we no longer use pennies in Canada but if you still have a few kicking around they will last forever for this cleaning tip.
Donna Robinson That's how I've always cleaned glass coffee pots in my homes too. Learned it in the same place! Had to always be careful not to swish too hard though. I've actually broken a glass pot once. ;)
I use a lint roller to clean my lamp shades. The little square flat pot scrapers are wonderful for all kinds of cleaning, including stove top and floors.
Used the pumice stone in the toilet. Thanks Melissa! You saved us quite a bit of $$$. We were about to contract someone to replace our toilet bowl. The stone worked nicely and no scratches.

I learned long ago that pouring your used coffee grounds down the kitchen sink keeps the drains free. I haven't had to unclog them since then. The used coffee grounds are also an effective and organic way to add some grit to icy sidewalks.
I use a foam paint roller and a mixture of isopropyl alcohol, vinegar and essential oil to dust my ceiling and walls. Put the deoderizing spray in a little bottle, spray the paint roller and just roll away section by section. It's soft enough for my popcorn ceilings; I just have to make sure not to saturate the roller too much. I live in a very rural part of Colorado, so I use peppermint to keep spiders and moths away. Probably do this chore twice to three times a year, depending on my seasonal deep clean schedule. :)
Melissa, do you use citric acid for cleaning at all? I often use it diluted with water instead of fresh lemon or vinegar. Just put a handful in the toilet bowl and after a couple hours, it is sparkling clean.
wet aluminum foil and rub with it to remove rust; also take scissor and cut into foil a few times for sharpening (ok not really cleaning, but..); clean handheld can opener with dishsoap, rinse, then clamp opener onto paper toweling and turn "key" to run paper towel through...both drying and picking up residue from gear
Thank you for this! We are moving soon and I couldn't get anything to clean up some stubborn water stains on my gas stovetop. I'm excited to try the pumice stone! I never thought of that. My favorite cleaning hack is using rubbing alcohol, mixed with water, to shine up my stainless steel appliances. I learned this one from my oldest son.
I have a small spray bottle of hydrogen peroxide in each bathroom. I use it for dental care, spray on the mirror and wipe, spray on counter top to clean and disinfect.
Infant milk bottle nipple brushes (Specifically Dr. Browns brand). I use it to clean scum out of bottles with spouts that so fully detach for cleaning like contigo bottles, to get those corners on faucets, rim of the insta pot, and various little nooks and crannies where I would otherwise have to run a lot of water to flush things out without it fully doing the job.
Soot is not said like suit but like foot. I used the lemon/water microwave jack and the leftover lemon in the garbage disposal right before watching this video!!!! Love it!!! I also love the baking soda/vinegar mix to clean a sink that doesn’t have a disposal!!! One other great hack for cleaning coffee residue from inside a steel percolator is too add powder soap fill with boiling water (be careful not to burn yourself).... put the lid on and let it sit.... the inside will sparkle again. Thanks for introducing me to DIY cleaning products and microfiber towels!!! Watching your videos inspires me to clean (which I dread doing!!)
Hello I'm Cristina from Spain, and I have recently discovered a great use for boring nail polish remover which I love, and it is for getting rid of stains left from stickers on glass, floor, wood, etc, etc..it works wonders. Buy the way I love your videos, I learn loads. Thank u so much :)
DO NOT USE NAIL POLISH REMOVER ON PLASTIC! That has acetone in it-unless it is the acetone free version which is worthless-& is what is used to weld plastics together.
I make a solution of vinegar and citrus peel. Just add the peel to a container of vinegar and allow them to sit together for 7-10 days. Then strain the peel out and you have a super powerful multi purpose cleaner. I put it in a spray bottle It's great to remove "kid grime" ( fingerprints on windows and mirrors, nook it in the microwave to loosen baked on food, spray on the oven door and add a little baking soda... allow to sit for 10 minutes and then wipe. The uses around the house are endless. The citrus really seems to up the cleaning power of the vinegar! Its so easy to make, you can even freeze the peel in a zip lock to have on hand when your ready to make another jug. Its inexpensive, non toxic and works great! Just be cautious using it on porous surfaces like wood.
Keep the peels from any citrus like lemons, oranges & grapefruit until you have enough. Contrary to what Ms. Melissa said, these others ARE just as powerful!! When you're done straining the vinegar off, throw the wet peelings into food processor or ninja blender to puree. Add enough baking soda to to make a paste that you store in a plastic bowl with a cover on your counter or under sink....anywhere your cleaning products are handy. This paste works on EVERYTHING!! Stove, oven, grease spots on the driveway, dishes with baked on grease & food are just a FEW of the uses. If it should dry out before you've used it all, add some vinegar to moisten it again. Best of all, it's edible & won't hurt you, young kids (in their defense, it smells great!) or your pets!
I found your you tube channel a week ago and have really enjoyed watching. I knew some of these tips, but now have many more. Thank you for your insight. I have been binge watching and then saving on my pinterest page so I can find it later, and to share with family. I hope you don't mind.
I use to clean my above the stove rangehood filter (metal) in the top rack of my dishwasher. Having done that, I always thought it too long to run the cycle & a waste. I recently discovered that all you need to get the grease off your filters is baking soda, dishwashing liquid, very hot water, and a toothbrush. Soak the filters for 15-30 minutes in the solution, lightly scrub any remnant grease from the crevices with a toothbrush, and let air dry. It works like magic!
I have fibromyalgia so it makes bending over and cleaning a lot very hard for me, but one took I found that makes a huge difference? Toilet brushes. I use them for everything, it's like I have an extra long arm, I dont have to bend over my tub to clean it!! Obviously I use a different brush for the toilet and a different one for general bathroom cleaning!
For glass with mineral deposits, the white stuff, mix a baking soda and water paste apply, then scrub with crumpled aluminum foil. This is also great on glass oven doors! Also glass baking dishes.
This is my second video of yours that I am watching. You are wonderful at this and your tips are so helpful. Some I knew and others new to me. I am all about using things we have that are not harmful. Especially your liquid hand soap. I have eczema and do not want the antibacterial properties in my soap. You should have your own show. You are very good at what you are doing.
I have a knit pillowcase that I place over the bristles of my broom to do high and low dusting. It is big enough that I can just hold the bottom of it. Then when I am done, I wash it inside out. This also cleans my broom bristles.
Love your videos and your tips! I used to live in a home that had well water and sometimes the water would leave a rusty stain on the shower and tub that was so hard to remove. Once, out of pure desperation,I grabbed my bottle of Lysol Power toilet bowl cleaner and poured it on my shower walls and in my tub.I let it sit for about 10mins and PERFECTO! The results were amazing! I hardly had to scrub at all and the tub and shower came out absolutely beautiful and so sparkly....just make sure to wear gloves 😉
I don't know why people would give this video a thumbs down...this was a great video! I don't have any hacks...except that you should close your toilet lid every time you flush your toilet! All those germs (pee and poop) are getting all over your clean bathroom. please shut the lid!
Erica Burke I agree! Don’t know why people would give this a bad review. Informative, well presented, and just terrific!! Some people are just crabby!!
Erica, I sooo agree with you. I live in South Africa, and here it seems that people generally leave the lid open.....Why..?? I can never understand this weird habit🙉 I wonder if they also leave their cupboard doors open🤔
@@christienvanrensburg5512 I also live in South Africa and leave the lid open my husband always hell at me I dont think its a South African thing though
I use micro cloths to dry my hands, keep one beside the bathroom sink, they exfoliate so I rarely get hangnails anymore I also have one in the shower and use it after showering and have NO flakey skin. Bonus is no wet towel as most of the water has gone by this time. Also I squeegee the shower, after I have dried off with the micro so am almost dry Plus Last thing I do is with another micro I I finish off the shower. Altogether takes a few mins and my shower always looks good and never have to spend ages cleaning crud off it.
I love vinegar and baking soda for cleaning. I keep a spray bottle of vinegar in my kitchen at the sink. It is fantastic for c!eating the backsplash, counter and add a shake of baking soda for a non abrasive scrub. It works in the sink as well.
One of my favorite hack is when you get mark on carpet due to weight of ur furniture you just take a wet towel put it directly on that carpet mark and then dry that towel on the mark with an iron. You will be amazed to see that mark is gone.
Have you tried Earth Brite (100% natural clay)? I’ve found it to be extremely affective in cleaning very difficult areas like the glass stove top and shower doors. They sell it Bed Bath and Beyond. I just use the sponge it comes with...no need to buy other tools/items for hard to clean surfaces. Soot is pronounced as “sut” 🙂
The toilet bowl cleaner works great! Even on stains from hard water. The solution with the tea tree oil thanks! Bunches! Have recipe under bathroom sink . The one with tea tree oil, peroxide etc..
We recently started using a squeegee on our carpeted stairs before we vacuum them. Even with a powerful motor and special pet hair tool the vacuum never got all the hair up..until now.
I use coffee grounds instead of lemon in my garbage disposal (and other drains). I make coffee way more often than I use lemons and it would otherwise just go in the compost. I love it, makes my house smell like a cafe :D
Just a friendly FYI... A multi-story (12) condo complex I once lived in detailed in their move in contract that we should never put coffee grounds down/through our garbage disposal. Apparently the building had previously had some sort of plumbing "explosion" (their words) that was the result of a coffee ground / cooking fat clog that affected a whole stack of the apartment units. I don't know if it would be different for individual houses.
EpoxyMuffin I have to agree with plummy here. Coffee grounds are really bad for your plumbing.....on the other hand, your plants and compost bin loves them.
I use a little olive oil on a soft rag (not a microfiber cloth - oil would ruin it. I pay attention, Melissa!) to clean a food processor or plastic containers after carrots, tomato sauce or beets were it them. I found these veggies all discolored everything and this trick works wonders.
I have a glass shower and the easiest way to keep the glass clean is to use a microfiber towel to dry the glass every time I take a shower. My shower glass always looks clean. As needed, for deep cleaning, I use vinegar mixed with hot water, and dawn, rinse the mixture off and dry.
I discovered a flat "old" or you can buy it from the "dollar store" butter knife where you can use (when you don't do a "Spring"/"Winter" cleaning) behind the oven Meaning : You don't clean behind the oven every day, but the bits and pieces of crust from bread or food scraps that get in between the oven and the cupboards. (I hope you understood this!) I also saw this on "Do It On A Dime" lady I follow from the States. It Works! Thanks!
excellent suggestions to use the pumice stone, will totally give it a try; about the use of vinegar and lemons for cleaning, I discovered that Citric Acid, also known as Sour Salt, has the same result but doesn't have the "bad" smell like the vinegar and is cheaper that lemons; did you ever tried sour salt?
I love all the ideas! I am also looking for a product or tool to clean hard water deposits off of my granite counter top around my kitchen faucet? Any ideas? I don't want to damage the finish!
I keep a clean broom in my large shower. The soapy water seems to gravitate to the corners and make them gunky no matter how much I clean them. So I just use the clean “shower” broom and sweep the excess water from the corners after I have turned the water off to prevent gunky corners:
Pumice stone! I would have never guessed! When I had 4 boys at home and one bathroom in an old farmhouse... before renovating the bathroom, the tub / shower was always disgustingly dirty, and scrubbing was exhausting. I would buy a bottle brush with a wire handle, cut off the plastic end of the handle with a wire cutter or heavy pliers, secure the wire into a cordless drill, and scrub with that! 😂
I put a little fabric conditioner on a cloth and clean my TV and computer monitors with it, as it prevents static and stops the need to dust it every week (which I hate doing).
I use the closet I’m the center hallway of the house as my cleaning Arsenal headquarters, includes sorted baskets like first aid, dental, cleaning potion mixtures, lightbulbs, and rugs that I keep stashed that I’ll use when guests come over.
Use the covers from plastic bowls to put plungers on. The deep lip ones from nordic brand cottage cheese collect more water (you know, sometimes 1 plunge isn't enough) but any lid with a lip should work just fine.
I use small plastic bucket or bowls ( could use ones you would throw away from food container) to keep my plunger in. If you don't need designer style.

I use tub & tile cleaner on all my mirrors. Takes everything off the mirror, dries streak free every single time. Love it.
You are the best! Always good information delivered in an uplifting way, (&we're talking cleaning here😜). I can't get enough of your videos!😍
I learned long ago that pouring your used coffee grounds down the kitchen sink keeps the drains free. I haven't had to unclog them since then. The used coffee grounds are also an effective and organic way to add some grit to icy sidewalks.
I go to the local coffee house and get used coffee grains to fertilize my garden.
I have never heard of this! That's good to know! Esp about sidewalks- here in northern MN, we have icy sidewalks half the year!
Genius!!
Paint rollers are made to put things on not take them off. You are just spreading crap all over
Well Linda, Viagra was originally a blood pressure medication, but I don't hear any dicks complaining about that! 🤷♀️
Melissa, do you use citric acid for cleaning at all? I often use it diluted with water instead of fresh lemon or vinegar. Just put a handful in the toilet bowl and after a couple hours, it is sparkling clean.
J W that would be cheaper than a fresh lemon too!
wet aluminum foil and rub with it to remove rust; also take scissor and cut into foil a few times for sharpening (ok not really cleaning, but..); clean handheld can opener with dishsoap, rinse, then clamp opener onto paper toweling and turn "key" to run paper towel through...both drying and picking up residue from gear
Christine K I do all of these lol
Treat yourself to a Kuhn Rikon Safety can opener and you'll never have to clean it - well, maybe a rinse now & then. Best 5-in-1 tool in my kitchen.
Great video. Thank you for taking time to make the videos you do.
The pumice in the oven and lemon in the shower tips are super helpful!!! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Malina!
I LOVE the microfiber cloths! I use the waffle weave cloth the most for a variety of things. Can’t live without the !
leave ketchup overnight on the bottom of copper- bottom pans and they will sparkle when you rinse them off in the morning.
Love your channel!! So satisfying and your hair is beautiful.❤
I have a squeegee that I only use in my shower, you have just change my life!!!
Hey! Love your videos they always inspire me and help me clean! Thanks for being great!
..and thank you for watching!
Ikr it makes me clean to
Infant milk bottle nipple brushes (Specifically Dr.
Love, love, love my Makers Microfiber Cloths!
Thanks everyone. I'm taking notes from the wonderful suggestions in the posts as well as watching Melissa.
I used a black paint designed for a high heat surface and painted the inside of my fireplace. Same type of paint used to make outdoor grills look new.
Great tip - thanks for sharing Lyn!
We did this too! Our fireplace looks amazing :)
Watching your videos inspires me to clean (which I dread doing!!)
glad to know I use all these things for cleaning! thanks for sharing x
Thanks for sharing and for watching Cristina!
I do this too!
How much vinegar and peelings do u use?
Me too!
I'll give that a try Emily, I have a very short arms and arthritis
Even I use a toilet brush with 2 size bristles (of course a different one) to scrub my bathroom floor..
I used to be a custodian and did this on the restrooms I was cleaning. They always looked great and I got a ton of compliments.
For glass with mineral deposits, the white stuff, mix a baking soda and water paste apply, then scrub with crumpled aluminum foil. This is also great on glass oven doors! Also glass baking dishes.
pumice stone will scratch porcelain . use paper towels soaked in lemon or vinegar lifts stains right off.♥
sue thorson I used Coca Cola for cleaning the toilet rings off at a friends house one time and it really worked.
Pumice Stone wan't scratch your porcelain, but it's scratching everything else. It's used in professinal cleaning!
This video was so helpful. Also wondering when the next Reno video will be out, super excited to see the house its gonna look amazing.
I really like this! It reminded me about using a pumice stone. I definitely love using lemon, vinegar, and baking soda around my home.
Yay!!!! New hack! Thank you so much! Lumis hack is phenomenal will be trying it! Xoxo
I only read this recently not knowing for sure if it’s true !! Thanks for confirming!
Erica Burke I agree! Don’t know why people would give this a bad review. Informative, well presented, and just terrific!! Some people are just crabby!!
Its the opposition..true
Erica, I sooo agree with you. I live in South Africa, and here it seems that people generally leave the lid open.....Why..?? I can never understand this weird habit🙉 I wonder if they also leave their cupboard doors open🤔
@@christienvanrensburg5512 I also live in South Africa and leave the lid open my husband always hell at me I dont think its a South African thing though
We clean glass shower doors with cheap basic shaving cream. It works great and it's fun 🙂
Great for mirrors too
Tooth brushes ... I love them for all over the place .. just discovered the channel learning a lot
I use micro cloths to dry my hands, keep one beside the bathroom sink, they exfoliate so I rarely get hangnails anymore
I also have one in the shower and use it after showering and have NO flakey skin. Bonus is no wet towel as most of the water has gone by this time.
Also I squeegee the shower, after I have dried off with the micro so am almost dry
Plus Last thing I do is with another micro I I finish off the shower.
Altogether takes a few mins and my shower always looks good and never have to spend ages cleaning crud off it.
A wonderful video to watch! I learnt a few new tips :) , Lemons in the UK are reasonably priced so I do use them for several thing!
I use A squeegee to clean the shower as well I didn't know about using that in the kitchen and I bake a lot that's a great idea!
Use dryer sheets to clean window screens. Removes dirt and gunk in between hosing them down.
Good old rubber glove to defur upholstry, bed sheets/duvet covers. Yes my cats sleep with me.
Love this tip!
That’s where they belong. Mine sleep with us as well! I have turned my husband into a cat lover. He gets a kick out of the girls who prefer him 😻😹
I love vinegar and baking soda for cleaning. I keep a spray bottle of vinegar in my kitchen at the sink. It is fantastic for c!eating the backsplash, counter and add a shake of baking soda for a non abrasive scrub. It works in the sink as well.
Using dryer sheets to get nasty dust on the baseboards. Works great!
This is one of my favorite hacks I learned a few years ago. The fabric softener in the sheet also keeps dust from coming back so fast!
Really? Do they have to be used or new dryer sheets? Because I would love to be able to reuse the used dryer sheets.
I'm def going to try this!
Any kind of fabric softener collects dust just saying
Love the pumice stone idea! Added to my list...
The squeegee, pet hair hack works wonderfully. I now have a squeegee in my kitchen and bathroom and they get used daily.
Vinegar with dish wash liquid mix with water & clean my kitchen counterparts..tats amazing
Your hair is fabulous x
I use a crumb scraper to wipe up messes on my counter instead of a squeegee! It works great!
Love your channel. What solution do you recommend for stove top? Grease, foods, etc.
One of my favorite hack is when you get mark on carpet due to weight of ur furniture you just take a wet towel put it directly on that carpet mark and then dry that towel on the mark with an iron. You will be amazed to see that mark is gone.
Great tips. Thank you.
You changed my life with microfiber cloths.
Thanks for your Amazing tips Melissa
I'll have to try that. Thought they were stained forever.
Such an interesting video & loved all the uses.
Greetings from South Africa
Dish soap and vinegar are my go to .
put the "used" lemon in the fridge to absorb odors.
that's a great idea! thanks!
I have to try that one
I stick the "used" lemons in the corner of the vegetable bin. My lettuce and cucumbers last longer (don't have them touch the lemons)
When can we get a whole house tour?! 😁💙 From Tennessee
I believe they have in an older video (it was empty) because I made it in the sims 4!
I love the white magic eraser.
Thanks Melissa for the tips.😍
Great video! How do you feel about cleaning with reconstituted lemon juice?
I put a little fabric conditioner on a cloth and clean my TV and computer monitors with it, as it prevents static and stops the need to dust it every week (which I hate doing).
A dryer sheet would work too for the same reason.
