  • In this video we are in the Florida Keys, off the coast of Marathon offshore fishing for mahi mahi. We set our a spread of trolling lures with ballyhoo as bait and also run from weedline to weedline chumming up mahi with squid and threadfin herring. We faceoff these two techniques to see which one works best. The very next trip we use the winning method with one extra secret ingredient and technique that I unveil in the next video and the bite was absolutely crazy, we caught over 20 fish, subscribe to stay tuned for that episode!! ‪@unchartedflorida‬

We just had the same results of Key Largo last weekend. We trolled 400,600,800,1200 feet with no luck. If we stopped on a weed line or once on a floating bucket we were able to draw Mahi up from deeper water with cut bait. Noticed the water was warmer than normal 85-86 degree's which may be a reason we did not see alot of bait fish and therefore zero birds over 4 days.

It’s great to know that the method worked for you guys as well!! Gotta love it when you find a floating bucket or pallet or anything holding life out there! We’re down in Marathon, but wanting to try some fishing in Key Largo, where is the best ramp to use there? We fished another trip shortly after and did the same thing but added some different chumming techniques and ended up almost getting our limit! I am still working on the video where I cover what worked that second day, hope to get it posted soon! Thanks again for the comment!!!

Great video! Looks like an awesome time. My son and I did this a few years ago in the keys but we were unsuccessful! I love fresh Mahi Mahi. How do you typically prepare them?

Thanks Kim and Jason! And congratulations on your recent milestone on your channel!! That so exciting! I hope to be there one day soon!! 😀. We love to do mahi on the BBQ with a glaze of butter and some seasoning on a sandwich, I filmed a second video where we really got on the fish with some cool underwater video of the school and did a clean and cook at the end, hoping to get that out here soon!!

@@unchartedflorida Thank you so much! You will be there soon. Sounds like you just need more watch hours. Make the videos longer if possible. I look forward to seeing that second video!
