Turn OATS into MAHI | MADNESS Fishing Florida Keys {Catch,Clean,Cook}
Offshore fishing for mahi mahi (dolphin fish or dorado) in the Florida Keys is one of the most thrilling adventures that fishing has to offer. When you have located a school of mahi, keeping them next to the boat and catching them one by one is an artform and it can yield a boat full of fish, sometimes up to 30 or 40 fish. It sounds easy, but to be successful you need to use the right bait and switch it constantly and present it in exactly the right way, such as squid, sardines, threadfin herring, ballyhoo, etc. We set out today to experiment with a new technique to get the fish fired back up each time the bite turns off and the results were amazing!!! We cover how to catch, clean / fille...

    We just had the same results of Key Largo last weekend. We trolled 400,600,800,1200 feet with no luck. If we stopped on a weed line or once on a floating bucket we were able to draw Mahi up from deeper water with cut bait. Noticed the water was warmer than normal 85-86 degree's which may be a reason we did not see alot of bait fish and therefore zero birds over 4 days.

      It’s great to know that the method worked for you guys as well!! Gotta love it when you find a floating bucket or pallet or anything holding life out there! We’re down in Marathon, but wanting to try some fishing in Key Largo, where is the best ramp to use there? We fished another trip shortly after and did the same thing but added some different chumming techniques and ended up almost getting our limit! I am still working on the video where I cover what worked that second day, hope to get it posted soon! Thanks again for the comment!!!

    Whats really sad here is mostly looking at dead coral here. There is an abundance of purple fans and branch coral and some brain. The rock that its sitting on used to all be alive and if you look closely can see its all dead rock with algae growing on top of it. I have been free diving these reefs in the keys for few years now and never realized what I was looking at until more recently. Most all of our coral reefs will be gone in our life time its a very sad truth and unless everyone got in the ocean and seen the beauty do I believe people would care to make a change.

Mom, brother and I got to climb to the top. I remember the beautiful water colors of the Gulf Stream I guess. They had with a Jacob’s ladder or a hammock over the water but I was not allowed on it. My Dad and uncles dove and spear fished beneath the platform. My uncle brushed up against fire coral was was miserable the rest of our weekend. Always came with with sunburns and coolers of tails.
