Thanks for this review... and just as others have said, one of the best reviews I have seen. I have been searching for exactly this as I am contemplating in changing my GS for the RT. 👍
By far the best and most accurate review of the RT. I have this latest version, I’m only 5’6” with 29” inseam & 61kg and find it manageable with the factory lowered seat. BIG THANKS for a great video!👍😊
picked up my new R1250rt last Saturday. My first BMW and I love it. No sport bike but they are so good .you need to ride one to understand. so relaxed but you are travelling faster than you think. your Wright about the type of people who buy them are experienced. be riding 45 years.
Hello from Illinois. Yours is one of the best reviews of this bike I found on the internet (And most recent as of today). I currently have an F800GT and I know the RT will be heavier which concerns me. But from what you and others have said, even at low speeds the RT with it’s low down weight seems manageable. I hope to be riding my own Sport Blue one next Spring. Wishing you safe riding, and cheers, mate!
Hello from the UK 😁 Ah thats great to hear, thank you. Yeah it's quite odd and 100% best to try and see for yourself but the weight really does get hidden away low down and it makes controlling the bike and balance super easy. Madness considering how heavy the bike is. Ok cool, keep in touch and fingers crossed by spring 2022 you'll bee hitting the streets on your new RT! Safe riding mate! Cheers 🍻
Thank you David, really appreciate your feedback and congratulations mate, what an incredible bike you will soon have the pleasure of taking out. 👍 cheers 🍻
Just started looking at these, currently on a Crosstourer DCT which I love, but I'm starting to notice the top heavy feel of the CT, and on a recent trip to France the lack of wind/weather protection is now getting a bit much (an age thing😢) So I'm thinking tourer is the way to go, looks like you can still cruise the country lanes and have fun on the BMW too. Thanks for the clear review
Hello mate, totally get what you mean. Have you tried one of these yet? Personally I think you'd love it. Super comfortable, loaded with tech and great fun to ride as well. Worth a try. Cheers 🍻
Started looking into these a couple weeks ago. Now I’m crushed cause I absolutely have to upgrade to one of these asap. Gonna take some saving but there is just nothing that compares to these as far as I’ve found.
Just back from a 7 day tour of California. Overall handled pretty well. Bit cumbersome getting in and out of tight car parks. The seating could do with more cushioning for long rides. Balance really good. Hill start a god send in Yosemite ( should be fitted to all bikes) but clutch control needs to be good on up hill starts. Kept pace with my mate’s 1900 Harley. All in all a great long distance Road cruiser . Not really recommend for mostly round town. Also a lot of money compared toTriumphs/ Enfield with the same size engine. If you like BMs then money isn’t an issue. Doc
Great review - thanks. I was particularly interested in the throttle control and fuelling, e.g. when you're trying to hover behind a slower vehicle and need to gently decelerate. It doesn't seem to cut off too quickly when you ease back the like some other 'drive by wire throttles'. Was it as smooth and easy to control as it looks in the video?
Hi Steve, thank you mate, appreciated. I try to keep them as real life as possible. Yeah the RT is a very smooth machine. Incredible dash as well. Fuelling and throttle are very good. Always best to see how you find it of course but I can very much recommend them. The adaptive cruise control s superb and a game changer if you will take full advantage of it. Super easy to use. Any other questions just ask mate. Cheers 🍻
Thank you mate, appreciated. Its probably a bit old now (phone) but it's the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus. Running latest software. I actually wasn't aware of the connectivity issues but someone else mentioned it too. On this occasion it worked great though. Thanks for watching. Anything else just ask. Cheers 🍻
Thank you Fred. Hard to say really. For more sporty of the bigger bikes I would choose a triple black GS (non adventure) but for the full package of Luxury (minus the off-road) the RT is a clear winner. Cheers 🍻
Hello from South Africa 🇿🇦. thank you for the great review. I just sold mine. Did 5000km on in 3 months. Nice bike but I really tried to like the boxer motor, just couldn't get used to it. All my previous bikes were either inline 4 or 6. The quicksilver is rubbish, compared to others. Another problem is connectivity issues.....I couldn't believe BMW released this bike (and the R18 now) with all these issues. Tired of connecting and re-connecting, and reconnecting.....Either your map won't work or your media won't work, etc , etc. It's a nightmare.
Hello mate 😃 cool to have have watchers from South Africa. Yep the boxer is an acquired taste but still a peach. Its a little buzzy at times. Have to say this demo bike worked really well with no disconnections or issues but I will look into that. They might need a firmware update or something to fix. You may have seen that I recently changed from a 2020 BMW S1000XR to a 2021 Kawasaki Z H2 and man, the fun factor is off the scale. Thanks again. Cheers 🍻
As a 2020 version owner there is nothing on the 21 version that is better IMO indeed the phone connectivity for sat nav is a retrograde step as I understand it does not offer any of the options of a standalone. I suspect it will also mean you need to keep on top on the latest phone tech but accept this is the way many bikes are going. Still a great bike but the iconic 'owl' look is no more and thats a shame. Good review.
Hi David, I hear you my friend and I'm pleased you have such a cracking bike already. I agree with you that you will probably also have to have the latest phone/OS or at least pretty new for compatibility. Appreciate your support mate and I'm pleased to say I'll be back at BMW this weekend for a full review on the 2022 GS Rallye 😁. Cheers 🍻
Great re-view as I live in Portslade me and my wife were looking for a 1250rt because she was having trouble getting on to my African twin. We went to Chandler’s at Port Slade very very disappointed. They practically blanked us wouldn’t take my name or telephone number so in the end, we went to vines at Guildford and brought a 2022 rt sad to say Portslade missed out
Thanks Nigel. Oh sorry to hear that. I know the guys well over there. They wouldn't have intentionally blanked anyone. Who did you speak with out of interest? Thanks Cheers 🍻

@nigelcoppard196 I see, if it was registered as a demo that would be the case as BMW don't let them sell it before. I have an '06 R1200RT. I rented a '19 R1250RT for two weeks and put 2800 mi. on it. I ordered a '22 R1250RT (15wk delivery) and absolutely love it so far. Thank god my ZZR doesn't have a speed warning.....the bulb would need replacing frequently...
Lol. Very true
Good review, I like it. But on a bike like the RT why spend so much time on roads 2 metres wide and 25 mph?
Thanks. People tend to like these kind of roads and a mixture rather than sitting at 70mph on a dual carriageway.
