Does the scene scale unit plays role in the simulation?
What is the scale unit you are using? meters or cm?

It's funny when people say that Blender's smoke is 'good but not Houdini'. They're both FLIP fluid sims, and if you didn't see them side-by-side, they can both do relatively identical work. It's nuts, but it's true!

Blenders smoke sim is very buggy, it crashes often, it's very slow, it doesn't have near the quality of Houdini and it's just frustrating.. it's still the same mess in Blender 4+ with MantaFlow! It's the only thing I really hate (and avoid) about Blender..

Excellently crafted tutorial. Great simple explanations of each step and why you're doing it. MantaFlow is really good and smoke and fire. Obviously it's not quite up to Houdini, but it's pretty dang good. This is a really cool idea. I haven't tried doing openVDB imports much. I like how simple that was to get a secondary simulation in the same render.

when viewing my smoke sim the solid view its working totally fine but when I switch it to the render viewport it doesn't show what so ever, been trying to troubleshoot this for a few days now. do you have any idea what could cause that?

    • @PixelPlanetStudios

The most common reason is that a volume material needs to be applied to the domain.

Unusually, no objects were distributed in the tutorial, so I made one from scratch and did the same thing, but because of that, the smoke retention didn't work out as well as it did in the video, but I'm satisfied because I learned a lot. However, I think the video was not friendly to beginners. Sorry for the google translation.

Hey Eric. I was working on a car drift animation in a city< I'll send you the video if you wanna see it.. So because it's a city I need some space for the domain as the car drifts around a building but as soon as I scale it, the smoke stops working. Could you please assist me on this.. By the way, I do have quite a low-end computing power but it does hold it's own so I push my boundaries making do with what I got so I'd like some help working around this because I do believe it's capable.. My current project is an M4 in a low poly but quite convincing city, I'll also send you a slow drive video down one street.. Pretty impressive for the computer I have.. It used to be an Nvidia GT710 which is horrible and died but turns out my Core i7 7th Gen does a far better job than the GPU itself then working a 32GB memory.. The down side is it takes decades to render depending on my settings and what I'm working on. I think you now have a good idea of what's going on on my end.
