Your clear & simple explanations of many of the roles and procedures in the OR (OR prep, instrument prep & cleaning, and patient positioning) helped me prepare mentally for the day. Knowing that people in the OR were gonna be like you with the utmost professionalism and care, I was able to put my life in their hands. These should be required watching for pre-surgical patients. Thank you so much. Best of luck with your new adventure. That twinkle in your eye makes me think you'll rock it!
Andrea, I can't thank you enough for sharing this. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be reaching patients pre-op through these videos I've created. Helping ease your mind and heart before surgery wasn't something I could have ever anticipated just uploading some videos online. This world is truly amazing. Thank you.

Finding your channel on RUclips several years ago was such a great wealth of knowledge to me, an ICU RN transitioning to the OR where I would learn to scrub . Your videos taught me the basics and so much more. 5 years on I still look at some of them for a refresher. Best of luck with your new job at Incision. Thank you for your videos and good luck in this next adventure! I found your videos as I'm preparing for the first day of the professional portion to my CST program. I hope you continue to do videos, as you provide clear and easy to understand explanations. Your new chapter is still relevant to the CST community, and what an innovative way to remain involved with the CST field. I think it would be fantastic to hear about your journey, the progress of the app being developed to streamline and assist CSTs notes, and any collabs you have in the future.
Congrats....i found your channel when I was studying and I stopped and became an online tutor. But I still found value and enjoyed your content..... thanks for everything. Good luck in your next venture
What an awesome comment from your dad! I agree, you have no idea how many people you have helped in the field including me who left the field for 25 years and came back successfully! Even here, I have hope because heck, I’m getting old and being a CST is a super physically demanding position and I’ll have to leave it again eventually! Staying surgical adjacent while appealing to your “nerdy” tech side/computer programming knowledge is a win for many! Warmest wishes to you, best of luck and I’d love to see any videos you happen to make!
Watched this channel when I started working in the OR 4 years ago, it was much help to learn more about my job....Thank u. I too left the OR in Jan and started a new journey...Good luck
@@SurgicalTechTips same here , my wife hated it lol . Going to be bed late all the time , no social life , weekends shot , but it’s worth it at the end . That remote life is amazing . Going back to a traditional 9-5 is going be tough 😳
Welcome back! Started watching your channel when I was in scrub school, now a CST going to nursing school to become an RNFA. Your channel is really an asset to students and new scrubs. Yes to videos about Incision and any apps! Best of luck!
Thank you for posting, and congrats on the new career move. I am a Program Director at one College and an adjunct instructor at another for surgical technology. I use your videos all the time. (so much my students jokingly call you my boyfriend. lol) Our students do a year in the classroom/lab before going to clinical, and your videos show them what I can not put into words for them to visually see. My new instructor is also using your channel in her classes as well. They really have been a blessing to us as instructors and to our students. We hope you continue to post new content on what you are doing now. I worked in the OR for 15 years and the last five as a traveler until I got into education in 2016. I've been a Surgical tech for over 20 years, and I love to have great examples of where the OR experience can take students, your story is one to share. We wish you the best of luck and thank you for all you put into Surgical Tech Tips.
Yes more please! You’re an inspiration and got me into becoming an ST. It’s good to know there are other options after teching. I can’t imagine doing this more than a few years. Hard on the body and stressful.
Haha, I'm in CST school now at Concorde Career College. We use Incisions for our term. I've emailed them for the captions on the videos so I can write down notes. Plus, having sound and captions helps me way more. Congrats on making a move that makes you and your family happy. I'm 48 working full time at my 27 yr old job and making myself happy now. I've never been an academic type of person and now that I'm mature it's different. Although it's hard I would rather have this hard than the life I led before. As a single mom of 3, I've always been challenged. I choose this hard for me. So good for you!! We watch some of your videos in class for lectures. Thank you for the great content you have given us. I wish you and your family the best! Happy holidays.
Well done! As a theatre nurse I learnt to code over the last year to try to make preference cards work better for my theatre suite, glad I am not the only one doing this. Look forward to any more videos you make.
I'm so happy to see this video! I'm a surgical tech of almost 21yrs and, unfortunately I'm at the point of facing burnout, i have been for some time but it's all I've known. I'm currently off work for almost the next 2 months due to Achilles repair and some of my friends I've talked to have given me some intros to checking out coding when they hear the kind of lifestyle I yearn for at this point in life. So please do make more! I'd love to see how else can I help or make a difference in the field I love but doing something else. And I will welcome any tips you have about learning coding! I think I would be like you, I don't know if I could walk away completely- part time or per diem but I'm researching for something else to recharge me. So I sincerely thank you for this video!
Hi Shane! I just wanted to thank you for all you do. I am an LVN Scrub at a small rural hospital in Texas and I love to show our new nurses, that are training to scrub, your videos. You have helped me so much. I was looking for videos on surgical conscience when I ran across your channel. Procedure cards are the heart and brain in the OR and finding your new path in this area is revolutionary. Congratulations on your new job and please keep posting videos on the surgical experience. Thanks!
Even though you haven’t been making videos I found your Chanel in searching for info on becoming a surgical tech and been watching old videos! What you’ve done has helped me immensely! Thank you! ❤
Fantastic Shane!! So Happy for You!! Yes , I would love to see a video on what projects you are doing now and especially on how to improve preference cards, a huge area that needs great improvement. Your contribution to NVSA, volunteer work and ideas here in Nevada were outstanding. Sending love to you and your family. We will miss you! Your friend Dove Krueger CST
Just like today... I was passing a MAKO Knee and was trying to help a new Technologist by telling him to make notes for the order of the surgery. An app would help so much.
I am a new surgical tech student, and I want to say I really enjoyed and learned a lot from you. Im a little sad you wont make anymore videos for surgical technologist.
Love your videos. I actually watched your videos, then decided to go to school, and I graduated last June, and work at a big hospital now. I did my own card for these doctors. Quick notes help me a lot before I prepare and set up the cases, especially when I got call in to work. ,
I love your videos even before your major career change. Please tell us more about the apps and all this things that you are working on from home remotely. Best of luck and blessings on your new career.
@@SurgicalTechTips Became a Laser Tech. Like you stated, the work/life balance is way better. I'm working less and making way more than I did as a scrub.
Glad things are going well for you! I wanted to express my gratitude towards you and your channels content. Almost 5 years ago, I got into the ST life and have since moved on to a first assisting program. Starting to desire working for a vascular surgery rep company, so no shame in career changes! I hope that things continue to work out for you and thank you so much for starting what you did!
We watch your videos in my surgical tech school so informative and I decided to follow and was like he hasn't posted in a couple of years. Definitely helping us students
I think I speak for all of your followers when I say that we are pleased to see this new post and have missed seeing you in quite a while. I am happy that you have found something to get excited about and can share your expertise to make an app that will please the OR staff and docs to no end. Sounds like a wonderful project. PLEASE continue to make more videos to keep us posted as to what you are doing going forward. Your "extended family" wants to see more of you once again. Best of luck!
I also wanted something more challenging than just general surgery so I joined the cardiac team at my local children's hospital, repairing congenital defects. It's such a specific speciality it's really testing my abilities. Just subscribed to incision on RUclips due to your new found position and recommendation for this company. I will be working my way through the videos and look forward to seeing you again soon on one of your great videos. All your content is appreciated by the worldwide medical community. Keep uploading videos and best wishes with your new position making the operating room better understood for many many professionals and patients alike. CRST
I just started the surgical technology program and we use incision academy in our courses. I think it's very informative and super helpful to learn from.
From surgical tech/ neuro surg first assist, to full-stack programmer student at hack reactor, my path has been quite the adventure. While I do miss the OR, I believe in challenging myself to reach my true potential. Fun fact: I helped build preference cards into the database using Centricity. Looking back, I learned so much during my time in the OR, even taking on roles beyond my usual scope of practice; my attending did not belive in residents... Working in a hospital is more than just a job; it's a calling. It's not about the money, but the passion for what we do. No amount of overtime can fully compensate for the stress and dedication we put in as surgical techs. To all the future techs out there, embrace this experience and always keep growing. Scrubs are so underrated, and are a key component of the OR. My goal is to return to school and finish my MD degree, and this journey has been incredibly rewarding and provided really good insight into my future plans in medicine. Transitioning to the full-stack role has been quite a contrast. I feel like my brain has shifted its neural pathways to learn this new logic. Remote work is a change from the early mornings and late hours in the OR, but it's a new challenge I'm embracing. No more emergency lap appys that bump everyone in the board and could have waited another 24 hours, or 4 level lamys with fusion =/ good ol days. Our career paths may have similarities, and I'm inspired by your journey. Here's to chasing our dreams and staying true to our aspirations. Cheers!
Same with me, left OR as a scrub into tech boot camp. What inspired me to join the tech industry was because I wanted to build a game to help scrub nurses get better in surgery. Please do a video about incision!
I’m a little late to the party I’m just seeing this video but that’s amazing Shane that you were able to transition from medical to tech. I’m on the same boat actually I’ve been a CST for 11 years now I’ve scrubbed everything from GYN to thoracic. And honestly I’m just getting burnt out between being work and coming home to be a husband and a dad. I’m currently traveling and I’m in school to get my bachelors in software engineering
Hi, I have subscribed you channel when I was a student and then I been a Scrub in neuro theatres and as Anaesthetic and Recovery nurse. All thanks to you mate for the videos, they helped a lot and gave me power to be in OR . I am also working currently as REsearch nurse and work from home. I can also understand the tough programme, as I have done MAsters in Data Science recently part time , it never looked like part time though, specially learning everything from scratch including coding, stats n what not .. Congratulations.. We will look forward when you start sharing your new journey may be on another channel(?) .. keep us updated..
I have been wondering where you went! I always watched your videos when i was in surgical tech school! I wish you the very best and I am def going to finish surgical tech school. Thank you for your knowledge and making these educational videos for future generations of CST!
You are the reason why I started surg tech school I would watch all your videos even before I started the program , I got 6 months left, very nervous about clinicals coming up in the last 3 months, thanks for inspiring the new generation of csts !
Yesss make another video!! I love your videos ! So cool!!! I am currently in school for CST, starting clinicals soon! And honestly your videos have helped me a lot !! Thanks! And congrats on the new job!! 😎
Thank you for all the tips and advice. Please talk more about that app and if you could do a video about preference cart, it would be great. Thanks again man! It’s a school that you have here!
Congratulations!! Your company is very blessed to have you on board! And, Yes! I am very interested to know what all you are doing with them now, and any opportunities to join they may offer! Also, a huge Thank You to you for all you’ve shared about working in an OR in your previous posts,,,,tremendous help to me as you are a gifted teacher, too! 🤗👏👏
It's so nice to hear from you again! You inspired my to get into the OR out of college back in 2017-18 - I loved it! Funny, now I'm also working remote for cardiography support. God bless in your adventures!
It definitely has some massive upsides, but downsides too! It has been a nice transition overall though, and looking forward to being more comfortable in this setting into the future!
I remember watching your channel years ago, you influenced me in becoming a surg tech and now I graduate in a year. Good luck on your new adventure! Excited to hear more about the new company
So funny to see this video now: I watched your videos as a new nurse in the OR years ago and I am also now making the shift to tech. My goal is to one day be able to program my own games. Best of luck to you, fellow healthcare geek! 🥳
I graduate in May as a tech and your videos helped me before I started clinicals and during I appreciate you and will continue watching what you create 🙂
Wow. So great to see you again. Wishing you all the best in the world. I am not in the medical field, but I am surrounded by doctors in my family and I will keep pushing your materials to them. Good luck, I will be watching and enjoying it.
I am currently a FULL time CST in a Front-End class myself, and I am wondering what my next steps will be. I have been following you since 2019. I will continue to check in on your future endeavors. I hope to see more videos. & Thanks for all of your ST insight. It has been a big help.
I have 6months left in my program I was watching your videos for 2 years and you have helped me so much so thank you. Clinicals still give me anxiety tho
Good to see you on here again. I always recommend to the new students that we have come into our hospital to watch your videos. Congratulations on your new adventure. We always continue to learn and grow!
I just found your channel. I’m trying to turn my life around at 26 being years out of school and wasting my life working minimum wage jobs and I’m willing to commit to surgical tech and turn my life around. Im scared because I barely graduated high school (2.1 GPA) your channel is very helpful to prepare for fall semester and I’m going to take these next 5 months to buy course on skillshare to update my skills and get ahead and watch your whole entire RUclips channel. I’m sad I found your channel this late but I’ll subscribe and follow your journey and wish you the best wishes. Your helping a college dropout change his life around and we need more people like you !!
Wow thats crazy 5 months ago i did the same thing! I had been in the OR for 8 years, 3 years traveling as a CSFA. Changed careers into tech and work from home now as well. Its a huge difference in work life balance for sure. Wish you good luck!
Woah were almost on the same path ! I was a travel surgical tech for 7 years then my husband got assigned toJapan through the air force. Hard to find jobs here for military spouses. Long story short my bestfriend is a software engineer and he talked me into trying it out. Im going through a full stack bootcamp thats going to take a year. Its a big leap of faith im worried because im overseas and the time difference i wont be able to find a job i cant wrap my head around getting a job without the traditional degree etc. Im looking forward to using my brain more than my body anyways this gave me some hope theres a light at the end of the tunnel
Great job. It sounds like you're helping OR everywhere. God knows everyone needs help in that department. I was asked to build a PREFERENCE CARD in PICIS, a new computer program to help OR. It was great and very informative. We worked with a lot of IT techs, and it took a year to build a new computer system for our OR.
I'm introducing your content to my class of Bioengineering students thanks so much for all the education, the depth, breadth, and IRL nature of it is really amazing and effective
I take my CST exam here in Vegas on 3/3 and could not be more excited! Once employed, I would love to help beta test any apps that your team puts together. I think this app will be of great use to all of the new techs going for that first job, or travel tech's that don't know the new hospital/surgeons that they are going to work with. Great idea!!
Definitely hope you still make videos! I’m super interested in what you’re doing right now as well. I recently went thru a database-oriented bootcamp and am also making a career path change, so I totally get it. It’s challenging but also fun. Best of luck.
I started watching your videos when I became a cst and followed you till u became a CSFA and I also did the same and I love it I can’t imagine my self doing anything else

It’s incredible to know you’re gettinng to spend more time with the family and have a more flexible schedule! That’s awesome man!! YOU ARE A LEGEND! Thank you for all the educational videos! I passed my NCST AND I DEFINITELY HAVE TO THANK YOU FOR THAT!! ❤️
So glad to see you're doing well! I came from the video recorded 5 years ago when you interviewed Chris at the Surg. Tech school!! Can't wait to see what you have in store for everyone 😊

Thank you for everything you’ve posted so far, and good luck with your new career! Cant wait to see how the app turns out!!
Thanks Taylor! Can't wait to create something GREAT that OR's across the country can hopefully utilize.
Watched this channel when I started working in the OR 4 years ago, it was much help to learn more about my job....Thank u. I too left the OR in Jan and started a new journey...Good luck
Good luck on your new venture outside the hospital!
Bro , I’m so happy for you . Im a tech guy as well . i just finished a qa coding boot camp and it was hard as hell lol . Good luck on your new journey
Dude. Its soooo much. I swear I was putting in at least 18-20 hours a week learning for 6months and came out of it still feeling like a knew nothing.
Awesome! RNFA is a great position. I loved my many assisting days.
Love, love, love this.
I am using your channel again during a job interview. I have learned so much from you and I always come back to remind myself tips.
Any content you decide to share would be great. Glad you're okay! Past few years have been rough.
Covid was rough for sure. Crazy times in the hospital.
Thank you for all that your have shared over the years , it was much appreciated 🙏🏾💪🏽❣️
Well done! As a theatre nurse I learnt to code over the last year to try to make preference cards work better for my theatre suite, glad I am not the only one doing this. Look forward to any more videos you make.
That's awesome! I was trying to create my own preference card app throughout my front end coding school too. Super fun stuff.
We LOVE your videos! As an Instructor we watch your videos and I tell all my students to review your channel.
Thanks!
Congrats! I have enjoyed and learned so much from your videos! Would love to hear more about your new adventures.
Thanks Casie! Ill be sure to keep you all updated.
Even though you haven’t been making videos I found your Chanel in searching for info on becoming a surgical tech and been watching old videos! What you’ve done has helped me immensely! Thank you! ❤
Amazing to hear! Thank you!
Good to see you again! While I’ll miss your hospital videos, I’m glad to hear life is treating you well.
Thanks Leslie.
I am a new surgical tech student, and I want to say I really enjoyed and learned a lot from you. Im a little sad you wont make anymore videos for surgical technologist.
Good luck in your new endeavors.
Thank you Pat!
Love your videos. I actually watched your videos, then decided to go to school, and I graduated last June, and work at a big hospital now. I did my own card for these doctors. Quick notes help me a lot before I prepare and set up the cases, especially when I got call in to work. ,
Amazing work Iris. Personal p-cards help so much!
I love your videos even before your major career change. Please tell us more about the apps and all this things that you are working on from home remotely. Best of luck and blessings on your new career.
I left scrubbing two years ago and I couldn't be happier!
What did you venture into!?
@@SurgicalTechTips Became a Laser Tech. Like you stated, the work/life balance is way better. I'm working less and making way more than I did as a scrub.
Laser tech as in deematology?@@Locutis9
Glad things are going well for you! I wanted to express my gratitude towards you and your channels content. Almost 5 years ago, I got into the ST life and have since moved on to a first assisting program. Starting to desire working for a vascular surgery rep company, so no shame in career changes! I hope that things continue to work out for you and thank you so much for starting what you did!
My man, thank you Eric!
We watch your videos in my surgical tech school so informative and I decided to follow and was like he hasn't posted in a couple of years. Definitely helping us students
Thank you Breeanda!
Thank you for your help, am a new CTS and your videos has helped me out tremendously!
Congratulations on your new job
I also wanted something more challenging than just general surgery so I joined the cardiac team at my local children's hospital, repairing congenital defects. It's such a specific speciality it's really testing my abilities. Just subscribed to incision on RUclips due to your new found position and recommendation for this company. I will be working my way through the videos and look forward to seeing you again soon on one of your great videos. All your content is appreciated by the worldwide medical community. Keep uploading videos and best wishes with your new position making the operating room better understood for many many professionals and patients alike.

Amazingly kind words. Thank you!
I just started the surgical technology program and we use incision academy in our courses. I think it's very informative and super helpful to learn from.
That's awesome!
Good to see you again. Congratulations on your new journey!
Cheers!
That's amazing our how similar our paths are! Cheers brother!
Same with me, left OR as a scrub into tech boot camp. What inspired me to join the tech industry was because I wanted to build a game to help scrub nurses get better in surgery. Please do a video about incision!
I will keep you posted!
Absolutely! Thanks Govind.
That's awesome. You're going to crush clinicals!
I would love to hear about your new venture.
I have used your videos several times over the years for my students. Thanks!
Congratulations!! Your company is very blessed to have you on board! And, Yes! I am very interested to know what all you are doing with them now, and any opportunities to join they may offer! Also, a huge Thank You to you for all you’ve shared about working in an OR in your
previous posts,,,,tremendous help to me as you are a gifted teacher, too! 🤗👏👏
Thanks so much Martha, I'll keep you updated!
It's so nice to hear from you again! You inspired my to get into the OR out of college back in 2017-18 - I loved it! Funny, now I'm also working remote for cardiography support. God bless in your adventures!
Very cool, what type of remote work is that? I'm intrigued..
congrats! Glad to see everything working out and working from home must be awesome!
Thanks Emily! Graduation is right around the corner
Shaneee!!! Congratulations! Wishing you the best the very best! Thank you for your knowledge as a ST! Thank you and many blessings to you!
Thank you Alyssa!
So funny to see this video now: I watched your videos as a new nurse in the OR years ago and I am also now making the shift to tech. My goal is to one day be able to program my own games. Best of luck to you, fellow healthcare geek! 🥳
Love it. Good luck in your ventures!
Thanks Dan!
Yes, please continue making videos on your new career. It sounds so interesting.
Was good to hear from you . Good luck with your venture.
I have seen couple of videos of yours relating to CSSD. You are awesome. Hope you continue what you do.Good Luck .
Welcome back!! yes please, we need more videos from your new career!! thank you best luck!!
That's awesome to hear. Thank you!
Absolutely!
Definitely hope you still make videos! I’m super interested in what you’re doing right now as well. I recently went thru a database-oriented bootcamp and am also making a career path change, so I totally get it. It’s challenging but also fun. Best of luck.
Absolutely, continue making your videos!!!
I started watching your videos when I became a cst and followed you till u became a CSFA and I also did the same and I love it I can’t imagine my self doing anything else
Love the patterns on your back wall
And congratulations on your new job!
I would love to hear about incision! Come back to the channel for that when you feel ready and comfortable! I’m so happy to hear you’re going for what you feel is right up your alley and best! ❤️
Legendary status. Whoa. Hahaha
Follow your dreams buddy! Loved the quality of your videos. Can’t wait to see this app
So glad to see you're doing well! I came from the video recorded 5 years ago when you interviewed Chris at the Surg. Tech school!! Can't wait to see what you have in store for everyone 😊
I was so happy to see the notification for this video pop up. I'm glad you are back. Any content videos would be great.
Love to hear it, thanks for always sticking around!
Hi, Shane
Hope all is going well for you. Hope you can read this. Totally understand what your job is, doing something similar but still an educator in Surgical Technology. I still am involved with our program and students. Also working with INCISIONS, would love to hear from you.
Good luck to you, we will miss you. Continue if you can your SurgTech videos.
Many Blessings.
Thank you Jesse!
It's time to pass the baton. I would love to do it.... just don't know how you did it, but there's someone, somewhere and somehow knows. Good luck with your new career.
Congrats on the career move! There are career paths for Surgical Techs outside the OR, and it's awesome you're on that path.
Yes! Would enjoy hearing all about your new career. Definitely post a video or a few! :)
I’m one step closer to being a surgical tech student! I’m happy for you! Good luck!🥰
Amazing! Good luck!
