I got a pretty Anthurim which I rescued from work when my co worker was about to throw it in the dumpster it was almost dead with droppy leaves and dead leaves. People at work thought that I was taking home a dead plant. Now I got it back to life and its blooming light pink with hot pink its different from the average you find in most stores
I just rescue purchased 2 at a pharmacy this week. They were dried out. I noted one had aerial roots so I had to get them. I soaked them for 15 mins in water and by next am they were back including flowers. So pretty. I've had Phals for a few years and before Valentine's Day bought 1 in bloom and 1 with buds only. My original got knocked over too many times by my cat and died. The last rescue plant has not had flower spike in 2 yrs but is huge. I'm working on improving conditions. I'm so glad I found this video and will try to make these happy. Thank you for this very informative video.
Anthura. I work over there in Bleiswijk, Netherlands. A real AWESOME and GOOD place to work. I also have 2 anthurium plants. Got them from Anthura. A pink and a purple Anthurium plant. Yeah they are just AWESOME. Greetings from the Netherlands. 🥰😄
I recently changed the soil of my plant to a blend for orchids as I noticed it had aerials (sp) like an orchid plants..and bloomed! It had not bloomed since I was gifted three years ago... this video confirmed my choice. Now if I can just get another one through propagation!
My great grandfather and grandfather cultivated these in the Caribbean. He had so many colours and varieties. Nothing like commercial growers however. I have descendants of his red ones!
When I was a kid living in the Philippines, my mother grew anthurium using coconut hush and charcoal only, no soil at all. They all strive very well. Then she used dried egg shells as fertilisers and water the plants from to time with rice water. I'm now living in Australia and I struggled how to grow anthurium, it's very frustrating. While back in the Phils growing anthurium is just like growing tomatoes. You throw the seeds and it grows perfectly fine.
Growing mine, I have noticed there is a huge difference when you grow it in a very bright area. The size of the leaves and flowers is just so much bigger

I switched her into a terracotta pot because she was struggling in plastic and I'm so glad I did. She's coming back with a vengeance and I can't wait for all the blooms to fill in. Thanks for sharing such a great video as always Summer. Have a beautiful day! Thank you, from the bottom of my pot! 🍃🐞
Hi! You mentioned growing them in your bathroom, I’ve been considering this as I read the humidity is great for them. Does your bathroom have a window or do you just provide light for them when you turn the light on? Mine got a yellow spot on only one leaf, then the spot turned brown, with a yellow rim. Not sure if it has some sort of disease, or maybe I gave it too much water or light. I’m struggling with this plant! Lol Mine is in a terracota pot. I switched her since the moment I bought her. She was also in plastic.
I purchased my very 1st Anthurium. I was captivated by the colour & unique flower. I've had it 4 about 6 mo's & it stopped blooming. I have followed your advice & changed where it was. I've put it where it gets more indirect sunlight. I'm waiting to see the 1st bloom! :) Thank you.

I have mine in a plastic pot with regular soil but she is thriving so well, when I choose to repot again I'll come back to this video because it answered alot of questions for me too!! Good luck with all your babies!

I love these type of videos! You actually go through and demonstrate everything. As a novice plant mum, this helps so much. I’ve never purchased any of these type of plants but will try now. Maybe it will give me practice for another I’d really like to own one day. The Dorayaki. I’m assuming the care is the same??
I'm glad this was helpful. I'll be doing more in-depth care guides. I think that feels right after rifling through the "365 Days of Plants" project, which just touched upon the plant care around the edges. And I wasn't familiar with the Dorayaki cultivar actually? I assumed it was a dessert. haha. (The name refers to a bean cake I think).... But the more velvet-leaf varieties grow more in the understory on the margins of the rainforests vs. as on trees as epiphytes higher up, so I would keep that in mind as far as lighting goes.
@@summerrayneoakes thank you for this video. I have been given anthurium plant but the young leaves have started drying out. The pot has no drainage and I do not know how often I should water it.

Just today, purchased an A. Andraeanum ‘Black Beauty,’ ...love them. I’m one of the many ppl bitten by the aroid “bug”! Anthuriums are a bit like fancier philodendrons to me. If ever I go to the nursery, and there aren’t many philodendron, I just look around; anthurium, epipremnum, syngonium, zantedeschia, spathiphyllum, diffenbachia, aglaeonema, homalomena...! All aroids.
I found one of these at a local nursery for $20. It was HUGE! The leaves were easily twice the size of my hand! I I didn’t know they could grow this large!
Yes ! I have one that is almost 10 years , it survived all kind of bad culture conditions because when i got it i didn't know anything about plants . Now it's thriving and is huge, the leaves have a wonderful shape when they get older !! Love this plant !!
Just purchased my first one today so I am taking this all in. I am so excited. It is a beautiful plant and I don't want to destroy it. I do well with humans (I'm a nurse} but plants are often a different case. I tend to do to much as a general rule so.... here's hoping.
Mine has never bloomed again, have had it maybe 3-4 years now. I fertilize it sometimes, not regularly. But this spring I moved it to more sunnier side of the apartment. Still no flowers. Last place it was in north/east light, now its about south facing window. It keeps growing new leaves through these years, but slooowly.. Not much progress, even it has been now like 6 months in better light. (and it's been summer where I live, now turnign to fall.) Its still the same pace. I'm definetly gonna use next time these orchid fertilizer and repot it to more airy soil! Let's see if that helps. I don't know what more can I do..maybe fertilize more...?
mine has never bloomed either and I do not know what to do... I moved it into my bathroom because I know they like humidity maybe try spraying the leaves or putting pebbles on the top of the soil? Lol idk I'm gonna try orchid fertilizer too and different soil.

the way you mix your soil , I expected you to bake at 250 for 30 min and pull out a batch of cookies LOL. Really great video, VERY informative. I just got home with my first two Anthuriums (or Anturio as it is called in spanish), I got a white and a deep purple.... looking forward to putting your knowledge to use. Thank you and keep up the great efforts!
I just propagated one of these!!! So beautiful! I didn't know they were related to peace plans as well. I'm going to put them right next to each other in my house!
My normal mix for anthurium is sphagnum moss moss mixed with ordinary potting soil. Does the job perfectly. Don't overwater, you would rather be on the underwater side. Grab the soil. The soil mix should not stick on your hands. The soil should crumble down away from hands but not feel desert dry or sticky moist. Just in between that. It should not stick on your skin. The key to anthurium is stable room temperature (no sudden fluctuations - it can acclimate a good range of temperature ) and air circulation (a window slightly open) but not dry stale air. The darker/ greener the foliage, the less sunlight it needs. The best way is to try different areas of the house. Anthuriums love it when there is air circulation. Not a blizzard. Just so it knows it with nature. Consider where you live. Ie tropical vs wintery areas. Because this will dictate how quickly the soil becomes desert dry. Water only when it becomes dry. The pointy part will go brown if left dry too long. I always leave a stick in the soil. I pull it out to determine how dry the soil way under. Even if top soil is dry and the stick feels moist still. Do not water. It is Happy underneath. Hope that helps. And one more thing. Grab a wet wipe or moist cloth. And dampen and clean those leaves and flowers. By wiping, you are letting them breathe (photosynthesis) The casual touching and movement of the plant is the BEST way of preventing any potential pest. How can pest take over if you are disturbing infestation by wiping it casually. Think about it. Be gentle with new leave unfurling tho.
Hi Summer! Thanks for another informative video. I love your content! I have 2 questions: 1. Is it possible the anthruium can bloom once and never again? Mine only grows leaves. I only ever had 1 bloom. 2. Can you do a video on how to fix chlorosis in plants? I've been seeing it on my pileas and I dont know how to amend the soil to fix it. Thank you:)
I find these plants very temperamental with light. I have a white one and depending on how much light it gets, the flowers can be bright shiny white or ugly smeared green.
Yes, both fun and inspirational Summer, also pleasing to watch as you always find the right outfit to match your floral environment, as if you have worked in fashion and design before...:)
I never fertelise my plants lol. ive got 6 flamingo in my workspace 3 white 3 red. The red once keep blooming the white onces take their time. Its my number one easy plant. Light spot water once per week i sprat them with water once perweek but they can live without.
I am assuming I will need to order an Anthurium on-line since all of the Nurseries in my area are closed for the winter (8b Springfield Oregon, USA.) and we don't have any Floral Shops nearby. I worked in a Floral Shop gosh...35 yrs ago and loved it but didn't earn enough to make a living so Plan B; I became an Accountant working for City Government. Anyway, back in the 80's we used a lot of Anthuriums and Carnations; it was before young beginning certified Florists (I took Floriculture classes at a college) were allowed to do many 'An Original Design by..' arrangements. Up until then you were given a "recipe" prepared by the big floral companies and told to use specific flowers that were on the lower end of the budget, or a better priced arrangement could include more of the Tropicals. Your video sure took me back to some fond memories, Thank you : D
Its very helpful to watch the repotting and see the roots being covered cause i confused myself into thinking some of the roots needed to be exposed like an orchid. epiphytic.. Mine were taken by spider mites....sad day!
I've seen them attached to rocks for sale in stores-completely exposed as well. So they are quite adaptable. But I would imagine that if the roots have been potted in potting medium-transitioning them to a new way of growing will be a tad more challenging.

I killed my first Anthurium by over watering. Recently purchased another plant and so far so good, so this video came in handy. Thank you.
Perfect timing, i think i nearly killed mine...started googling possible problem and solutions yesterday 🌺🌻🌼🌞
I really find your videos very informative and the videos are incredible!
Thank you so much. I made mistake and planted it in wrong soil. Thanks again for good advice.
Summer thank you for your video, but did I miss watering tips for this plant???
Use your brain
@@RashidASatti yikes we don’t tolerate that kind of hostility here
@@RashidASatti not cool
@@RashidASatti so rude, that is a valid concern.
It’s the “ultimate care guide” without watering 😅🤷🏼♀️
Wow came here looking for the beautiful red Anthurium but fallen for the more beautiful gardener! :-)
Hi Summer! Thank you for this wonderful video. If you could please get more into watering for those of us who cannot figure it out by ourselves yet.
My favorite indoor flower plant! 😉
wat een mooie bloemen en tettenboezem ;)))
heb er weer van genoten
ik ook manbro
wow ik ook
Dear Summer, many thanks for your lovely and informative video. Could you indicate how much and how often to water the anthuriums? Thanks!
You give good knowledge about anthurium plant and propagation, soil and very nice vedio shoot 😊👌
Summer, you’re the best !! ❤️🔥
Thank-you. I needed those instructions.
Hi Summer! Thanks for another informative video. I love your content! I have 2 questions:
1. Is it possible the anthruium can bloom once and never again? Mine only grows leaves. I only ever had 1 bloom.
2. Can you do a video on how to fix chlorosis in plants? I've been seeing it on my pileas and I dont know how to amend the soil to fix it.
Thank you:)
I have yet to try growing this flower....Thanks for your video Madam
Wonderful video
I am one of the antherium lover. I thankyou very much for making it on the market display. Please help me how to make my own garden too.
Yey! New sub. Love it as always. Thanks for the info. 💚💚💚
Thank you. I enjoyed your presentation.
In my country ( Colombia) I've seen these beautiful plants, especially in the Andes area.
Your video sure took me back to some fond memories,
Thank you : D
Excellent Video! You REally know your Anthurium!!!!!! I'm going to try that soil mix!
Thank you. This was a very informative video. Much Love.
Good evening from Indonesia, thanks for the information Summer 😃
Good evening and. you're welcome!

Lovely vedio. I'm a new subscriber to your channel from Sydney.
Loves anthurim. Now I can repot my plant. Thanks for sharing.
Hi! I have been having issues with watering my Anthuriums and I was hoping you would touch on watering tips. How would you recommend that I water them? They seem to hate getting watered. Even if I wait 3-4 weeks to water them and then add water I still get yellowing leaves?! Any suggestions? Thank you for the information in the video!
I was wondering whether it was me, who did not catch how these flowers like to be watered. But it seems it was not properly explained in 13min video
great info! I need to separate a plant i recently got into two, and this info will really help. especially since i have seen these before but really know much about them 😆
I really love your videos, i've learned so much.
Oh My God, I loved this. Thank you very much for sharing
Mine is growing like crazy and I feel like it needs to go a size up, I've had it for almost 2 years. Can i re-pot it now...?
