Amy, I give you a lot of credit for trying different techniques. I have not invested in any foiling products. I just use embossing powder… because I have about a million of them!😂
Hi Amy, I’ve had similar results with the sticky and embossing powders. Not surprised but happy to see I’m not the only one. I know not everyone has a laser printer (hubby chose it) , but hands hands down, down, printing in black ink (or copying a stamped image using the Copy feature of the printer) yields the best and most consistent results when I want to foil something. Just wanted to share that in case others with laser printers hadn’t tried that yet. ❤
Beautiful end results - love your card! I, too, struggle with stamping/foiling and stick to laser printed foiling. Sigh... I'm eagerly awaiting the day we can successfully use our favourite stamps with foil...
As many crafters I don’t do foiling, there so many things I can use to do handmade cards. Thank you so much for showing your real experience with foil ❤
Amy, I love foiling but like you just proved it’s a hit or miss game. When it works, it is beautiful. I have had good luck with the toner sheets Gina K sells. Your card turned out very nice anyway!
Thanks for showing your experiments. You just saved me buying another product to try when I can get double duty from something I already have. You're a very crafty lumberjack🤣🤣
Kudos to you for showing us the dark side of being creative and that a pretty card can still be the result of our less-than-perfect attempts. I have a hot foiling machine used solely for weddings, anniversaries, and Christmas. It just seems to elevate the cards or projects. I like the look of heat embossing and do have the clear and basic color powders. They are used rarely because cats are perpetually in, out, and on my space, and I fear they will eat, breathe in, or get it in their eyes. When I do emboss, it's an all day project with the door closed and audio loud enough so I can't hear the scratching and crying. Sigh...
Come at it like a like a lumber 7:57 jack!😂😂😂 thanks for sharing. I've tried foiling on sticky embossing powder, too, and not gotten great results. I need to do more experimentation.
Thanks for sharing a great technique comparison video with us. Sadly I have not had consistent good luck with any technique so far trying to foil from my stamps…. I am also becoming pickier about who’s pre-printed panels, and the designs, that I use. Somewhere I picked up using a swiffer-type cloth quickly over panels and foil sheets before putting them through my minc. Which imho really does work better than a regular laminator, for me! Foil, and heat embossing really does elevate a card. Agree with others, the hot foiling fad is too much of a rabbit hole for my budget!🧑🏼🎨😀🍁
I know this is an older video but just want to add that you were right on the timing with sticky embossing powder (also correct that it’s powdered glue). Holtz has a video on it (I think he was at creativation or something) and says that you have to be quick once it’s heated or it won’t work. Just looked up video. It’s from scraptimevideos and is 9 yo. Thanks for the video and information! Love your approach and your card looks great 😊
Very pretty card!! I struggle with foiling too and get very frustrated. Either it doesn't foil the whole design or I get lots of over foiling so I don't use it as much as I would like. So I'm with you on that girl!!!
I hope you were wearing your lab coat and taking copious notes in your science journal. And how cool that the card you made looks lovely despite your trials and unthrilledness about foil! (I have a hot foil machine that was on a crazy good sale, even though I really wasn’t into foiling or the look of it. I took a class and don’t use it. It 100% works, just not my jam so much.)
Your card is very pretty! I love a good craft experimentation sess, So thanks!! I guess you could've heat embossed with gold powder and saved yourself some hassle? 😉I have never tried foiling and while I'm sure it does some things differently or better than embossing powders, it just seems too 'high maintenance' for me. 🤔 Thanks for the fun!😊
I like that look of foil which is a little bit patchy, especially in the background. I don't use foil much either - I love die cutting- but i have found the best resuts if you cant be fagged with laminating it and you don't have a hot foil machine, is the Decofoil DecoGel Duo which can be used cold in your die cutting machine, and also in your laminator.
@@amyswares thanks for replying! I happen to be crafting when I watched your video and took out my heat and stick powder and tried this technique using a Christmas sentiment stamp set. The foiling actually works! This is awesome! It wasn’t perfect but for my first time, it was way better than I had expected
I've never heard of sticky embossing powder. Definitely the clear worked better. You might not have knocked off foil with the ink blending -- if there was embossing that didn't stick the foil, those bits are embossed and they'll resist the ink. 😊

Thanks Judy! I appreciate the encouragement!

I have actually been seriously considering a laser printer so I'm glad to hear it's working well for you! Thank you 😊

You are so welcome!

Thanks so much for watching friend! That's good to know about the Gina k sheets.
That was a very interesting experiment with interesting results.
Thanks so much!

Oh wow, good job keeping the kitties safe. Thanks for watching,❤️
Great comparison!! 👍🏼😃
Thanks friend!
I appreciate you trying this out and sharing it with everyone. It’s good to know and I’ll definitely be giving this a try!

Amy! Thanks so much for this video and thanks for doing all of the investigative work for us. You’re the best!
I appreciate you watching!
I have the same thing happen to me!! I never know if it will work!! Thanks for sharing!!
It's so hit or miss! Thanks for watching!

Arrrgh so frustrating isn't it? Thanks for watching friend!
I finally bought a laminator, but I keep wondering if foil is earth the expense and aggravation.
It can definitely be frustrating
Might it work with gilding flakes perhaps? ❤
Ooh maybe, I have not used those before. Let me know if you try it

It's TOTALLY high maintenance which is one of the many reasons I don't like it much lol

Definitely, duo is an option. I have that as well! Thanks for watching and for the note!
I love the look of foil but I suppose I am just a lazy crafter. It’s a bit too fussy for me to deal with most of the time. ❤
It's so fussy, I feel ya!
Is sticky embossing powder same as the heat and stick powder?
I'm not sure honestly, I haven't heard of heat and stick powder before. It kind of seems like it might be but I couldn't say for sure

I won't be investing in any type of heat foiling. It's gorgeous but, another $ sucker! Lol TFS
I don't blame you one bit!!
