All Nebraska heard for the entire month leading up was "SEC this and SEC that." Huskers had your "SEC" that night.

Really? Nebraska was a powerhouse in the mid-90s. If anything, Tennessee was trying to prove that they were on Nebraska's level.
I'm just glad that Tee Martin led the team right down the field for that score . . . setting up what would be a magical season for the Vols in 1998.

This is actually one of the most impactful games in Tennessee football history. Fulmer realized Tennessee needed to be much tougher and far more physical, like this Nebraska team. Fulmer took that lesson to the 1998 National Championship.

I watched this game when it aired. Didn't realize how biased the announcers were (it seems). It sure felt like they didn't want my Huskers to win.

Should've been fsu playing Nebraska! The sec champ was contracted to the sugar bowl and this one year they broke it because they wanted Peyton to ride of into the sunset with the vols having a realistic shot if Michigan lost ? * Not saying FSU would've beat Nebraska, an even if they it didnt matter because Michigan won. But any other year pre BCS era forward into now 1998-present , fsu would've played Nebraska I the orange bowl and Tennessee would've played who ever I the sugar bowl like the sec had every year in history besides 95 because Florida was #2 and the only other undefeated under the bowl alliance rules but Tennessee wasn't in the top 2 and like i said ncaa tri some b.s. to give Peytons non big game winning ass one last dig effort at a winner!

@@sgt.smuggypuss2131 he won the championship the next year? And you say idk what I'm talk in about! Tennessee won it the next year ya jerkoff! Not Peyton. How did Peytons last chance turn out I cant remember? Haha. At the very least the game wouldn't have been over at halftime and Peyton wouldn't have been benched for playing like shit, " which he did in every big game in college I might add " and not had to see his back up who never played a college game march right down the field and score a touchdow twice against a defense that made him look like he was a back up and he could only muster 3 points against all night! And feel that much more inadequate than he probably already did! Had fsu played em. Or maybe I'm mistaken and what I took for a look of complete demoralization on the sidelines was really him just daydreaming and reminiscing about the good ole' Citrus Bowls of years past?
