    Makers 46 Cask Strength, if you can find it, is great. Still on the shelves in my neck of the woods. Bulliet is moving their production to Lebanon, KY with their own distillery.

      It's really good. I have yet to spot a bottle, but got to try a sample bottle and was pretty impressed.
      I think the only Maker's product that I have tried that I liked better was FAE-02, but that's a hundred dollar bottle, so it's not really a fair comparison.

      This is old but my local store as quite a bit of Makers 46 Cask Strength, boxes on the floor. I haven't picked one up yet, Makers is nice but I used it more as a mixer vs sipping. Bulleit is good stuff but ended up switching to Elijah Craig when a lot of local bars pulled Bulleit from the shelves after the issue with Tom Bulleit's daughter and Diageo. I honestly haven't messed with it since myself having started trying other brands.

      We actually recorded this twice (technical issue), and the first one included JDBP as a bonus. It was too long so we scrapped in on the second run. I am tired of people arguing about JD being bourbon. I don't drink enough OFBS to include it, and Woodford batch proof it too expensive for me to consider including it. The yield per barrel goes down 10-15% but the price goes up 300+%. Just can't get down with that.

      The company line is that is is intended to be a regular available product. The problem with the stupid laws in the US regarding private transfer of alcohol push redistribution in the black market. This makes market manipulation possible. I believe there has been some market manipulation of this label. I do not think it will be possible for the bad actors or the price gouge stores to keep up these ridiculous prices when WT hits the market with the amount of product they have indicated they will be bringing. TBH I was just going to do Rare Breed, but Curtis brought the 13, so I included it in the video since with was there.

    It is crazy too think that I had my first bottle of Bookers in 1992. Sadly I was just out of college and didn't know how special it was. I was just fortunate enough to have a friend with money who liked good Bourbon. The interesting thing back then was the bottles proof varied wildly. I had a bottle one time with a 146 proof, it was something.

      @@josephkorzekwa1995 I did not mean to indicate that Booker's is at a fixed proof now. I say in the video it is famous for being the first commercially mass produced barrel proof, which means they bottle it at what every proof it comes out of the barrel at. By definition the proof varies per batch. You may be confusing my statement about not seeing one over 140 to mean that they are usually 140. I did not mean that at all. I usually see them between 128-136 proof, but above 140 proof means that by HAZMAT law they can not be flown on a plane. We refer to whiskey that is over 140 as a HAZMAT, and I don't think I have ever seen a HAZMAT Booker's.

    Barrel Proof?...Yes, Please!!! Happy Post-Bottled In Bond Day, boyz!
    I'm very lucky to have last year's GTS, one of the Bardstown Batch (haven't opened yet), the A, B, & C from last year's Elijah Craig, a Rare Breed, 2 1/2 of those MM Cask Strengths, a 4 Roses Single Barrel and Limited Edition.
    I also have the Larceny Barrel Proof from last year, but I'm really not liking it...it has too much of a wet straw palate for my taste. The single barrel version is similar. Have you noticed that in those bottles?

      I get a ton of peanut butter on Larceny BP. Some days it hits me different than others. There are days I don't like it. It isn't wet straw to me, but not always pleasant. On days it aligns with my palate I love it.

    Haven’t gotten to the end of the video yet so I may edit this but do we not consider Michter’s a major distillery? I thought their barrel entry proof was 103 or 104. I actually avoided their standard offerings because of how low proof they are but, when I had my first M10, I thought it was really good and started researching them more. When entry proof is 103 and you’re only “watering it down” to 95ish there’s still a lot of those barrel proof flavors and mouth feel in there that I normally love with the high proof stuff.

    • @BourbonRealTalk
      @BourbonRealTalk  2 года назад

      You are correct. Michter's does have a lower barrel entry proof. I was also wrong about WT. They changed from 110 to 115 around 2006. I do not consider Michter's a major distillery. No one even knows who makes their product. Some of it might be theirs, but we know not all of it is, and with them claiming heritage in Pennsylvania and Louisville it is hard to tell what they really are. I do not know what their overall volume is, but a distillery like WT likely spills more whiskey per year than Michter's sells.

      You are correct and I am wrong. I did a private barrel selection with Eddie and he explained the change to 110 because too many barrels didn't qualify for Russell's because the proof didn't rise enough at the lower levels of the rickhouse.
