I had the exact same issue after fitting Rinehart pipes to my Super Chief. Took it to the dealers who checked it out under warranty free of charge. They didn't find anything wrong and said that it happens quite a lot to Indians, and that it's nothing to worry about. They also suggested that it could be due the freer flowing Rinehart pipes. I found a method to reset the engine fault light, which was useful, as the fault, and power loss happened twice more over the next few weeks. As I had always intended to get a stage 1 upgrade I bit the bullet and bought a bigger air filter and since I already had the pipes got a Lloyds tune. Haven't had the issue again, and got more power as an added benefit. An expensive fix I guess, but as I've said I always intended do it, just not so soon.

Had this happen a number of times on my Challenger.
First incident was riding on highway, loss of power, let bike sit, fired back up codes persisted but power was available again, rode it to dealership. Battery terminals had some corrosion, leading to connection issue leading to voltage issue, leading to code.
Also had a TPS sensor replacement for a second occurrence under warranty to deal with any other possible causes.
Finally, I would get this diagnostic report and warning after having my bike on trickle charger, and on first start up. After period of time riding code cleared itself.
From my experiences the codes all stemmed from voltage issues.
    I hope this helps!

Horrible feeling when this happens especially when it’s a new bike. Good that you could get home. It was a Sunday it could have been worse! Thanks for sharing and being calm and collective. I would have had steam coming out of my ears. I shall watch your next video to see the outcome.

A sudden loss of power in an Indian Chief Dark Horse motorcycle could be caused by several factors:
    1. **Fuel System Issues**:
    - **Fuel Pump Failure**: If the fuel pump isn’t working properly, it can cause a sudden drop in fuel delivery.
    - **Clogged Fuel Filter**: A clogged filter can restrict fuel flow, leading to power loss.
    - **Empty Fuel Tank**: Simply running out of fuel.
    2. **Electrical Problems**:
    - **Battery Issues**: A weak or failing battery can cause power loss.
    - **Loose or Corroded Connections**: Poor connections can disrupt the electrical system.
    - **Faulty Alternator**: If the alternator fails, the battery may not charge, leading to power loss.
    3. **Engine Problems**:
    - **Sensor Failure**: A faulty sensor (e.g., oxygen sensor, MAP sensor) can lead to improper engine management.
    - **Ignition System Issues**: Problems with spark plugs or ignition coils can cause misfires and power loss.
    - **Mechanical Failure**: Issues like a blown head gasket or poor compression can affect engine performance.
    4. **Air Intake and Exhaust Issues**:
    - **Clogged Air Filter**: A restricted air filter can reduce airflow to the engine.
    - **Exhaust Blockage**: A blockage can cause back pressure and power loss.
    5. **ECU or Software Issues**:
    - **ECU Malfunction**: Problems with the engine control unit (ECU) can affect performance.
    - **Software Glitches**: Software issues might affect how the bike manages power delivery.
    6. **Transmission Problems**:
    - **Clutch Slippage**: A slipping clutch can cause power loss.
    - **Gear Issues**: Problems with the transmission can affect power transfer.
    **Immediate Actions**:
    - **Check Fuel**: Ensure there is enough fuel in the tank.
    - **Inspect Battery**: Check for charge and connections.
    - **Look for Error Codes**: Use a diagnostic tool to check for any error codes in the ECU.
For a precise diagnosis, consulting a professional mechanic or authorized service center is recommended.

Well that`s a bit of a mystery Paul, and not good enough for a new Indian, should`nt happen to this machine considering how long they`ve been manufactoring!?. Hopfully it`s a one off glitch.

Great to see you got home Paul. Had a funny feeling it may be dirty fuel or water though I have seen this with the old cdi box which had to be replaced. Hoping it’s not much as I know how much bikes can become almost like family.

@@BikesILikeInteresting about the cold weather you mentioned Paul as if the battery had a voltage drop it may send a false message. One of my bikes they simply disconnected and reconnected the battery and problem was solved.

My Sport Chief gets the same error sometimes. After a cylinder misfires it sometimes stops using that cylinder until you restart. The dealership says this is harmless on the engine but it can be annoying to only have 1 cylinder working until you pull over & restart the engine. That said, I've only had to pull over & restart one time. The check engine light is just always on though, which is silly since if anything genuinely bad happens I won't be alerted by the check engine light.

I’ve had my Chief do this whenever I missed a shift. The check engine light usually goes away on its own after you start and stop the bike a few times as long as the issue isn’t still there

Ok cheers, interesting. I hadn't missed a shift personally, I was just cruising along at 80 kph (50 mph) in 5th gear. Very relaxed motoring. I'll keep an eye out to see if the light goes off.

No, hottest day of the year so far here in the UK 25C. I had just set off for a ride and after 5 minutes suddenly one cylinder started misfiring and the engine warning light came on. Like you I pulled over and switched the engine off for 5 minutes. When I started her up again the engine warning light stayed on. I switched her off again and fiddled with the spark plug leads. After another 5 minutes she started up fine with no warning light this time. I was close to home, so I rode home and had a cup of tea. When I started her up again half an hour later she was fine and dandy for the rest of the day. I'll let the dealer know when I take it in for a service next month.
